If you’re searching for an authentic wasabi experience, look no further! Our wasabi course on October 5, 2024, was more than just fascinating—it was an immersion into nature’s heart. The breathtaking area provided a serene backdrop, and even the rain added to the charm, bringing fun to the experience and couldn’t stop David. His warmth and expertise made the experience unforgettable. Highly recommended! 🌿
We took this class in February and had a great time. The walk up the mountain was a bit long, but the forest was very pretty and a welcome change from urban Tokyo. My wife and I learned so much about different types of wasabis and how to best eat it. Highly recommended but prepare for a bit of a train ride and a walk up the mountain to get to the wasabi.
2.5 hrs private tour with a local wasabi farmer where we learned a lot about wasabi. We were in one of his fields deep in the forest. We got to taste different varieties of roast beef and had a great day.
David was incredibly kind to us, and whilst we had some rather wet weather, he made sure we were comfortable and safe whilst trekking up to the farm. Tasting the real wasabi was great! We got to try two types of wasabi, as well and remove some sprouts from a fully grown root and plant them in his farm. David told us all about the local area, his experiences whilst travelling, and asked plenty of questions about us too! It was a wonderful conversation, and we're looking forward to meeting him again in the future. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in nature, Japanese culture, or tasty food.
David is an experienced Okutama-area registered guide with a passion for wasabi, local agriculture and the many naturally occurring plants of this mountainous region. The experience he provides is indeed unique, even to the extend of varying according to season, weather and the preferences of guests.
