About
Silom Thai Cooking School is where Thai cooking and culture come together. The sounds, sights, smells and tastes found in the typical Thai market are emblematic of everyday life in Thailand and shape the contours of Thai cuisine.
The evening course does not include a market tour, but to fully understand and appreciate Thai cuisine, Silom Thai Cooking School brings the market to you. We will show and teach you about the traditional fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices used to make authentic Thai food. Once you have understood the importance of Thai ingredients in our cuisine, it will be time for you to prepare your very own traditional Thai meal.

What to know: Book in advance because the classes fill up quickly.
What I liked: I took the class in the Silom Thai Cooking School house so the decor was lovely. The house was decorated with retro Thai objects. The school was very comfortable and it made cooking a leisurely activity.
Good for: Those looking for a soft introduction to Thai cooking.
Best way to get there: Chong Nonsi BTS (Skytrain) and then a short motorbike ride that will cost you 20 baht to get to Silom Soi 13 and meet your teacher at the school.

The person leading the class (I can't remember her name) was so fun and full of energy which made the class even more enjoyable. With the evening class you do no get to go to the market as they are closed but they created a spread of the table which made us feel like we didn't miss out. They accommodated to my vegetarian diet and it didn't disrupt the flow of the class. We made 5 dishes and enjoyed every one of them and even got to take away a recipe booklet so we didn't forget the recipes. I would definitely recommend Silom Thai Cooking Experience!

I did the evening class with 2 members of my family. The location is slightly difficult to find because it’s in an alleyway but do not let that put you off. The instructors are so friendly and funny, we made fresh coconut milk, learnt 5 dishes and sat down to eat them family style with the other people in our session. I have been in BKK and Thailand over 20 times.
Always wanted to do a cooking class and finally I signed up for an afternoon class just because wanted to have it short, sweet and no market visit.
Perfect length and pace. If you have some little knowledge about Thai culinary and been shopping fruit and veggies on your own before this is perfect to compliment already existing experience.
Plus cooking book they give by the end of the class have Thai karaoke spelling for all herbs, veggies, spices - sooo, you are all covered!
Next morning I went myself to the market and bought all ingredients for pad thai and tom yum, plus veg store ladies brust in laugh once you try speak in Thai and they are super helpful and will throw extra champions in your basket ;)
I love Thailand for their smiles and happy people and of course fooood!
PS: I liked the book “Very Thai” prior class (while you are waiting for rest of chefs to join the class) it is a must read to anyone interested in Thailand and to understand modern Thai :)
I bought that book as a Christmas present to my friend!

The class was wonderful for me and my kids. Kids understood the ingredients and knows how to cook Thai dishes and about Thailand very well. The setting was good enough to take picture, it was very instagramable. However the location was hard to find and the fire station could be a little bit dangerous for kids.

The teacher was amazingly knowledgeable about all the vegetables and spices. She explained each one, let us smell them. She was friendly and funny, and frequently made us laugh. The recipes were delicious and could be adapted to our particular spice levels. We ate a lot! There was time to enjoy each course, prior to cooking the next dish. Our teacher was obviously very knowledgeable and shared that knowledge in an entertaining manner. We chuckled a lot as we learned to make delicious Thai food. There was a family in our class with two small children and she seamlessly made the class fun for kids and adults at the same time. Food is customizeable (ie. more or less spice, etc). A great time!

I took my 15 year old daughter and 8 year old son to Silom Cooking class and we had memorable bonding experience with great tuition and a superb 5 course meal. The pleasure of preparing the dishes ourselves certainly enhanced the dining but ego aside, the food was of exceptionally high quality. Our instructor was very sympathetic to our tastes and skill levels (especially my 8 year old). The school was spotlessly clean and we were warmly welcomed and looked after. I have done other cooking courses in Bangkok - this one is the best.

Don't be fooled by the surrounding area, this is a great place to get a Thai Food cooking class! The environment is authentic and the people are excellent and give you great knowledge about the Thai food and culture. I went with my daughter on a Thursday night class, we had people from all over the world in our class of roughly 9 people. They are very helpful and can accommodate to anyones comfort needs or food preferences(vegan, no pork, no seafood, you name it they will help. I would also recommend signing up for multiple days as you can learn different dishes as did some of the other people in our class.

