Start off with a TukTuk ride to visit the nearby local market to get some fresh ingredients. Then cook at your own station and learn how to make Thai food under the supervision of our charming local Thai chef.
What I liked: The details that Mae gave us about each ingredient and each dish. It's a good class for people who want to cook the dishes again once they get home. The school is near Khaosan road, the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. Perfect to walk and explore the area after your cooking class.
What to know: The school is hidden between two streets and can be hard to find, but ask a local and they will happily show you.
Good for: There are many details and secret techniques in Thai food, which can be the key to making a Thai dish successfully. The structure and focus of the class makes it good for those who want to come out with a good grasp of the cuisine.
Best way to get there: Go to Ratchathewi BTS station and the get on a motorbike or tuk tuk that should cost you 100 baht to Khaosan.

Mae and her assistant were nothing short of amazing! Traveling to the local market via TUK TUK with basket in hand we were able to learn more about the local culture and about foods we were completely unfamiliar with! The class was fun and our end result delicious!
Mae and her assistant were amazing in every way. Her English was perfect which was so great at the local market when she explained everything we were seeing. After walking the market and purchasing our ingredients we went back to the school and the class was detailed and such fun. Every student was responsible for creating their own menu and the payoff was a fabulous meal at the end! I highly recommend this!!
Everything was on point : from the welcoming drink to eating our self-prepared traditionnal Thai dishes. Our wonderful teacher took us through a local market, and then showed us how to make each dish from scratch (we made the curry paste ourselves). And the best part of it, of course, was that you get to eat what you made. I would definitely recommend going to Maliwan Thai Cooking Class when you're in Bangkok.
Including the Maliwan Cooking School in our schedule was one of the wisest decisions we have made on our travels. The tut tut ride to the market, walk through the market with Mae explaining what the different items were, and the culminating activity of preparing Thai dishes and eating what we prepared provided a unique experience into the culture of the country.
We consider the morning spent at the alias Cooking School the highlight of our week in Bangkok. The tut tuk ride to the local market, Mai's explanation of what flavors the different vegetables and spices would provide,, and the actual preparation of classic Thai dishes all led up to the climax of eating the delicious food that we had prepared ourselves. The experience provided a genuine taste of Thailand!
We really enjoyed Maliwan cooking school. Mae explained cooking instructions very well ...even my Partner who doesn't cook very often was able to follow. Highlight was going to the Market selecting fresh product and of course eating our finished dishes. Yum!
Taking a cooking class while in Thailand is part of the experience! Cookly does a wonderful job. Take a friend and you will have great fun!
