We opened our first Japanese cooking school in Kyoto on April 2014 and since then we welcome many people from around the world every day in our Tokyo and Kyoto studios.
If you are looking for an authentic experience in which you can learn how to cook Japanese cuisine from our local instructors, please come and experience our class. Our Japanese cooking courses and cooking lessons are all delivered by our local experts who all speak English and you also get to eat all the dishes you prepared at the end of the class.
Enjoy our cooking class for a special memory in Japan and looking forward to seeing you soon!
Amy and Miki were wonderful hosts and teachers. We thoroughly enjoyed the class and would definitely recommend it to others.
Mami and Amy were lovely and very informative. Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed the cooking class and thought it was excellent value for money with the effort and high-quality ingredients they provided, would highly recommend!
My partner and I throughly enjoyed the 3 hour cooking class in Kyoto. Covering a full 7 course meal from appetizers, main courses and desserts. Learning along the way as to why certain ingredients are prepared the way they are to achieve a beautiful presentation and memorable flavor combinations. As someone who has always been a fan of Japanese cuisine, I can now say I feel confident diving further in.
It was a highlight of my trip! The instructor was incredibly knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine and shared fascinating insights into the history and techniques behind ramen and gyoza making. The hands-on experience of kneading ramen dough and folding gyoza wrappers was so much fun, and the final dishes were absolutely delicious.
A great class which made a variety of bento delights. We started with making the miso soup from scratch and then greens, sushi, teriyaki and tempura. A small class of 3. Teacher was excellent and explained everything perfectly. Loved it.
It was an absolute delight! The chef's passion for Japanese cooking shone through as they guided us through the process of making authentic ramen and gyoza. From mixing the ramen dough to mastering the art of gyoza folding, every step was engaging and informative. The best part was sitting down to enjoy a steaming bowl of ramen and a plate of crispy gyoza – a true taste of Osaka's culinary scene.
Food was superb. Instructors were knowledgeable, generous, and hilarious. So informative and so fun!!
Recommend.
Great set-up, highly recommended.
This was one of the best cooking classes we have ever taken. There were 7 of us in total and each couple or individual had their own cooking station. We prepared most of the food on our own, although a few things were prepped for us to save time. Everything was explained clearly in perfect English and the kitchen area was immaculate and kept that way throughout the class. We cooked 6 different dishes in two shifts, enjoying one meal of our own making at the halfway point, and then cooking the three remaining dishes. The Fried chicken with salted plum and shiso leaf, and the pumpkin soup with miso and soy milk were among the highlights. The dessert, a matcha parfait sealed the deal! The staff were kind, helpful, funny and great hosts. We highly recommend this for cooks and eaters alike!
Everything was perfect. The chefs were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The recipes and techniques were easy to learn and everything tasted incredible. We loved this class and would like to do it again next time we come to Japan. We ate food all through the class instead of waiting till the end and definitely did not leave hungry!
Good class, we were almost always doing things and it was great to make a selection of dishes.
My wife and I joined this izakaya cooking class. They showed us 6 dishes, which were a great introduction to some basic Japanese ingredients, and flavors - including a basic dashi and a couple of sauces. They explained in good detail, so you could recreate it at home if you wanted, and sent you home with recipes. It was fun, informative, and delicious all at once.
Even though the length of the course is listed at 3 hours, the time flew by so fast. Great staff/instructors were very helpful the whole way through, even giving some history behind the lessons/food as the class went on. It was much more in-depth than I originally thought, and that's not a bad thing. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, it was fun to get lost and walk around before the class got started. Highly recommended if you can fit this into your schedule when in Tokyo.
The class was enjoyable and the tutors were clear, helpful, and nice. Recipes were easy to follow.
Our family of 5 joined the Izakaya Class of Cooking Sun. Really well organized, insightful and delicious course helt by three very friendly and supportive local chefs who all speak English very well. I highly recommend this course
Kindly teachers!!!
Miki and her other assistants were great. I like the small group class. Very individualized and we make 7 varieties of sushi, Miso soup and sake tasting. I would definitely recommend this class to all of my friends.
