Chef Wayne was very friendly and a great host. We enjoyed the fruits and the market tour. The making of the bubbles was fun. The entire experience was enjoyable.
Thanks, Wayne for the great market tour and cooking course. I learned a lot about Taiwanese food and cooking and you made me taste the best tofu I have ever eaten. Your course contributes to my nice memories of my stay in Taipei!
The food tour was loads of fun - he was very knowledgeable and allowed us to try so many foods without rushing us. Making boba was really cool and delicious - best boba ever! Would definitely recommend it to our friends!
Wayne kicked off the class with a visit to the local market in Dongmen, where he introduced local produce and snacks. Back in his nearby workshop, he went through the recipes and engaged you in preparing the ingredients while sharing useful kitchen tips. Best of all, Wayne sits down with you at the end of class to enjoy the dishes you cooked under his guidance. Overall a very enjoyable session in a cozy, spacious setting for homecooks of all levels.
If you want to do something great in Taipei you should book this class with Wayne. Firstly, we visited the market and Wayne and his assistant told us many fun and interesting things about Taiwanese cuisine. In his studio we had a lot of time to prepare great food (Hot and sour soup, two different kinds of dumplings, bubble tea). Wayne managed to create a very relaxed, friendly but still focused atmosphere and after a few minutes our group almost felt like friends. Our food creations were great, we learned a lot, not only about cooking but also about the country and the culture of Taiwan and all in all we had a great afternoon. We want to emphasize that Wayne did everything to make his guests and pupils happy and did not mind that the class took longer than planned. He also had great options for vegetarians. Thank you for this fun and very generous almost-day.
Leona was very kind and friendly! Loved the local Dongmen market, and quite liked how Leona took us around to explain the history behind them. This was a very local market, so it had a very different feeling than other markets and nobody spoke english here so we would have just walked past. But with Leona explaining as we walked and letting us taste bit of the local food as well, we def enjoyed it more than if we had done it by ourselves. One disappointment was some of the local food shop we were meant to have tasted closed as it was a Sunday maybe, and it would have been good if there were some replacement food experiences in these circumstances. But loved the bubble tea making class, making bubbles from scratch and then getting to drink them at the end was quite nice too. Overall, we really enjoyed it :) thanks Leona!
If you love bubble tea then you choose this. The crazy market will be fun. Savoury and tasty street foods are waiting for you. Also, kindly Teacher guide to you. At, last making bubble-tea easy and fun to learn.
I am still thinking about the braised pork over rice that we made... slowly getting the ingredients together so I can make it again!!! My husband was a big fan as well. I loved starting off the day touring the local market and getting the local perspective. Wayne is really kind and knowledgeable. His team member was great as well!! The 4 hours really fly by so fast...We left wanting more!!
We had such a fun day cooking and learning! Wayne is very knowledgeable and we got to try so many things from the wet market we wouldn’t have known to try. Thank you again for the great food and great times!
Perfect way to learn to immerse yourself in Tawain culture. Wonderful class and family experience.
First time travelling in Taiwan with my wife and her mum, we booked the cooking class as we wanted to do something different on top of all the regular tourist attractions. The class started with a tour of the day market, where we got to taste some food and traditional teas and discover local fruits. Then we went on to the studio which is a lovely place to get hands on with the cooking ! Wayne was very pedagogic and took time to explain and answer our questions, he also shared tips and history about dishes he was teaching us. The food was so yummy and tasted really authentic, we had loads as well and having lunch with Wayne was a lovely time getting to know more about him. It was a great experience for us, Wayne and Leona were so friendly and eager to share about their culture. We don’t speak Chinese so it was very interesting for us to ask and learn about Taiwan and Taiwanese people. Absolutely recommend spending some time with these guys you won’t regret it ! Thank you Wayne and Leona :)
Really enjoyed the class. Wayne really takes the time to show you the local area where he does his shopping, makes you test the products, and then shows you how it's done in his really nice studio. Also manages to keep the class really fun and entertaining while learning a lot, giving a lot of advice and tips. I highly recommend it if you stop by Taipei!
Make my day cooking lab was established in 2015. Wayne is our main chef/instructor, who started learning and cooking when he lived in Melbourne as an overseas student. He gained various cooking experiences culturally and technically, he’s main expertise is Italian cuisine and Taiwanese cuisine. At first, we only have classes for Taiwanese people teaching Italian dishes such as pasta, risotto, ravioli, steak and salads.
In late 2016, we designed a cooking class specifically for tourists. We interpret the meaning of “cultural exchange” into something more precise and valuable. We think not only cooking Taiwanese dishes is a must-do activity, but taking a stroll in a crowded traditional morning market, and shop and eat like local, as well as having a long pervasive conversation over the meal with the cooking teacher. Since then, we have received travelers, bloggers and foodies from all over the world and built our reputation on Facebook.
