I had a great afternoon at Lemongrass cooking school in Bangkok. The class included a trip to a local market and a little walking tour of the immediate area. It was cool to see how rice papers are made locally and fun to use them fresh later while cooking! The dishes prepared were tasty, the instructions were clear, and a recipe book was provided so that I can practice at home. The class is a short walk from hotels in the Khao San area, which was very convenient.

We had an amazing day cooking! All of the food was easy to cook and well explained. Definitely one of the better cooking classes I’ve ever taken. Go hungry, I ate every we made and left so full. But sooo worth it.
A fantastic time and great value. You learn to make six of the most popular Thai dishes and they are all incredible. The mango sticky rice was easily the best I’ve had. There were only two of us participating so it was all hands-on and there was lots of individual focus to guide us. Be aware that the market she normally takes you to is closed on a Monday, so we walked through the streets to visit a different market and some supermarkets to be shown the ingredients.
The class is excellent value. I made red curry, fried spring rolls, chicken with cashew nuts, pad thai, massaman curry, and the best mango sticky rice I've ever eaten. I would recommend it to anyone.
This cooking class was definitely the highlight of our short trip. We really did not plan to do this but we ran out of activities to do. My family enjoyed the whole activity most especially the market tour where we got to immerse ourselves with Thai natives and locals. They also picked us up from our hotel which was very convenient since it was our first time in Bangkok. Though it was short notice, but we got catered very well. We got to enjoy each other's own made Thai dish and we even had a little competition between our family members. We all love to cook and this experience made our trip complete and satisfying.
Would recommend the Lemongrass cooking school to any person of any cooking level. It was culinary and culturally a wonderfully brilliant experience.
The tour through different local markets to buy the ingredients for 6 different dishes was a really great experience. We got to know so many different vegetables, sauces, spices, herbs of Thai kitchen! The cooking class itself was absolutely fantastic - just like we were invited to somebody's home for having a good time. Everything tasted awesome!
Had such a good morning walking around the markets and learning how to make yum food. Don’t eat breakfast beforehand trust me!
Gayle was so great! And very good at what she does. Loved it!!!
Great tour on a smaller market, showing what food ingredients will be used and what others are for. Very good explanations and recommendations. Cooking was fun and easy when you learned how to apply them. Would absolutely recommend for a more authentic cooking experience and lovely teacher.
Would 100% recommend. Very simple and easy to follow recipes. Simple tips and tricks to take home with you. Highly enjoyed it!
Had such a good day! The market tour was really fun and got to cook so many Thai dishes!!
Learned a lot and not only cooking/recipies. But also about the ingredients and thailand. The woman was super nice!
Very nice experience. Very authentic!
We are so fortunate to be the only the two students in the cooking class for the whole morning! We got the full attention from the cooking Chef teacher. We get to taste our own cooking as our lunch! 6 courses of authentic Thai food.
We had a lovely morning with Gayle. She took us to see the lady making the rice pancakes for spring rolls. The market was very interesting too seeing all the various ingredients we were cooking that morning. Gayle was a super teacher and I'm looking forward to trying out all these dishes. Thank you once again for a unique experience with you in Thailand.
Wanted a true Thai cooking lesson from a local. Got both from GAO of Lemongrass. Started by shopping in a couple out-of-the-way markets, did a fair bit of preparation, then cooked and ate our dishes in stages. Delicious food. I learned a lot and enjoyed the experience.
It was perfect ! we learned how to make 6 dishes. The teacher she is really nice and friendly :)
Very friendly, good knowledge, We liked the walk around the local market, and getting the ingredients, well worth the money and the experience , will take this home with us.
We had a reservation for 3. In the way over, we underestimated how long it would take so we were about an hour late due to traffic. Our host accommodated for us as it ended up being a private class. She customised the curry to the level of spiciness and took us on a personalised tour around the markets, allowing us to buy fresh produce to take back to our home country. It was an amazing experience, and best of all, I no longer have to venture outside my own home to get mango sticky rice
Small group, we had three people in the class plus the instructor ( who was awesome). The maket tour was great, it makes you see khao san area in a new way. The food it self was delicious and fresh. You get to be very involved in cooking and prep process! Would highly reccomend over larger commercial cooking schools.
Loved walking to the market and shopping for the raw materials to cook with.
The instructor was really nice and the class size being so small was wonderful. The food was great but the kitchen could use some work. Just a little bit of a/c could help a lot.
The teacher was super nice, she took us around the neighborhood to find hidden gems in the Khao San area. We would never have found those places without her ! The class itself was amazing, so flavorful :) and some of us left with goodies to take back.
In addition to learning so much about Thai cooking--skills that we are very much looking forward to putting into practice back home--we also learned so much about Thai culture. Can't recommend this class enough.
My daughter & I thoroughly enjoyed our Thai cooking course with Gail. The food shopping beforehand was fascinating and informative. The cooking lesson was fun, very well thought out and included lots of fresh ingredients that were unfamiliar to us. We left feeling inspired & with the feeling that we could confidently tackle some Thai cooking on our return home. Many thanks again to Gail.
This half day class was perfect for our group of three. The market tour wasn't fancy, but it felt like what a typical Thai person would do any day of the week to get their food. It was great also to stop by one vendor who was making the rice paper wrappers by hand! The instructor was very organized. While 6 dishes sound like a lot to fit in, we didn't feel rushed. Our instructor gave us a lot of great tips throughout the process, focusing on authenticity of ingredients and good health. While it might be difficult to recreate these dishes in America, due to the ingredients we used, the techniques weren't difficult and the results were absolutely delicious!!!
This was a great experience from the market to the kitchen. Learning the daily activities at the market, and the process of selecting the right ingredients was a very cool inside look in Thai culture. Cooking all the amazing dishes that I have been eating throughout Thailand was mind blowing and so rewarding. I will be practicing all of the skills I learned at home with the recipe book I received!!!
We had a great experience learning to cook traditional Thai cuisine. Gale was nice young and very friendly. We were similar in age and all got along well. The dishes she taught us to make were actually better than anything we had in any restaurants and we left full with a nice cookbook to take home of what we learned. Thanks for the great memories.
We enjoyed so much our cooking course!! Highly recommended. Today, only one day after returning from Thailand, we are meeting at an asian store, buying the equipment and ingridients for cooking Thai food. Tomorrow we are meeting friends and we will cook for them Thai food. All thanks to our wonderful instructor from Lemon Grass. Please note that at home my wife does all the cooking and I am banned from the kitchen. My work requires intensive travel around the world, so I stay at hotels, I dont remember when was the last time I cooked an egg for breakfast. Obviously I didn't have any confidence in my cooking, let alone asian cooking, when we started, me and my son, the 4 hours course at Lemon Grass. After an exciting trip to the market we had a very enjoyable course where we learned all the basics, from soups, to main courses and dessert. Don't miss!!