Het was een super leuke kookcursus. Je leert verschillende soorten Sushi maken en dat maakt het erg leuk. Ze leggen alles goed uit en sommige onderdelen worden gezamenlijk gedaan. De klas is klein en dat is ook erg fijn!
Really enjoyed the class yesterday afternoon. It was great to learn more about the history of Japanese cooking and culture. The instructors had perfect English and were really friendly and helpful. I was impressed at the amount of sushi we were able to prepare in the time. I would definitely recommend this class, thank you cooking sun! 🍱 🍣
It was very enjoyable, we learned things we didn't know, the staff was very helpful and professional, answered every question with a smile and at the end it was also very tasty 😋
We loved our cooking class, the host was so lovely and kind! We learnt heaps and had fun, the food was super yum! Would recommend this to anyone
Yumi was delightful and worked us through the different steps of making dashi, preparing the rice and making nigiri and maki. It was a perfect afternoon for my husband and I and our two kids. We can’t wait to try it at home.
This class should be mandatory for every visitor in Japan! So much fun, so much pleasure to talk with someone from japan who will tell you so many things you would have never guessed about the culture, the people, and anything you are curious about. Of course the cooking part was also great, but the whole experience is much more than that. Thank you so much for the great experience!
Our teacher, Chikako, was fantastic! Explaining us the different techniques for sushi-making but also the "stories" behind the ingredients. We didn’t see the 3 hours pass by, spending time making our sushis and eating them :)
My father and I thoroughly enjoyed this class! The relaxed atmosphere and hot tea whilst being gently guided through creating interesting dishes was such a lovely way to spend an afternoon. The dishes were varied, fun to create & absolutely delicious! Not only did we learn new culinary skills, but history and invaluable local knowledge on food, art, culture & sights to see. I would recommend any traveller to Kyoto to take part to enhance their stay in this beautiful part of the world!!
I Had a wonderful time & learnt so much. Beautiful welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend &.looking forward to doing another class when we are back next year. Jan New Zesland
Great course. Hands on, we cooked everything on the menu. Will do another one when we next go to Tokyo. Highly recommended
The presenters were really excellent and we learnt a lot about Japanese food as we went. The food we prepared was so good and of course we got to eat it! This was the best value for the money we paid in terms of enjoyment, instruction and in the eating. Three members of my family attended and we all had such a positive and pleasant experience. Amazing value and I would highly recommend this class to anyone.
Our group of 9 was quite international and made for great interaction. Our English speaking passionate cooking instructors were lovely, patient and informative. The hands on experience was amazing, using traditional cooking utensils and ingredients and the food we made was absolutely delicious and extremely filling! Thoroughly enjoyable and really great value for money. Would highly recommend anyone to do this.
We had a great time with this class! We learned some helpful, basic techniques that we can use at home. It felt like much less like pub cooking than home cooking, which was a pleasant surprise. We look forward to trying the shared recipes at home. The host was great conversation with very little language barrier. We would definitely recommend this class.
This class with Cooking Sun was just awesome! We went during the Rugby World Cup, so it was a pretty diverse group (not sure if it's always that way). My girlfriend and I were with 2 couples from England and a couple from Italy.. so it was a fun experience for all of us. The 2 ladies that ran the class were great. They speak English well and are really informative with everything you're doing. We made dashi and 7 courses for the Summer Izakaya menu- they give you a packet with the recipes for everything and you can take it with you. This class was BEYOND worth it. Every other class I saw elsewhere seemed too expensive for too simple of a cooking lesson. We cooked 3 courses to start and ate those as a sort of appetizer. We then cooked the other 3 and enjoyed them with sake (additional 500 yen per person) as a whole class. Dessert at the end! I would recommend this to anybody going to Kyoto!
A great, hands on class with a focus on technique. Great teachers who paced the class through a number of dishes. All around excellent experience.
I took this class with my 3 children ranging from 9 to 12 who are all avid little chefs. We all loved the experience and the fantastic teachers. The class was small and each pair had their own cooker so rather than just watching someone cook you actually cook your own meal which is a great chance to practice. The teachers were so knowledgeable and great with the kids. This is definitely a child friendly class if your children enjoy cooking and learning new techniques. The food was so delicious as we gathered together to enjoy what we had created. All up I highly recommend this class .
