Man bekommt viel persönliche Betreuung.
Was will man mehr?! ❤️
From pickup to drop off, nothing was a problem. The pickup was on time, and the driver was comfortable with our driver 'Karma', more than happy to point out some sights and answer questions. On arrival, we were made to feel very welcome, and immediately we started on the walking tour through the rice terraces with plenty of information being provided on the way. Our cooking experience was equally entertaining and from picking the herbs and vegetables, through to the preparation and cooking, every step was explained and assistance given. It was lovely to see the family getting involved also. I would thoroughly recommend this tour and we thank Happy, Dewi, Karma, and family for giving us a glimpse into some more traditional processes.
Great host, delicious food, beautiful environment. Really special experience.
We had a wonderful time, from the moment we were picked up. After a short bike ride through picturesque rice fields, we arrived at the cooking school. We loved picking fresh organic ingredients and using them to cook a few dishes. We made so much food, that we couldn’t eat it all. We loved the whole experience and learned traditional Balinese cooking. We were given a recipe booklet to take home. We recommend this experience to everyone!
We had the opportunity to see amazing views while biking and had the most amazing experience with Made Happy and his wife, who helped us understand their culture through Balinese food. Many thanks for this unique moment. Plus, thanks for adding vegetarian options for me :)
I am so happy to have booked this class. The scenery, the people, and the food reminded me of the old Bali without the mega hotels, villas, and crowds. We started with an easy downhill cycle through pristine rice paddies. Walked in the rice fields and met some beautiful friendly locals keen to share their way of living. We got to the organic farm where we received a warm welcome from the whole family. I am an amateur organic farmer myself so I really enjoyed walking around and sharing tips on how to grow beautiful food without the need for chemical inputs. We picked the veggies we use to cook our meals and we started cooking up a storm. The views were amazing, the air was fresh and vibrant and everything was just awesome. Just go for it 👍🏼👍🏼 Thanks ❤️
We had an incredible cooking class experience in Bali after a scenic walk through the rice fields. The class was absolutely delightful! We got to make eleven different dishes, and the hands-on approach allowed us to be fully involved in every step. The staff was exemplary, ensuring that we were picked up on time from our hostel in Canggu and safely dropped back. Everything was seamless and top-notch. Highly recommend!
We had the privilege of partaking in this wonderful Balinese cooking class combined with a captivating tour of Bali's rice terraces Jatiluwih. The course was exceptionally well-structured, and the team displayed immense kindness and hospitality throughout. Cooking proved to be an absolute delight, offering plenty of enjoyment. At the conclusion, we were treated to a sumptuous and delectable feast. An all-around remarkable experience! Our heartfelt thanks to the Kubu Terrace Cooking Class team! ❤
We absolutely loved our time at the cooking class, right from the drive to the countryside, walking through the UNESCO rice fields, picking the produce, cooking, and eating the food. It was so serene and peaceful, and every detail was very well thought out. We particularly liked how the cooking aspect was very hands-on, and cooking non-typical Balinese foods. None of it was too complex, but the flavors were amazing!
My favourite day in Bali was the one spent in Jatiluwih at Kubu Terrace with Made Happy and his family. From our early morning transfer from our villa to the cycle ride through the UNESCO protected rice terraces every moment was fun and informative. The ride was leisurely and downhill with some stops along the way to learn more about Bali’s farming and rice production. Upon arriving at Kubu Terrace (after some additional off-road cycling) we met his wife and were greeted by a flower garland of our names to celebrate our honeymoon. We cooked rice the old fashioned way and walked around the farm to pick the vegetables that would become our lunch. From here we cooked and ate an absolutely delicious feast of multiple dishes, most utilising the very important Bumbu Bali paste. I will definitely be making the peanut sauce at home. We were lucky enough to try their homegrown coffee alongside our pisang goreng (fried bananas) and cacao and jackfruit straight from the tree. There’s really nothing like it! Made Happy made the day with his enthusiasm, attitude and hospitality - and the wise admission that it is his beautiful wife who is the talented chef 😀 I highly recommend this when visiting Bali!
This cooking class has been the highlight of our trip to Bali. Karma picked us up from our accommodation and drove us to the rice terraces while sharing his knowledge about the Balinese culture. The walk through the rice terraces was just beautiful followed by picking our own veggies at the organic farm. We had so much fun cooking the delicious dishes and left with a warm heart & full tummy. I loved that it was possible to cook vegetarian dishes and that the family made sure I was comfortable because of my pregnancy. Can highly recommend booking this cooking class!
