Authentic Cooking Class with Local Vietnamese Family in Rural Countryside

Mo is a lovely person and very professional. She took us to the market to buy fresh products for the class and meal. She explained way beyond our purchases as to food products that are not familiar to us and how to recognize freshness. She also told us much about life in Vietnam. We went by boat to her home on the island. Her hospitality was exceptional and so was the class! We enjoyed preparing and eating the different dishes and sauces which we prepared as well. Every dish had special flavors and the grilled fish was the best we'd eaten in our lives!!!! We requested a gluten free menu and Mo was knowledgable and we never felt any difficulty with the limitations. The meal and drinks were in such generous amounts! I definitely recommend the class with Mo and can't wait to come back!

This cooking adventure is a wonderful way to spend half a day in Hoi An. We started by meeting Mo and touring the food market. Mo talked us through all the ingredients we would be cooking with, pausing to pay the market vendors or allow us to smell and taste the fresh herbs and fruits. It was so interesting to see all the stalls and learn about Vietnamese culture and was a great start. We then took a boat over to Mo's house on a very serene island - it was very relaxing. I would recommend bringing water for the journey/market tour. We then were given an ice cold glass of fresh 0juice which was delicious and it was topped up throughout the day. We then spend time preparing the different courses, we rolled our own spring rolls, watched Mo cook fresh fish and made our own pancakes. The food was authentic, fresh and the whole experience was really memorable. The house was clean and spacious and provided a cool area for us to prepare the food and eat. We each had our own stove and Mo's family cleaned up around us so it was a relaxing experience with very tasty food. Mo was an extremely welcoming host, a brilliant chef and a genuinely lovely person. We felt honoured to have spent the day at her home and it was the highlight of our time in Vietnam. When we finished the course we took the boat back into Hoi An with full stomachs and a smile on our faces. Thank you, Mo, for an amazing experience and good luck for the future!

Mo is an incredible host, she is very knowledgeable about the local markets and foods. We had so much fun learning how to cook local dishes, they were delicious and I can't wait to try making them when I get home.

This is a must do when visiting Hoi An! Mo was incredible, expertly teaching and helping us through 4 delicious traditional Vietnamese dishes. Her class has been easily the highlight of our time in Vietnam and I couldn’t recommend this more for people to do. For the activities you do, the food you eat and a full day of wonderful hospitality it is worth every penny (and more!). Her expertise and skill is undeniable, leading to the perfect day for us which I’m sure we’ll remember for life. We couldn’t believe the amount of time we spent cooking, the fascinating tour of the local market that offered an amazing insight into true Vietnam life and culture, as well as the end result of the food we cooked ourselves! We were so lucky! We had Mo just for ourselves! My boyfriend and I just had the most exclusive experience in Mo’s cooking class and because of that we can assure that Mo is really caring, a super friendly person and an amazing chef! We started the experience at Hoi An’s market in the ancient town. Superb! Mo explained every ingredient, pointed at the freshiest ones and how to choose them while making sure we memorise all the names. After a few stands it was obvious that everyone in the market knew her! The market itself is a must see/do! After we had our baskets full of the best items of the market, Mo led us to a boat to Mo village. It was a pleasant journey on the river! We got off the boat on a small pier right in front of this little cute place, Mo’s house! We were presented with a fresh passion fruit juice at the arrival and the cup was never empty, Mo staff assured that we were high on sugar and conviniently hydrated! Loved it! During the entire cooking class Mo explained every little thing about the ingredients used in Vietnam, the techniques, the process to have the best dishes, encourage us to do as much things as we could and answer all of our questions! We had so much fun trying to cook with chopsticks!! I’m vegetarian but my boyfriend isn’t. That wasn’t a problem at all, Mo just adapted the ingredientes and I had the most delicious meal in Vietnam. We had the freshest Vietnamese salad rolls with peanut sauce, crispy Banh Xeo, soooo delicious Pho and southern-style vermicelli with beef and mine with fresh tofu. We were so full at the end that we almost cannot eat the best mango, rambutan and mangosteen!! But we ate everything and glad we did, our taste buds were throwing a party the entire time!

We got picked up on time from our hostel by Mo's husband and were dropped off at the market to meet Mo and two other couples. Mo gave everybody a basket and then our market tour began. In the beginning I thought it'd be just a stroll that's it but it turned out to be the best market visit I've ever had. We stopped at so many little stands and Mo told us about the various fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, spices, herbs, etc. Once all our baskets were full, we all got on a boat and went to Mo's house which is lovely tranquil place. The cooking class was outstanding. Hopefully the dishes turn out just as good when I make them myself:)

We really enjoyed our cooking class with Mo. Mo answered all of our questions as we made our way through the market - she was also very good at explaining how the market operates and the difference in prices. The cooking class was very hands on and you were put out of your comfort zone when making the dishes - but Mo was always there to guide or steer you in the right direction if you were not getting it! Lovely to be outside of Hoi An too in Mo’s family home, it really was an authentic cooking experience. I would highly recommend this class!