Overall the class was fantastic. The market tour was a real highlight. Being able to wander around the market with a guide who could answer all our questions and explain what we were seeing was really good. The positive relationship the guides had with many of the stall holders was impressive. The cooking class was great fun. The instructions were clear, easy to follow and had everyone involved very quickly. A great way to get some insights into Japanese and particularly Kyoto lifestyle and culture. All up, highly recommended.
Yumy was the best host we could ever had! She explained everything clearly and with passion, we had such a good time. She taught us how to make miso soup, different types of sushi and its toppings. The place was immaculate clean and it felt very homey. We wouls go back again without a doubt and the sushi was very yummy, we loved it!
Incredible cooking course, great instructors, great facilities, lots learnt and incredible value for money
I think that putting 3 people together is too many for one cooker. One person gets excluded from the preparation. Rather split 2/1
The English of the teacher is very goodcand she is very nice. Too bad we couldn't take the leftovers home.
My husband and I wanted to check out a cooking class while we were in Japan. We chose the bento box cooking class because you could learn how to make a few Japanese staples. The chefs were highly informative, lighthearted and encouraging. We were looking for a very hands on experience. We shared a station which included a portable stove top burner and created the bento box by doubling our ingredients between us. In terms of the class being hands on I would say it’s about a 4/5 as some of the ingredients for the sushi roll was batched, pre-cut and produced for us likely to save on time. The class is 3 hours. This makes you appreciate the effort it takes to make Japanese food. But we had an enjoyable experience and got to learn how to make the tamago egg, miso soup, tempura vegetables/shrimp and teriyaki chicken from scratch. Overall, it was a great learning experience and the informative chefs helped enrich us with knowledge and got us involved more with the cooking culture. Food tasted great! Thank you chefs xo
The instructors were really good about explaining that all the ingredients were and how we were going to use them. They were also really good about helping all of us prepare the food the right way. We did not particularly like the taste of the food but that is all a personal opinion - some in the class did. The only suggestion would be to allow us to eat as we prepared the food instead of waiting until the very end to eat. Some of the food would have been better if it were hot
Yumi san was a delight as our teacher to learn so much about sushi. Teacher kitchen and equipment is immaculate, 100% interactive, its a great 2 hours of the best into to sushi, hand roll, nigiri, inari zushi, sushi rice, egg omlette. Much fun for all visitors to Tokyo.
Really fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Great hosts and the food turned out really well
We really loved the experience. It was well explained, fun, relaxing, extremely well organized and really tasty!
Instructors were very helpful and made the class fun. Highly recommend this experience for anyone visiting Tokyo.
I had a very nice time. The cooker/teacher is super interesting and explain a lot of things, from exemple there the food is from, some expression... The food we eat and cook was very delicious, very nice menu. The menu is also dépends of the season so that good opportunity to come back and try a new class :)
Our teacher was positive and helpful- she was happy to chat with us all about the food and culture. Her cooking was delicious and we got to make our own bento boxes and eat it! It was a definite highlight and I would recommend this course and Cooking Sun school to anyone.
The food was authentic and delicious and will be easy to cook back in my home country. Highly recommend.
Amazing experience that I will never forget! Our hosts were so kind and accommodating, and eating what we cooked at the end was a great experience to share culture with both the instructors and other students. I really enjoyed this, especially as a solo traveler in Japan for the first time!
Wilde variety of recipes, very helpful teachers
The class was great! The whole family enjoyed it! The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time!
Such a great class. Good tuition, good choice of dishes and lots of fun :)
I learned much more than I thought I would learn
My husband, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class at Cooking Sun Tokyo. Maiko and Miki were very organized, knowledgeable and patient, the ingredients were fresh and the dishes we prepared were delicious. Definitely a highlight of our time in Tokyo.
It was an amazing experience, we learnt a lot and the chef was super nice and explained everything very well. It's a really nice way to know more about Tokyo and Japanese culture while cooking delicious sushi and miso soup.