An adventure that gave you the true organic Bali experience that was warm, inviting and inclusive. This is the second time we have done this class, and wanted a friend who was travelling with us to experience the fun that we had previously. Would recommend to anyone
Such nice people from the start till the end. We had an amazing walk to the farm. The guide knows a lot. We harvest different kind of vegetalbles in the garden, So good! They make pictures, So you can do your job 😄. During cookingclass they explain everything and give help, only if you need. What a wonderful day with an amazing (Unesco) view. O, by the way, my husband got sick and was able to sleep in their house. The family is very hospitable. The day after they sent us the foto’s and asked again if my husband is feeling better. Please, visit them and enjoy a delicious meal, made by yourself.
Beautiful location, worth the drive from Seminyak. Lovely little cycle through untouched rice fields downhill to the cooling class location. We picked our own fresh ingredients from the garden which has been in the family for centuries. Cooking class was really well run with a small group and a really fun family atmosphere, food was also delicious! Highly recommended.
We had the best day with Madè and his family. They were incredibly hospitable, knowledgeable, and the food we prepared was nothing short of delicious! Our trip down the mountain through the rice paddies was stunning. Madè shared many stories about the land and his family, which made the experience even more authentic. We explored the organic garden and collected all of our herbs, spices and vegetables. Madè and his wife taught us how to cook a large selection of traditional Balinese dishes and desserts. The outdoor kitchen was beautiful and we enjoyed cooking and eating our meal in a stunningly intimate setting overlooking the rice fields and mountains. We highly recommend this cooking class and it was a highlight of our time in Bali.
This is the best activity that I’ve done in Bali. Cycling through the rice terrace was exciting a. The view was beautiful and the tour guide has good photographing skills. The owner and his wife are very friendly. It was so fun to pick up ingredients from his organic garden and cook Balinese dishes while learning their culture. Highly recommended to everyone!
What a splendid day we had! This was certainly the highlight of our Bali trip. We’ve been to many cooking classes, but this was definitely the best planned and thought through. If you’re looking for a holistic experience of hiking through a UNESCO rice terrace, and farm-to-table Balinese cooking experience (and eating it), this is it. And we guarantee you won’t ever forget Bumbu Bali! Thanks Made, Dewi, and Karma for the wonderful day out!
This family (and friend) business is well run and fun! From the initial communication, early morning pick up from our hotel, bike ride through the rice terraces, picking the produce to cook during the 9 part cooking class, Made and his family did not miss a beat. This full day experience is one not to be missed. However you choose to make it to Kubu Terrace, trek or bike, you will enjoy this cooking adventure.
This was the best cooking class that my fiancé and me have ever done, but it’s much more than just a cooking class really. Made, Karma, Made’s wife and mother-in-law made this a truly unforgettable experience and the highlight of our holiday in Bali. We were picked up at 07:30 by Karma from Seminyak and made the 1.5 hour drive to Jatiluwih. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and takes your breath away. We then began a short 2km wander through the rice terraces to meet Made and had lots of photos taken along the way. We went to Made’s home and the base for the cooking class, which takes place in a covered space with unbelievable views over Made’s property. We really can’t emphasise how beautiful the view is whilst you’re cooking and eating! Photos were also taken by Made and Karma throughout. We were given welcome drinks and then started picking vegetables and herbs from Made’s organic garden. We saw vanilla plants, a beehive and amazing chillies, amongst other things. We then started to cook. Over the course of the day, we made Bumbu Bali, which acted as the base for subsequent dishes, Moringa Soup and Sayar Urap. We enjoyed these as a starter. We went on to make Balinese chicken curry, two types of Satay with accompanying sauces, chicken dumplings and rice. The food was plentiful and delicious! Throughout the cooking, it was a very hands on experience, as we went through the recipe booklet and were able to prepare the food and cook it with Made. The kitchen was spotless the whole way through and there was clearly a lot of effort made to ensure that chopping boards, pans, plates and utensils remained clean. There was also a nearby sink and Made provided gloves to handle chicken, if we’d wanted them. We felt like we truly learnt how to make these dishes and also understood the ingredients going into each of them. The recipe book was given to us to take home as a souvenir. We finished by making friend bananas and enjoyed these with freshly made Balinese coffee, which is roasted on site. We were then driven home by Karma. The whole way through the day, we learnt about the history of the rice terraces and how Made’s property is his inheritance. Made explained what the property, and the cooking classes, means to the community there and we saw how much this means to them. We feel really privileged to have been able to attend this class and learnt a huge amount. Thank you so much to you all for this special day! It truly was the highlight of our time in Bali.
