Our course is started with morning Payangan market to take advantages of cooler outdoor temperature for shopping, preparing and cooking. In Bali Markets are mostly opened early in the morning as perishable foods are at their peak. The traditional market is a great place to introduce students to Balinese culture and lifestyle. Your guide will explain about Balinese taste and customs, local meat, fish and other products, finding ingredients and unique way of bargaining in Balinese-style. Touring a traditional outdoor market provides experience how Balinese people spend their time before Cooking's. These processes are as important as those in the kitchen.
Arrived at the Balinese compound house you are welcomed with local coffee or tea by the culinary team of our cooking class.
Students are taught to process the food with modern traditional utensils and techniques. Paste and sauce preparations is one of the most interesting and important aspects of Balinese cooking, with two types of way bumbu bali preparations, chopped on wooden chopping block and ground in a stone mortar before being cooked in a variety of ways of Balinese dish. All prep work and cooking are HANDS-ON experiences, performed almost entirely by our participants.

It was one of the best parts of my trip to Bali. I learned about so many different fruits and vegetables that I had never heard of and cooked with them as well. I learned so much about Balinese cuisine and culture that I am taking a second class before I leave Bali. An experience not to be missed
A wonderful experience that started with being picked up and taken through and enjoyable market tour that was very interesting. This was followed by being warmly welcomed in to Nyoman's home where we learned about family life in Bali, which was truly fascinating. Following this was the cooking, which was well-organised with clear demonstrations, as well as being a lot of fun. Informative conversations continued while eating the delicious food we cooked, and return transport to accommodation - a service not offered by many cooking experiences - conveniently ended an experience I thoroughly recommend to anyone. This was such an awesome experience and more than I expected. Chef Nyoman and company were super accommodating and informative. I learned so much about the Balinese culture and food. I am so happy I found them to make my Bali trip even more memorable
So amazing to learn about Balinese culture, family dynamics, local market shopping, local delicacies and simplified way to cook Balinese cuisine. We ate what we made and so delicious. An excellent cooking class and Chef Nyoman was very informative and an amazing teacher.
The teacher was so informative and we got so much more than a cooking lesson. I’ve been to Bali many times but have never learnt so much about the Bali way of life. He welcomed us into his home and we really had a wonderful experience. I brought my 8 year old son who loved it and the teacher was very kind and took the time to teach my son.
Very happy I took this class. The instructor and his cousin were excellent. Everything was well explained and every step of the recipe was hands on. Very educational tour of the market and the family compound. Nyoman is well travelled and can explain alternate ingredients to find where you live.
Loved every moment of the class
The cooking class not just a wounderful food experienece but also gave great insights into the local and family life of Balinese people. Thanks for the wonderful time!
This was an amazing experience and we can't recommend it enough. The tour of the market was really interesting and much better than others we have done in Thailand. When we arrived at the family compound we were shown around and introduced to some of the family. We got to sample some of the family's coffee and homemade Balinese cakes. The cooking was great, we each had our own station and made every dish before sitting down to a delicious lunch. This is so much more than just a cooking class, it's an insight into the life of a local Balinese family.
It was just wonderful - we had a really good & funny time during the class. And the food was amazing! This is a MUST DO when you're visiting Bali. Thanks to the KDongding Crew and the whole family, they are all so friendly.
