Arrive at Masala Medley and check in. Meet your instructor and get settled at your cooking station.

Introduction to Indian Cooking & Spices

Learn about the essential spices used in Indian cuisine, their roles, how they’re layered, and a few substitution tips. We’ll also walk through today’s menu.

Prep & Cook: Pakora (Appetizer)

Start with a comforting appetizer — pakoras made with spiced gram flour batter and fried to crispy perfection.

Cook: Chicken Curry + Rice, Papadum & Cucumber Pachdi

Make: Kesari (Dessert)

Return to your station to make a sweet semolina dessert called Kesari, flavored with ghee, cardamom, and cashew nuts.

We had a cooking class with Renee at Masala Medley and it was absolutely brilliant. We are currently travelling Asia and we've done a cooking class in every country we have been too, and this one is by far the best even though it's brand new. The class itself is in a freshly renovated property that has a large seating area where you sit down, learn about all the spices, why and how to cut and mix the ingredients. You then move to the cooking area that's spacious and great decor. Once you've cooked your dishes you head to another cozy and warm dining area to enjoy your food. The whole place is very rustic, warm, stylish, inviting and very clean. The ingredient pots, entire decor gives the whole place an authentic family feel to the place. Renee is a fantastic teacher and her Mum is great too. They were very informative about Indian spices and ingredients and how to use them, the recipes are family recipes which adds a great personal touch. If you are in Kuala Lumpur and looking for a cooking class we couldn't recommend it higher.
