About

Traditional Japanese family meal includes a main dish, 2 side dishes with rice and a Miso soup. In this activity, we will cook Nigujaga (beef simmers with 3 types of vegetable), Ichiyaboshi (Overnight-dried-baked fish), Japanese egg roll, rice and Miso soup. You will have a general idea about what kind of food we actually eat every day. Depending on season and market situation, the menu might be different.

6:50 pm: Preparing fish first
7:30 pm: Cooking beef simmers with vegetable
8:00 pm: Cooking egg roll

8:50 pm: Enjoy all the food you cooked

"Great introduction into Japanese food culture"

Sho offers a convenient and comprehensive cooking experience about 30 min from central Osaka. He picks you up and prepares everything, incl. marinated ingredients that need to sit for 48h. When cooking, he explains the background and techniques of each step, so you get the connection to Japanese food culture (e. g. balancing flavors) and also uses his scientific knowledge to complement that. We really enjoyed the cooking and took away a lot that we hopefully will put into practice at home. Last but not least, the food we made and of course ate was absolutely delicious!

"Nice"

It was a very nice meeting with Show and his wife in their kitchen. They explaned us how a Japanese family preprares a normal dinner. Even the chemical terms of cooking were explaned. It was a little bit pitty that we didn't do much our selves. It was more teaching than workshop. Very very nice people. So at the end it was a nice experience.

We both enjoyed learning about family home cooking with Sho. It was great to just be the two of us and have his full attention. Highly recommended.
