Bento is a home-packed meal common in Japan as a lunch box. Bento is well balanced, healthy meal. Let’s learn how to make traditional Japanese Bento with some tips and techniques!
This course features;
To make Well-balanced Bento
- Variety of ingredients is the must!
How to make several basic Japanese dishes often eaten at home
- Full use of various cooking techniques (Fry, Grill, Simmered, Marinated, etc.)
Pack foods in a Bento Lunch box
- Share some tips to create colorfully and nicely decorated look
Menu
7 basic Japanese dishes
- Two kinds of Onigiri (rice balls)
- Ginger-simmered beef in sweetened soy sauce
- Deep-fried shrimp
- Grilled fish
- Dashi-maki (rolled dashi omelet)
- Simmered squash
- Green vegetable with sesame dressing
* Served with Miso Soup, seasonal fruit, fresh vegetable
* The ingredients may change depending on the season
Programme
Lunch class:
- 11:30 am: Start class
- 11:35 am: Japanese broth
- 11:50 am: Make 6 kinds of dishes using various cooking techniques
- 12:45 pm: Make 2 kinds of Onigiri
- 1:00 pm: Pack dishes in a lunchbox colorfully and beautifully
- 1:15 pm: Tasting with miso soup
- 2:00 pm: End of the cooking class
Dinner class:
- 5:30 pm: Start class
- 5:35 pm: Japanese broth
- 5:50 pm: Make 6 kinds of dishes using various cooking techniques
- 6:45 pm: Make 2 kinds of Onigiri
- 7:00 pm: Pack dishes in a lunchbox colorfully and beautifully

"Highly recommended!"
The Bento cooking class with instructor Fumi-San was highly enjoyable and instructive. We cooked a set of seven dishes (!), and in addition we got to assemble our own little bento box. Each step was interactive, easy to follow and informative, for example Fumi-San explained the difference between different kinds of Soy Sauce and between using Sake, Mirin or Sugar. The cooking studio is located centrally in a very modern building. Everything was well organized and highly recommendable. Thank you again for a lovely experience!

"Lot's of fun with Fumi!"
The bento box class was very informative and lots of fun. Fumi is a great host and teacher. She had everything so organized and efficiently prepared and she supervised while we did all the " hands on" work. We made dashi from scratch, wagyu beef, fried shrimp, salad, nigiri and a few veggies. She showed us how to arrange everything into our bento boxes. It was also nice that she took photos throughout the class and sent them to us afterwards. Highly recommended.

"Amazing Bento Class"
This class was so fun and informative and most of all, DELICIOUS. Fumi is an amazing teacher and fun to learn with. I felt the price, amount of food and overall experience were worth every penny. Also the location was really nice. There are many shops around to explore as well as cafes for a little after meal coffee. Would definitely take more courses on my next visit and suggest it to my traveling foodie friends as well.

"Amazing!"
Tami and Fumi are the nicest ladies who taught us step by step, and gave my son, Quito, so much opportunity to actually be involved hands on from mixing to slicing to frying and rolling the onigiri with our bare hands. 7 dishes including some nice chat over eating our bentos in two hours was amazing! Quito left soooo happy, so mommy is soooo happy too. 🍙🍤🥩🥗 thank you Tami and Fumi! Definitely a must try activity when in Osaka!

"Awesome experience"
We had to change our plans last minute due to a typhoon arriving to Kansai, so we booked this cooking lesson to have something to do indoors. It was a really nice experience, Miyuki explained us everything in a very easy to understand way and giving us tips and curious data about Japanese cuisine (I thought bonito flakes were onion until she told me they were tuna :O). With this course you get to cook several dishes and different techniques and you are taught how to prepare a bento box having in mind Japanese aesthetics. Kawaii!