We enjoyed the class very much, it was a really good choice! Our teacher was super nice, friendly, she told us a lot of additional facts about the Japanese cuisine. The meals were varied and delicious.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the traditional izakaya cooking class. The instructions were easy to follow and our instructors were extremely helpful and informative. They provided additional background on a few of the local ingredients used in the dishes and educated the class on the traditions of Japanese cooking. We appreciated that the class was split into two ‘cooking then eating’ sessions, which provided a nice opportunity to enjoy some of the dishes as we prepared them, as opposed to waiting until the end to eat everything. The sake provided at the end (for a small additional charge) was a great added bonus while enjoying the dishes we had prepared. Highly recommend this class if you’re looking for an opportunity to cook traditional Japanese cuisine!
Fantastic experience with amazing hosts. Highly recommended!
Much better than expected. Small class with knowledgeable staff and a great variety of dishes.
We really enjoyed preparing the Bento box meal. We will try it at home as well.
The two teachers not only turned out to be very knowledgeable but also very sociable. They started the group conversation while explaining and us coming and kept that going. Before we knew it the 3 hours were gone and we could enjoy our lovely bento boxes. My wife was the one that wanted to go but I'm glad she made me come along.
Very informative, hands on and entertaining
Amazing that each of us could prepare such a meal. Only possible with the shopping and prep by the cooking school team. 7 happy people had a delicious lunch
Have fun learning 8 mini Japanese dishes and being introduced to the Japanese culture. There were 3 Teachers facilitating the class and they were patient and attentive to the students. They speak good english and I don’t have problem understanding the instructions. However the Teachers could demonstrate more instead of verbalising the preparation of some dishes. Cooking stations were shared and I need to share with two other participants on one cooking station. The Teachers were kind enough to provide support with my clarification even when the lesson was over. Greatly appreciated!
I liked that recipes shared were good for one, so that i just multiply ingredients, depending on the number of persons I’m cooking for.
Delightful teachers and thorough explanations on the essence of ‘Japanese Pub food.’
I liked the vegetarian & vegan options. The instructors spoke English well in a country (Japan) where most people do not (even within the hospitality sector). Our class was the first day of the new Spring menu, so I completely understand that they needed to work out the kinks regarding dishes/menu.
We thoroughly enjoyed the market trip, learning so much about the different spices and foods. Our instructors were A+. They were clear with their instructions and patient with everyone. It was a memorable experience! Thanks from your Canadian friends.
This sushi making class was great! It was a small group with only 8 participants, which gave the class a real homelike feeling and made sure you had enough personal guidance. The teachers we’re super skilled, very friendly and spoke English very well! We made a lot of different sushi types, including the California roll. We would highly recommend this class!
We enjoyed the class a lot. The staff spoke very good English and we all had a lot of fun preparing the various kinds of sushi and eating them. The class was in a small appartement, so a really great addition to the atmosphere. I can recommend it to anyone who loves sushi and wants to try making their own.
Well organised..amaxing teachers..
Hands on cooking experience for a number of different dishes which was the best part!
This class was everything I was personally hoping for. The instructor was very well versed in english, the location was a profesional one, meaning that this was nobody home but a kitchen studio with all the facilities that you would want and the menu was at the same time simple to repeat it at home but delicious and VERY japanese. It was an excellent experience.
I had a great learning experience at cooking sun studio in Tokyo. From making Dash to making all of the kaiseki dishes, we make get to make on our own. At the end of the session, we ate what we cooked, I must say it was so delicious! I can wait to cook the recipe at home. Lots of laughter and smiles with other guests - two fantastic couples from Hawai and Seoul. Thank you Maiko and Yuki sense!
Had a great time making our own bento box. Class size was perfect (5 people) to ensure that we could all follow along and receive assistance from the instructors. Food was delicious and fresh. Would recommend if you’re wanting to learn the basics of japanese cooking.
A little bit hard to find but the course is a great experience. Very familiar atmosphere. ありがとうございました
The teacher is very kind and friendly. We enjoyed so much in the class and learned a lot. Looking forward to next time~
I learned a lot from this cooking class, it’s good for beginners and even those somewhat knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine. I now know some great and easy recipes to make at home! The class is relaxed and has a fun atmosphere, and the teachers are helpful and kind. ありがとうございました!
We had lots of fun. Easy recipes that we can re-create at home. Everything was delicious. Suitable for all ages. Would highly recommend.