We were collected from our hotel after breakfast and driven in a very comfortable vehicle to the rice paddies. It was raining very heavily and we were supplied with anoraks before cycling to the farm. The cycle was extremely fun and guided at our pace. We were then shown round the farm and assisted to pick fresh vegetables, before starting the class. We learned how to cook about 7 dishes in total - all delicious! This was a family run operation, away from the hustle and bustle of tourist towns. Overall a very informative and different experience!
What an amazing day! My boyfriend and i ended our wonderful vacation with this amazing cooking class. :D We got a pick up at our hotel, our driver was very friendly. After we arrived in a beautiful town, we met Mate. A Wonderful guy, Who could tell us all about the area and the rice fields. We went on a 30 min hike to the location of the class. The view was unreal! The class itself was amazing as well. Authentic Balinese recipes, wich where simple to make but so delicious. We picked our own vegetables out of Mate's garden, wich was a very nice touch! All and all one of the highlights of our vacation. We did save the best for last! :)
An amazing experience with Made and his family. We were picked up from our hotel at the specified time and taken on a long drive to the picturesque Jatiluwih. Although the drive is long, the whole experience is so so worth it. Upon arrival, we went on a lovely bike ride - which was easy - and we were able to stop to take photos and our guide was fantastic. He talked us through any questions we had and was absolutely lovely. Once we had completed our cycle, we went back to Made’s farm, we were presented with a delicious lemongrass drink and then picked all of our fresh ingredients - all completely homegrown by Made and his family - and then we started to cook. Made and his wife were excellent and talked us through each dish we were making - we even got a menu to take home as a keepsake. We made lots of different traditional Balinese dishes that were all delicious. We started with the most important dish: Bumbu Bali, a staple for most Balinese dishes. We then progressed to make numerous delicious dishes such as: Fresh Moringa soup, Sayur Urab, Chicken curry, chicken dumplings, Satay Lilit and Skewers (cooked traditionally on the bbq), Sambal Matah, Traditional Peanut sauce, Steamed rice, and finally Pisang Goreng (Fried Bananas) - which were served with the most delicious palm sugar syrup - which Made told us the recipe for upon request!! At the beginning of the trip, Made showed us his own honeycomb that he had created by taking to the local jungle to populate with a Queen Bee and then brought back later - we said that we would love to try it, however Made said that the bees were very aggressive at the moment - despite this, at the end of the trip, he disappeared and then returned with a sample for us to try which was incredible; he really went the extra mile to make our experience the best that it could be. Although this trip may seem slightly expensive compared to others, and it can be quite a distance to travel if you are staying in popular tourist areas of Bali, I cannot recommend this experience more. Made and his family made the trip so easy for us and so worthwhile - it was truly a traditional experience and we learnt so much about Balinese cooking, traditions and their way of life. Please do take our advice and support Made’s dream to take this experience even further, as he divulged some amazing ideas to us on our trip with how he could expand this cultural experience to be even more amazing! A huge thank you to Made and all of his wonderful family for giving us such a once in a lifetime experience! Hal & Courtney x
All I can say is wow. You will not find a more authentic cooking class, starting with a short trek through the rice fields to the lovely Kubu Terrace! The family cannot be more welcoming, we used all the fresh ingredients grown right on sight! We absolutely loved it, do not book onto a commercial hotel cooking class, book here you honestly will not regret it. You even get your own cook book to take home so you can cook for the family. Thank you so much ♥️
This was an amazing experience. If you get the chance you won't be sorry.
We went to Made’s house after a short trek through the rice fields. Made and his family made us feel so welcomed. For a city dweller being able to pick our veges off his field and cooking with them is really interesting. And the food wow! Soo soo good. To think we cooked it. Haha Oh and they have a friendly dog miko.
Amazing experience, lovely hosts, beautiful view in an organic hands on cooking class. With lots of information about their culture too.
