About

Rita's Gourmet Cooking Classes are set up in Vasco da Gama, around the Mormogau area, in a garden gazebo amidst spice and herb plants and surrounded by coconut trees. Rita Shinde, the versatile home grown Chef has mastery over her subject and is an excellent communicator. She makes the guests comfortable with step by step introduction to different spices, vegetables, ingredients that go in making various masalas and curry pastes which are used to prepare the aromatic and flavorful dishes.

The market tour showcases the local farmer's produce as Rita takes you through the the vibrant and vivacious display of fresh and colorful vegetables, fresh herbs and seafood market explaining and picking up the ingredients. Both, vegetarian and non-vegetarian as well as gluten free need not worry as all dishes can be learnt and cooked.

Finally, Rita shares her recipes and the pictures of the class with the travelers over email. An Apron is part of the takeaway. So come over and let us Celebrate the Joy of Cooking.

Schedule

9:30 am: Arrival at Rita's Gourmet. Welcome with local breakfast, snacks, and savories. Preparation of Masala Chai
10:30 am: Local Farmer's Market tour. This tour is conducted only if we have four or more guests)
11:30 am : Brief introduction to different spices and ingredients
11:45 am: Demonstration and participation in a cooking class in any five Indian/Goan dishes
1:45 pm: Meal
2:30 pm: Departure

"Fantastic experience!"

Rita was so knowledgeable and lovely. The food we made was incredible! Genuinely couldn't have had a better day.

"Fantastic cooking class & market tour"

We loved our class with Rita. Started with a delicious breakfast and market tour. Back in the kitchen, Rita ran us through the spices many of which we had seen at the market. We cooked a crazy amount of food (a special vegetarian menu of samosas, Dahl, alloo gobi, paneer butter masala, flat bread and rice pudding). We were assisted not just by Rita but by her team of helpers who were great to learn from. Afterwards we had a delicious feast. There were tons of leftovers which Rita bundled up and sent us home with. Overall highly recommendable. We also got copies of the recipes and an apron to keep.

"Fantastic Indian Breads Workshop"

My 15 year old daughter and I had a wonderful time at Rita's Indian breads workshop. This was the only activity my daughter would agree to do in Goa as she just wanted to relax on this vacation. It was well worth it. My daughter knows how to make tortillas very well and wanted to learn how to make Indian breads. We were the only two in the workshop and it was quite intense -- lots of hands on experience and opportunity to test your skills. We truly enjoyed it. We can't wait to practice our skills this Sunday.

My Wife and I went for the 3 hrs class - cooking a total of 5 dishes! Everything was sooo tasty and Rita was an awesome teacher! Would highly recommend to anyone who has a passion for cooking.

"Brilliant cooking class experience"

We booked this class to do something different. We love the Indian food and spices. Rita was so knowledgeable and lovely. The food we made was incredible! We stayed in Goa only for one day during a cruise and Rita organised everything from the pickup at the port and return just in time. It was a highlight of the cruise and we hope we can buy all the spices at home to cook all the delicious recipes we got from her.