Definitely the highlight of our vacation! It was a great way to immerse ourselves with Japanese dining culture. My whole family enjoyed the experience. We learned cooking authentic Japanese foods that were usually served in restaurants. It was a hands on experience in a very traditional setting. The class was conducted in English and it was definitely a plus! We got to share some laughs, had some sake tasting and authentic Japanese green tea. And plus, we all got to wear their traditional Samue.
Personally, i love Japanese food and this cooking class did not disappoint. We had a traditional hands on cooking with a class discussion about Japan's history and food culture. Aya-san also shared with us Washoku and we created dishes from Japanese appetizers to desserts. We were a small group of 5 and we all had fun. Aya-san was full of sense of humor too. Overall we had a taste of Japanese culture and cuisine, experience firsthand japanese Washoku cooking and we shared our dishes with each other. I love this class. Ill come back again soon
Friendly hosts who guided us through the market then the cooking process. Lovely clean studio with full views across the rooftops of the Nishiki market. Sake tasting and great company topped off the experience. Highly recommended.
Teacher was very kind, and she provided a lot of great information not just about the food, but about the region itself. Food was great.
The tour in Nishiki market was interesting. Cooking was wonderful and the teacher was amazing. Thank you
I loved the way the team of the three cooking ladies explained and helped us. The bentobox was well composed, so we experienced a lot of different kind of cooking techniques. We also enjoyed the different kind of flavours and ingredients. Well done!
The teachers were very sweet and helpful. Ambiance, ingredients, organization.. everything was great!
Well planned and perfectly executed. Kanae is a charming, competent teacher and hostess.
Lot of fun and very educational. We are US citizens living in Japan. Really helps as we learn Japanese cooking techniques and ingredients. Great instructors!
We had such a good time at this class learning lots of new techniques and discovering new flavours.
Clean, quiet place. Small class. Clear & effective teaching. Nice & friendly teacher. Yummy product - sushi. Helpful & re-arranged schedule upon my own wrong booking venue.
We had a lovely time. Our teacher spoke excellent english and we cooked (and ate) some amazing food. This class really inspired us to cook authentic japanese food at home.
Really enjoyed learning about the flavours of Japan. Can’t wait to make my own twist of dishes in Australia
It was very fun and educating. The dishes were fun to make and the instructors were very helpful. We enjoyed it a lot.
Started with an interesting and helpful review of the market and the the meal preparation. The teacher went above and beyond just the meal items, giving us information about equipment and the individual subtle differences between the spices and the liquids.
Good experience. Easy to follow class - especially good for beginners. If you are intermediate you would maybe like something with a little more hands on. Meiko was a great instructor 🙌🏻🇯🇵
Class could not be better
It was really nice, all teachers speak perfectly understandable English, and were very kind. They made us discover their culture by cooking and telling a story about the things we used in our recipes. A-grade ingredients, easy techniques, and at the end wonderfull sushis. Quite a unique experience. Ps: as my wife was pregnant, they adjuted her ingredients so she can eat what she cooked, and she finally could eat sushis in Japan. Nice gesture.
The class was a small student to instructor ratio 7:2. Made lots of sushi that even eating all of it was a challenge. Miako and Chikako were great instructors, super friendly and helping us make the sushi rolls while still keeping it hands on and following old traditions. There were kids in the clas and they were able to make it enjoyable for all ages. Ingredients were fresh and tasty and class was easy to find by google. The menu was printed out for us to follow and we got to take it home for future sushi attempts. Highly recommend!
Good balance of cooking methods and allowed us time to interact with staff and students. Thanks for doing the dishes!
We enjoyed the cooking class! Learned a lot about sushi making and hope to do it back home! It was a fun experience that we would recommend to everyone!
It was a great cooking class. Me and my 16 yo son both loved it.
We have lived in Tokyo 2-1/2 years and have tried Japanese cooking. This class gave very useful information that we will use at home. Aya was a very good instructor, and her daughter, Megumi, also gave us interesting information. The class was really good to help us understand Japanese ingredients and cooking methods. We look forward to taking the class on kaiseki. Highly recommend the class and the instructor!