The whole experience was truly amazing! From getting picked up from your hotel by Kutut who was a lovely driver to being able to pick all of your own veggies that you are gonna pick on the farm. It’s a truly authentic experience and the view was amazing, not to mention the food!! 100% recommend
I had no regrets joining the cookly class in Kubu Terrace. It provided free transport, which could be costly if I were to engage my own driver into the UNESCO heritage site deep in the mountains of Bali. After landing at the drop-off point, there was a breezy trek and it seemed short because I was enjoying the greenery along the path. Upon arrival, I was welcomed by our teacher Mr Seneng (which means "Happy" in English). He was friendly and cheerful and that made the class enjoyable. He gave clear instructions, making the dishes easy to learn, even for a cooking novice like me. I went around his farm to pick my own cooking ingredients, had a lot of hands-on in preparing my own dishes, took a lot of photos and had a lot of laughter for the afternoon. I ate all the dishes I prepared and it was a sumptuous meal. Mr Seneng also prepared some spice packs for me to bring back to practise my cooking!
The staff was so friendly. The cooking class was in the most beautiful environment. I loved it.
Such an amazing day! This is a small, family run cooking school based at their farm in the rice terraces. The owner and his wife picked us up from Seminyak and drove us all the way to Jatiluwih. It was a long drive (2 hours) but beautiful scenery and worth it for the view and short walk through the rice terraces to their farm. (The walk is easy - down hill and partly shaded). The owner showed his his small organic veggie garden and we picked a few things to use in our cooking. We could watch the men and buffalo working below in the rice terraces. The wife took us for the cooking class and was so friendly and easy-going. The food was amazing and we were given a recipe book so we can try the recipes at home :) Highly recommend.
The cooking class was amazing! So nice and friendly people. Picked our own vegetables and cooked a lot of different Balinese food. It was really nice and we enjoyed it very much. We definitely would recommend it to everyone.
Nice walk, nice harvesting of vegetables, good fun cooking, excellent food and great hosts WHO made us feel very welcome. Can only recommend this cooking class!
Highly recommend this. Our guide and his wife picked us up from the hotel and took us on an amazing cooking adventure. The trek was easy and a lovely walk and the cooking was using fresh organic ingredients. It was all at a great pace with a fantastic local. Thanks.
My wife and I made this booking based on previous reviews and how right they were. The bike ride and cooking class all take place in UNESCO protected rice fields. To be able to cook and then eat (ofcourse) on the side of a small hill overlooking stepped rice pattys all owned by the operator and his wife was amazing. They were extremely friendly, professional and patient. We got to pick everything we used in the cooking from their own organic vegetables and the tour itself is all operated by one family so the money really goes to the locals. Highly recommended!
The cycling tour was great. Wonderful scenery and energetic enough to build up an appetite. We were made to feel very welcome at the farm. The ingredients we picked were all explained. We made 7 dishes with rice, and, of course, Bumbu Bali, the spicy base for everything. All food was fresh and tasty. There was plenty of food for us both. We definitely did not leave hungry. We highly recommend it his experience.
It was a fantastic experience. The short bike ride was fun and the people there were so nice! Cooking with Dewa was great, first we picked the ingredients in their own organic garden and then cooked a full menu. It was great that in the end I got a small booklet with the dishes and a few spices to be able to cook the dishes at home. I can really recommend this cooking class to anyone who would like to learn more about Balinese cuisine and who likes to be at the kitchen themselves! I had a lot of fun!
The whole experience was incredible! We began by trecking along the best rice terraces in Bali and then started the cooking class. All the ingredientes are top quality and you pick them up yourself from the private garden. The views are great and the food is amazing, and so is the cook and her family! Would really recommend this course to anyone looking to live a memborable and different experience in Bali.
We get a pick- up from seminyak with a very nice driver with excellent driving skills (the nephew of the owner). Because it was low season we had a private cooking class. It was really wonderfull! With a great start in the rice fields. The cooking class was great. Made and his wife are excellent chefs and there English is very good! The tell us everyting about the organic products, authentic cooking and recipees. The view and the garden full with vegetables is an extra bonus. We really recommand this class!
Sehr nette balinesische Kochklasse.
This was definately the best day of our holiday!! We were picked up just in time at our hotel, had a comfortable drive to absolutely beautiful ricefields without any other tourists. We walked about 45 minutes through the ricefields and than arrived at the house of our host. There the cooking class started. First we collected all the vegetables fresh from the garden. The teacher speaks very good English and we were lucky we were the only 2 in class. The cooking was fantastic and the taste of the dishes was excellent! You can take all recipies home and in the afternoon we had our drive back to Seminyak. What a great day with so lovely people, definately recommended!
This was an amazing experience...biking through Jatiluwih, seeing different areas of the terraces and farms, picking vegetables from the garden, and of course getting hands-on cooking authentic Balinese dishes! Would highly recommend.