Joy is a very friendly teacher and he speaks perfectly English and even a the herbs in different languages (Chinese, Dutch etc). Don’t expect that you walk away and know how to cook Thai. "A cozy and fun trip into the basic elements of Thai cooking."
The class is hidden but you’ll get visual cues with its signages displayed once you enter the alleyway. Took an Uber from Siam Center and it was about 150THB ($5USD) during peak hour of 5:30PM. The last class starts at 5. Advice: LEAVE AT 4PM lol.
When I arrived, I took off my shoes, headed upstairs, got my bags into the locker (you get a key) and as an introvert, I felt comforted with the crowd that attended. Mostly flight steward and stewardess’s that were amongst the session.
Our trainer is a lovely Thai woman and phenomenal motherly cook, that treated us with the works. She is hilarious.
Our first dish was Tom Yum (seafood). After this dish and it’s secrets shared (she calls it a PASSWORD) you get the rhythm of the further dishes, latter. Next was Pad Thai, Red Curry, Green Curry and Mango with Sticky Rice WHICH was made for us. We premeditated this last dish at the beginning of the class before Tom Yum. That created a nice chemistry with the group (soaking our hands in coconut water, draining the coconut etc.
Make sure you eat NOTHING hours beforehand and if you’re doing the evening class at 5, leave early. Value is hands down a clear winner, location is lols but it’s probably home owned. The atmosphere of the prepping room (theory room) and cooking kitchen (prac) is mediocre but hygienic.
4.5/5 would recommend to everyone at least one stage of their trip to Bangkok.

I really enjoyed the cooking class. I also appreciate the service, I registered only less than 24 hours before and there was no problem.
However, it would be nice to get more precise information on cookly, because it was advertised to be 3-hour class, but in reality it was just a little over 2 hours. If you really want to learn some Thai cooking, I'd definitely recommend doing a longer class!

We had the cooking class with Jay and he is a delight. He’s a very thorough teacher at explaining every dishes and spices we use which is good if you are a beginner cook or unfamiliar with Asian dishes. The recipes we learned (tom yum, pad thai, som tam, sticky rice, red curry) are delicious but very easy to learn so don’t be daunted if you’ve never cooked before. We were surprised how easy it is to cook delicious Thai meals. Our class had a 12-year old coming with her parents and she more than hold her own due to simplicity of the explanation and cooking. Our teacher Jay had us smiling and laughing throughout the whole session. The recipe book at the end was a nice touch. We couldn’t ask for better cooking lesson. It’s simply worth every penny.

I could not sit on the floor, so the considerate staff and teacher made accommodations for my mild handicap. As a solo traveling female i was hesitant about going alone to a place where I am unfamiliar with language . The school is on a alley, but good signage made it easy to find. The teacher and manager walked with me at 9pm to the main street and helped me catch a cab. Our instructor was Aey. She was excellent. Very thoughtful, considerate of our different backgrounds. Her English made it very easy for us to understand all her information. Added background information to the use of herbs and vegetables. The small group numbers enabled slick progress through all the courses cooked and served.
The participation was just about right. Helping some times, preparing sometimes, and always cooking individually.
We loved our menu and noticed, if you were a repeat attendee or had any allergies, different dishes were offered.
All the ingredients were fresh and that reflected in the taste of the dishes.
Was the best meal we had whilst in Bangkok.

This cooking class was awesome! I would definitely do it again on my next visit and highly recommend the class! The instructor was very informative and entertaining. They have you remove your shoes (which is a good thing) so I'd suggest bringing socks to wear.

"Amazing cooking class"
This my ever first time I tried out a cooking class. I was on holidays in Bangkok and thought it would be great to come back with some thai cooking skills.
I loved the fact that the teacher showed all the raw ingredients necessary to make each and every dish. We made 5 dishes during the evening. As a vegetarian, I was very pleased that I could make my own dishes appart from the others!
At the end of the class a recipie book was handed out with a few more additional recipies. The book also contains a list of all ingredients with pictures!
