We are Born to Cook Barcelona, a culinary space focused on new trends in gastronomy, located in a privileged heritage site, at the heart of “El Born” in Barcelona. Our premises date back to the 15th century and, according to historical records, the building was the domicile of Christopher Columbus’ family in Barcelona. It’s stoned walls and original arches create an exceptional atmosphere, unique in the city of Barcelona.

This was our family’s favorite Barcelona activity. The tours of the Bouqueria and Santa Catarina markets were fun and informative, and we went back to both later in the trip as informed consumers. The class kitchen and dining areas were beautiful, clean and functional. After an olive, wine and vinegar tasting our class of 9 got to work on prep. Our group varied in experience and ability but everyone was made to feel comfortable and involved. Throughout the class, wine and non-alcoholic drinks were available. Our two 20’s aged kids especially appreciated that. The lunch dishes were all delicious, and portions were generous. This was restaurant quality food and when you factor that in, along with the time commitment and great entertainment by our chef Otger this class is a great value!
Otgir was amazing!
Awesome experience. Otger met us and took us on a private tour of 2 different local markets. One was known by tourists so he made us aware of the prices they were charging and the other was the locals market where prices were much cheaper and some better quality. We got to sample some fresh local produce, olives and olive oil. We stopped at one of the local food stops in the market where Otger ordered a couple local dishes, beer, and vermouth for us to try and treated us. After that, we headed to the amazing location of the cooking class where he explained in detail what we were doing and why. He treated us unlimited wine and champagne all while entertaining us with his great stories and amazing personality. He even went out of his way to drive us back to the port where our cruise ship was. I would highly recommend this class to anyone and everyone!
I love how the cooking class taught me a lot. It gives me opportunity to appreciate the life giving ingredients the organic, fresh and healthy. The chef was totally an expert! They were so friendly and well experienced in the kitchen. I’m not a cook so the basic instructions really helped me. I made my own paella out from scratch and the combinations of ingredients were new to me yet I was surprised that I cooked a delicious and an interesting mix of flavors kind of meal! Thank you for the cooking experience! Would love to visit again soon!
This was a wonderful class and the highlight of our trip to Barcelona. Ari, our chef/teacher, is a great guy and wonderful chef. New insights into Spanish and Catalan cuisine. Loved it and definitely recommend.
Alex, the lead chef shared tons of information about traditional Catalon cooking, how to select the best ingredients from the market, and cooking tips. He and the assistant chef, Ari, were fun and friendly and kept things moving right along. The market tours were fantastic and the kitchen is located in a beautiful, centuries-old building that was fascinating in and of itself! My 10-year old daughter and I really enjoyed this experience and would do it again.
Everything was delicious and so beautiful!!
Fabulous experience! The chef, “Woody”, is knowledgeable, talented, and unpretentious. We had a great time in the market sampling things and buying some ingredients for our meal. Everyone had ample opportunity for hands on prep and participation as desired. The final meal was so delicious, and the best paella we’ve ever had. A very fun and worthwhile experience. Wouldn’t change a thing.
The cooking school is located in a small lane in the beautiful neighbourhood of El Born. We were greeted with a welcome drink. Once we gathered the group together, we walked to the market. Santa Caterina market is where the locals buy their groceries! It's a very nice and clean market, much less crowded than Boqueria. We tasted some different tomatoes, cheese, ham and more. Our chef and guide knows the market and the people well and stopped here and there to tell us a bit about the ingredients. Back a the cooking school we did an olive oil tasting and then we started cooking. Our 5 course meal was really delicious! The cooking school is absolutely beautiful and the whole vibe is very charming. We had a great group and enjoyed a great cooking experience. Oh and you can help yourself at the bar while cooking - the wines were great ;) Thanks again to the team! Definitely recommend this class!