We had a very comfortable drive and wonderful scenic walk. The teacher and his wife was lovely and showed us to cook traditional Balinese food. It was amazing. The location and atmosphere was perfect!
We had such a great time riding the bikes, picking vegetables and cooking the bumbu Bali! We had spent the day before touring the Tegalalang rice fields and the experience was so much better here! The food was so authentic, and Maday and his family made sure everything was perfect! I could not recommend this more!! If you are on the fence, go. You won’t regret it.
Really tasty and unique Bali dishes all cooked amidst a fun family atmosphere on one of the most beautiful spots in Bali.
Great day trip to Made and his family’s cooking school. Door to door service from our villa. We got to enjoy a scenic drive to the rice terraces and then an easy walk through the rice terraces to the cooking school. The recipes were traditional Balinese and delicious!! The hosts were amazing and their set up is very authentic and the onsite facilities were clean. This trip is great for all ages. Good value for money and was a highlight of our trip to Bali for both myself (who loves to cook) and my husband (who rarely cooks)!
We absolutely loved this class. We were picked up at our hotel and dropped off at the door. We opted to walk instead of cycling & really enjoyed that too. The cooking class was first class - we picked our organic vegetables then cooked then. We loved making the Indonesian curry paste - not too hot and full of flavour. Plenty to eat too. Yummy We stopped off at coffee & herbal tea plantation then a organic chocolate factory on the way home.
Cannot rate this cooking class high enough ! Amazing location , and really tasty dishes !! The cycling was fantastic the top quality bikes in excellent condition and incredible views ! ( all downhill too ) ! The cooking was excellent , picking the ingredients of the garden , really getting stuck in to cook them Together and taking home the recipe afterwords to practise at home ! The food tasted fresh and phenomenal and the hosts were super friendly , kind and incitive ! I learnt a lot and had a really great time ! Thanks so much for the wonderful experience!!
Wonderful experience.
The whole cooking class was well taken care of and the food was absolutely wonderful. Would recommend this cooking class to everyone!!
Made and his family have a very professional setup for cooking. It was so tranquil amongst the rice terraces. We selected and picked from his garden, prepared amazing food and finished with banana fritters and coffee ( he grows and grinds from home) A truly wonderful experience with amazing authentic food, I highly recommend this cooking class, outstanding!!
So so glad we did this! Made picked us up promptly at our hotel in Ubud and drove us to the rice terraces where we walked for ~30 minutes to the site of the cooking class. He let us pick vegetables that we would use in the class from his organic garden and then walked us through each recipe step by step. Together we cooked up an absolutely delicious meal and he even provided us with a recipe book and some spices so that we can try the recipes at home. Made and his family were amazing hosts and we really enjoyed learning about the area from him! The entire class was extremely well organized and everything ran very smoothly from start to finish. We would 100% recommend this experience to anyone looking for a special and unique cooking class in the heart of the Jatiluwih terraces!
This is a great experience to add to your trip to Ubud! From the pick up service to the cooking, everything was amazing! Made & his family are the nicest people, they will tell you all about the Balinese culture, the rice fields & the fruits/veggies they grow. The location is stunning: looking over the rice fields, and the food super yummy! It is a great way to learn what makes Balinese cuisine so tasty. And most ingredients come from his organic garden, which you will pick yourself. The little plus: the spices you get at the end so you can recreate the dishes you learnt back home! Terima kasih Made!
We had the best time at our cycling and cooking class at the Kubu Terrace, Jutiluwih Rice fields cooking class! Made and his wife and mother in law were perfect hosts! From pick up to drop off everything was perfect! The cycle with Made’s cousin was amazing! Not too challenging and we were able to soak up the views and stop for photos! We picked the vegetables from his little organic farm and used them in our cooking. The food we cooked was amazing and will be really simple to recreate at home. One of the highlights of our trip to Bali! Thanks Made and Family!!
From start to finish, this experience was a highlight of our visit to Bali. Seamless hotel transfers, along with the cycling, picking fresh ingredients and cooking were great. The kitchen was clean, the hosts brilliant and the food delicious. Thank you for your hospitality.
I had the most amazing experience at this cooking class! I was collected from my hotel in Canggu in the morning and taken to the rice terrace where I met my cycling guide and we cycled through a beautiful quiet route for about an hour where there were plenty of opportunities to stop for photos. Some of the cycling track was a little slippy and steep but fine for confident cyclists. I then attended the cooking class at Kubu terrace and was greeted by the friendliest hosts who made me feel so welcome. In the class we picked the ingredients fresh from the garden and made everything from scratch. It was all delicious and enjoyed in the most beautiful setting overlooking the rice field. I couldn’t recommend this class enough - it was so authentic and worth every penny! Thank you Made Seneng and family for making it so memorable!
