소개

This is the only cooking class in Lisbon where you'll get to learn about pastry making at a real award-winning Portuguese bakery!

We'll go inside the kitchen of João's "pastelaria" in downtown Lisbon, that won 3rd Best Pastel de Nata in Lisbon in 2018. This is where you will learn how to bake the irresistible Portuguese Custard Tarts (aka Pastel de Nata) everybody is raving about these days.

This class is open to all levels, even if you don't have previous baking experience. As long as you like sweet treats, we like you!

We'll roll the puff pastry like the pros do, make the custard from scratch and bake it all inside a professional oven. João will entertain us with stories about his life as a baker - feel free to ask him anything about Portuguese sweets!

In the end, we'll eat the warm tarts along with some coffee or, even better, some sour cherry liquor served inside an edible chocolate cup, while hanging out with the other participants.

Pastel de Nata tasting (3 tarts for you to eat as soon as they come out of the oven or to take home!)
Drink of your choice: coffee, tea or sour cherry liquor (aka Ginjinha)
Small tastings of other typical Portuguese sweets baked in-house

5:00 pm: Arrival & Welcome to Pastelaria Batalha.
5:10 pm: Introduction to the history of Pastelaria Batalha and of Pastel de Nata.
5:20 pm: Cooking Class inside a professional kitchen
6:30 pm: Tasting of pastries baked during the class. Tea, coffee or sour cherry liquor is served.
7:00 pm: End of class

"Great experience— tasty pastry!"

Great class, wonderful instructor, very informative, hands on class. We learned the history behind Portugal’s most famous pastry and how to make them step by step. The pastries we made were delicious! Best of all, they have put together a handy kit you can purchase on site (the pastry tins, dispenser, etc) you need to easily make these at home. The bakery is in Malviera, about a 20-30 min drive from Lisbon, so you also get to see some of the countryside.

Truly good fun, enjoyable and tasty! João gives great background and tips and makes sure everyone is participating regardless of one’s cooking skills! We really enjoyed ourselves! Very much recommended!

The way I like to see a city is to learn how to make whatever that city/country is famous for. So making Pastel de Nata seemed like the obvious choice. We started off by tasting other Portuguese treats then got down to business. While we were making the Pastel de Nata, João gave us tips on how we would go about doing this at home since things would be a little different. He also told us about the history of Pastel de Nata and was overall a great teacher.

Having eaten a hundred pasteis since I first visited Portugal in the 90s, it was interesting to see how they’re made. A fun concept, with modest involvement from the participants. But I’d be happy to buy the pastéis “we” made.