You’d be thinking heading to the market will be kinda boring. But turn out it’s not. The chef will guide you and tell you what’s actually the seasonal fruits and ingredients. Class is small and is very casual. You get to do and learn everything by yourself. I am indeed very happy with the class.
Was a great class and learnt heaps. Would have liked a beer or wine to have with our meal.
Class of 4 of us had a great experience cooking And enjoying our results.
We simply enjoyed the class! Clear directions and wonderful instructors. Bonus, food wonderful and we’ll be able to make at home. Highly recommend.
The course was a lot of fun, as the host was both sweet and experienced, and was fluent in English. The setting, ingredients, atmosphere were all excellent. We really enjoyed our course and learned A LOT.
My husband and I had a really special time at our cooking class. There was only the two of us so we were able to ask so many questions that you normally don't get a chance to ask in a larger group. We also had fun and cooked great food. In fact there is so much food we could not eat it all but every bite we ate was delicious.
Lovely teachers, excellent food, lovely experience
A wonderful afternoon experiencing authentic Japanese home style cooking. Explanations about the ingredients were good. Also a very nice atmosphere and great people.
Really enjoyed this class - as somebody who doesn’t typically cook Japanese food at home, it was very informative, relaxed and came away appreciating lots more about Japanese cooking. And I’m going to try use what I learned at home!
Our teacher, Aya was so lovely and welcoming. The class was in a residential area of Shinjuku, but easy to find with google maps. We shared the class with another couple, and it was nice interacting with them too. A very relaxed, fun atmosphere. Aya demonstrated the techniques to us and we were able to then try ourselves. We have a written recipe booklet for when we try to make the dishes at home. We made so much sushi, and it was great to try making the different types - maki, nigiri, California rolls. Aya mentioned a lot about Japanese culture when it comes to food choices and traditional recipes. So glad we were able to eat what we made at the end of the class, it was so lovely to enjoy what we had learnt. I would definitely recommend this class to others! And we look forward to making sushi when we get home!
We cooked a delicious japanese Kaiseki meal. I will try to cook it at Home. The explanations from Maiko werde very helpful. Thanks, Claudia.
השיעור היה מצוין, מייקו מקצועית ונהדרת למדתי הרבה מתכונים שאני יכולה לעשות בבית היה הסבר נהדר על המטבח היפני המסורתי וזה מקסים בעיני... ממליצה מאוד!
Sushi making class with Aya san on 2 March! The class was conducted in English and in a cosy open kitchen environment. Aya San is very friendly and knowledgeable. She would explain and demonstrate on what needs to be done step by step. Also she ensures I understand before moving on and would answer any questions that I have. Great experience indeed! Highly recommended if you would like to get your hands on making sushi! #cookingsuntokyo
Interesting and useful experience
The class was great, informative and fun! There was a lot of different foods in the Bento box! The instructors were super helpful and a pleasure to talk with.
Awesome!! Thanks Yuki-san and Chie-san for the wonderful cooking class, it was an elegant and delicious feast!!!
Aya S. was a wonderful teacher. Very patient when instructing. Very good communication skills. Preparation tables were very well set up and organized. Would recommend this class to anyone wanting to cook Japanese food.
The cuisine is simple but delicious. Definitely can do it again at home! Nice one
A lively, fun and very well documented class with an entertaining and interesting host. We felt very welcome and time went much too fast. Thank you !
Our instructors (Aya and Aya) were very informative with where the ingredients came from, the origin for each dish and of course showed us step by step the techniques to create these amazing dishes. Still am quite surprised I “made” such a delicious meal!!! Highly recommend if you love great food and enjoy all the history and background behind it!
the class took about 3- 3.5 hrs. the instructors were very nice and attentive and what i liked about the class was that it was very hands-on from biginning to end unlike some cooking classes i have had before. we took gaiseki and wakyu class and everything tasted delicious. they offer sake tasting for 500yen too. i would definately come back again.
Very nice class. The teacher was very nice and gave us good explanations. The recipe can be made at home. The only negative point for me : when you arrive at thé adress, there is nothing that show you where the class takes place. In fact, it is on thé second floor of a small building. Thank you for this class ! I recommend !
