You can learn how to cook authentic and healthy Japanese home meals in an intimate atmosphere as if you were cooking with your old friend. As the host has abundant overseas experience, so all the dishes she teaches to cook are easy to make almost anywhere outside of Japan. You will also have detailed recipes written in English.

Please choose one class from below. In each class the menu usually includes a main dish, 2 side dishes, soup and a delicious Japanese dessert. Menu can be customized by requests.Any dietary restrictions, kindly note upon booking. I usually discuss with customers what to cook before I accept a booking request.

1. Chirashizushi class

Chirashizushi, also known as scattered sushi served with colorful toppings, is cooked for celebrating special occasions such as festivals and family celebrations. It is also good for Obento, a fancy box lunch. Learn how to make it so that you can surprise your family and friends at your home with your own beautiful Chirashizushi.

Alternatively, we can make Sushi rolls instead of Chirashizushi.

2. Tofu variation class

Tofu, also known as soybean curd, is eaten in many ways in Japan, such as raw, stewed, fried, in soup, with other ingredients such as meat/seafood/vegetables. Tofu can be used even in sweet dishes as well. Learn how to cook Tofu in several ways and find how differently delicious each dish tastes!

3. Okonomiyaki class:

Okonomiyaki is a savory Japanese pancake containing a lot of shredded cabbage and various other ingredients such as pork or seafood. The word 'Okonimiyaki' literally means 'Grill as you like' or 'Grill what you like'. Take it easy and have fun cooking Okonomiyaki on the dining table.

*’Vegetarian’ means no meat and no fish.

**‘Muslim-friendly’ means no meat and no alcoholic condiments. If meat is used, we use halal meat.

"Wonderful host very knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine"

We had a wonderful experience cooking an authentic Japanese meal in a private home. We made 4 dishes and dessert and tea was provided. All of the dishes were delicious but not too complicated so we felt that we could recreate them back home. Our teacher was super lovely and so helpful, she walked us to the bus stop to make sure that we got home ok after the class. A great experience that I would recommend :)

What a very special evening! Our visit to Kyoto will always be a wonderful memory thanks to our visit with Haruko. She welcomed us into her lovely home and showed us so much hospitality. She had designed a delicious Japanese menu for our dinner which she then taught us how to cook. The food was delicious and Haruko was so thoughtful, catering to our dietary requirements. We all dined together and Haruko shared her culture and knowledge with us. Thank you so much Haruko for an unforgettable Japanese experience.

"Aloha and Shaka"

We booked our cooking class with Haruko on May 21 for dinner at your home. We prepared a fish/noodle/salad for dinner. Haruko was very gracious and welcoming. Several of our Hawaii friends took classes with her and recommended her. It was a wonderful evening of good food. She is definitely a good Japanese cook and loves sharing her recipes with her students. I must say Japanese cooking is time consuming and precise and the presentation is very important. We all enjoyed our meal and the special mocha pudding she prepared for dessert. The only suggestion I have is that more of the dishes be pre-cooked (konbo for the miso soup) or pre-cut (vegetables) so that the preparation time is less. We didn’t eat until 7:30PM. I will make the tofu salad and sweet/sour sauce the she taught us. I learned about beet sugar and good cooking techniques.