We had a good time and enjoyed ourselves. We will try-out the menu at home.

We had a fantastic day together with Mo. she is a wonderful person that in a very good way explained about how to make Vietnam food and about the ingredients. We started shopping at the market took a boat ride to the island where Mo live together with her family. We were cooking our own food in Mo’ s kitchen. Everything was so nice. I can recommend Mo’scooking class to everyone who wants a day to remember.

“It’s very good!” My 9-year-old daughter kept saying it during the whole class. We loved everything! Even though most part of the market was closed due to the holidays, we had a chance to buy some herbs with Mo. Her explanation was very interesting and helpful. The boat ride to Mo’s kitchen was nice, and the welcome drink was delicious. Every step if of making dishes was well organized and explained. Our family and a couple from the States could enjoy our own relaxing class with no hurry. The food was GREAT! The Bahn Xeo and the pho especially were the best I have ever had. Loved Mo’s warm hospitality, passion for Vietnamese food and professional yet kind explanation. My daughter made her dishes by herself thanks to Mo. Will definitely revisit her kitchen when we come to Hoi An. Thank you for the amazing experience, Mo. Happy and prosperous new year to you and your family!

We were extremely pleased with our cooking class we had with Mo. She is both extremely knowledgeable, friendly and a master chef. Our timing was a little off because of the tet celebrations but Mo still went above and beyond to give us the full experience, she even took us to one of the only open stalls in the market to show us several herbs we would later use in the food. Coming from someone who is fascinated by both food and culture I highly recommend this experience. Mo does a great job of teaching about the food and culture surrounding the Hoi An area, especially if you start asking questions. It is run out of her home in a small village that takes a boat ride to get there which only adds to its authenticity. You will leave the class with a better understanding and appreciation for the food and culture of Vietnam.

We are super happy we chose this class. In fact, it's more than a class. You start by walking around the market, where Mo shares talks about ingredients and shares some shopping tips. Then after a 20 minutes boat ride you get to Mo's village, which is an experience on its own. It was refreshing not to see any scooters for a couple of hours and Mo's family is lovely. The class itself was well organised, food was fresh and we got a lot of time for ourselves, we didn't feel rushed at all. The whole thing was friendly and laid back, we can only recommend this experience.

Looking for an opportunity to get to know Vietnamese cuisine better then you cannot find a better class than this one. Great explanations and hands on experience in a lovely location a short 20 min boat ride from Hoi An

Alles war einfach wunderbar und bestens organisiert. Die Abholung am Hotel, der Marktbesuch mit unglaublich vielen Erklärungen zu den Lebensmitteln, die anschließende Bootsfahrt zu Mo‘s Cooking Unterkunft. Jeder bekam einen eigenen „Arbeitsplatz“ und man bereitete seine Speisen selber zu, nachdem man dies von Mo gezeigt bekam. Dies haben wir besonders geschätzt. Zudem ist Mo eine beeindruckende und herzliche Gastgeberin. Sollte es uns mal wieder nach Hoi An verschlagen, werden wir sicher wieder bei Mo kochen, da uns hier neben der Zubereitung auch das Verständnis für die vietnamesische Küche näher gebracht wurde. Auch ein nachfolgender Marktbesuch wird aufgewertet, da man die Lebensmittel mit viel mehr Wissen betrachtet und bewertet. Danke Mo für diesen tollen Tag !!

what a beautiful day learning about cooking but much more. The day was perfect. Mo met us on time and then we went to buy our freah meat,fish,vegetables,fruit and herbs. Her English was very good. She explained many different aspects of the market. When then proceeded to the peer where a boat took her to her island a short 10 minutes away. The set up was first class. Her teachings were precise and the food was succulent.

An authentic cooking class with Mo & her mum started with a visit to the market to buy fresh ingredients & learn about different foods.A boatride took us to her home by the river where we cooked delicious meals.Mo was patient & helpful .We had a wonderful day & would recommend to all. We had a great day with Mo and her family. The cooking class takes place in a peaceful and quiet village close to Hoi An. Pick up from our hotel was organised! During our tour on the local market we learned a lot about the different ingredients and bought everything for our dishes! Mo is a very experienced chef and showed us every step. Afterwards we prepared our own dishes. We chose Menu 1 and it was very delicious! We chose this class because the focus was on cooking, which was great! Would definitely recommend the cooking class, if you are searching a personal experience in a small group and want to support a local family! Thanks Mo!