This is a must do for everyone to complete your Japan experience... course is very informative and lots of fun. Great teacher ( Aya ) makes it interesting and speaks good english...
My wife and myself enjoyed the Wagyu Beef & Kaiseki class from the moment we entered the room. What an experience, well prepared and super clean environment and ingredients. The composition of the Kaiseki, as well as all ingredients where delicious. And our teacher was super friendly, kind and answered all of our questions to our full confidence. We had a great time cooking, got a nice receipe for taking home with us, as well as a recommendation for shopping at the local department store. Any time we would book another cooking class, next time we come to Tokyo. Sebastian & Franziska
We were a group of 9 people and 3 hosts. They were very friendly and warm and the cooking was a lot of fun. All the many questions we had about ingredients etc. were patiently answered. Everything was well organised, the food was lovely and even my food allergies were accomodated for. I only wish there had been more interaction among the participants, which was not difficult because of the way we were placed. Besides that: Awesome!
The only thing I would add to the class would be some traditional japanese background music, other than that, 5 stars to the experience! :)
It was a delightful class. We practiced making 4 different dishes, the teacher was great and the participants fun to be with. I will definitely sign up again when I return to Kyoto
Very enjoyable and a lot of fun
A very relaxed atmosphere in enjoyable surroundings. My thanks go to the instructor, her assistant, and all who made this class enjoyable.
Aya was a great instructor and really made the course seem so simple for a nine course kaiseki meal! The space was really easy to use and the step by step instructions were so easy. The experience felt so personal. I really enjoyed it!
Such a wonderful experience! My teacher Hiromi was very thorough and taught me so many interesting things about Japanese culture. Would give this 6 stars if I could!
We loved our class and the helpful and kind instructors!
Set in a traditional Japanese kitchen we learned how to cook a variety of delicious Japanese dishes that we will definitely be cooking again for friends and family when we get home. Great experience, highly recommended!
We made Dashi, Tomato salad, plum rice, chicken gyosas, tofu salad, chicken karage, and tea jelly! Everything was delicious and fairly easy to make. The teachers were friendly and knowledgeable, and answered our many questions :) I would definitely recommend this class to anyone visiting Kyoto.
Will recommend to my friends
We loved the experience of preparing Sushi together with the children. Very friendly staff, lovely environment and excellent food. Thomas
I would not change a thing 😊
I had 3 kids ages 12 to 14 years joined me in this class. They found the class fun and easy to follow. They were rather pleased that they could cook a complete and delicious meal! It was money well spent. The kids now want cooking classes included in future family holidays! :-D
It was a wonderful and enjoyable experience for us. We all had a blast! It was so fun to learn new techniques and eat delicious food! The chef and staff were amazing. They explained everything so well and spoke English very well. It was also fun to meet other travelers! I highly recommend this class!!
We enjoyed how interactive the class was, the food was fresh and delicious. We learnt not only how to cook Japanese cuisine but also about Japanese history. Absolutely worth it!
The food was so great and the chefs are really helpful and nice. We made a salad, sushi, tempura and teriyaki chicken. Highly recommend if you are seeking to experience Japanese cooking.
Very nice cooking class! We learnt so much about Japanese culture and cuisine, it was really worth it! And the food we made was great and delicious!
The whole experience was a cultural highlight! The cooking class takes place in a traditional Japanese house, which contributes to the authentic atmosphere. The class was very hands-on, the teachers were great and we enjoyed a very delicious meal! I can highly recommend this class! Will definitely do it again when I'm back and also try it out in other places I will travel to.
We had a great, pleasant and social host who spoke great english and explained everything in a manner and pace that made it easy to follow. I was pleasantly surprised with how good the sushi actually turned out, so I'm definitely feeling more confident trying to make sushi at home after this. Highly reccomend this class!
Absolutely loved our sushi making class with Cooking Sun! The venue was a nightmare to find (its next to the German school! Helpful if directions were included in the confirmation email) but once we were there, what a fantastic lesson! Our teacher, Hiromi, was really friendly, very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English, and was just the right balance of hands on and letting us do it ourselves. We made a lovely range of things, and all tastes amazing at the end - we couldn't believe we'd made it ourselves! Really good value for money, a highlight of our trip.