My partner and I absolutely loved the experience of driving through the more remote areas of Bali to get to our cooking class in Jutilwih. It was amazing to see the traditional homes and architecture, as well as the lush, abundant forests. We had the pleasure of walking through the rice fields for around 30 minutes, which brought with it picturesque scenery! Following this our instructor Made showed us around the homestead including his ingenious beehive, fruit trees and vegetable beds. We went through and harvested the fresh produce we went on to use during our class. We cooked a variety of traditional meals including a delicious dessert. Would absolutely recommend this experience for anybody looking for an authentic, traditional experience!
This cooking class was well organised. The short trek to Made's place allowed us to know more about the rice terrace agriculture. The cooking class was fun and enriching as well! Allowing us to get a hands-on experience in getting the ingredients on the field was definitely awesome!
We were looking for something a bit different when it came to a cooking class. We didn’t want to be part of a crowded class, we wanted to experience the cooking from start to end. Made took is in where we picked our own fresh veggies/herbs for the day. It honestly was a fantastic experience and well worth the money. It has been one of the best experiences on our trip to Bali so far.
Great class dewi was informative class was well organised and structured Nice location
I had one of the most beautiful cooking lessons of my life. Good food, nice and very kind people, magnificent panorama.
We had a great time from start to end. The short trek to Made’s place was very pleasand and the surrounding area is simply beautiful. The food is well balanced and more than enough. We are not experienced cooks but Made and his wife guided us the entire time and made the experience more fun. Highly recommended tour to include in your Bali trip.
Thanks to Made and the beautiful location, this class was one of the best classes I ever did. Picking your own vegetables, enjoying the wonderful view on the rice terraces and the nice atmosphere; this has everything. The menu that is offered is very original and offers some authentic dishes. If you like cooking, nature and a friendly chef this class is a dream come true!
One of my favorite parts of my time in Ubud. My husband and I booked the cooking class, as we both love to cook. However, the experience went beyond a cooking class. We got to experience the culture first hand - learning about the daily life of a local, discovering new vegetables and herbs, and exploring the natural approach that local Balinese have for their cooking. The tour started with a wonderful trek (not difficult at all) to the farm and outdoor kitchen. From there, we explored the menu, traveled the farm, picked out veggies and herbs, and got right to it. We made everything from fresh coconut milk, to satays, to curry, to handmade peanut sauce with fresh peanuts! There was a certain zen to being out there in the farm cooking with such a natural approach. The meals were delicious, we learned so much, and felt so welcome by our hosts. 100% worth the trip out there, the time and the price. I'd highly recommend it!
One of the best experiences I have had in Bali. It gave us the opportunity to see the "true" Bali. The hosts gave us an opportunity to see where they lived, how they managed to sustain themselves, then showed us exactly how to cook in their style. Learned different food skills which I will definitely use in the future in our return home. Cannot fault this experience and would tell anyone who is considering doing this to not hesitate and book.
This was a really special experience as alongside learning how to cook and eat some of Indonesia's favourite dishes, you saw first hand how a working rice farm works. Located in the beautiful UNESCO Jatiluwih rice fields, the cooking hut overlooks the family's ancestral rice paddocks. You will see how the community works together to share resources, and traditional methods of farming and living in Bali. You will take a lovely walk through the rice fields on an accessible, paved track with Wayan, head of the family, who is extremely passionate about sharing his heritage. The cooking lesson is extensive, starting with gathering produce from the garden. The 3-course lunch you will cook together teaches you why and how cooking has evolved in Indonesia. Lunch is served over-looming the working rice paddies. The transfer was in a clean vehicle taking in the most scenic route. The driver was Maday's nephew. Everything is supported and shared by the family. The day is suitable for all ages and abilities. It's delivered with a lot of laughs and kindness.
We were staying in Jimbaran and it has been our favorite experience so far! Very kind, genuine people, tasty food, and beautiful scenery!
It was a fun, engaging and educational cooking class overlooking the paddy rice field. My kids had so much fun cooking and the dishes are so yummy. The host indeed was patient and shared with us. Veggie cooked were from the farm that we pluck them out. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
My teenage kids and I had a fantastic cooking experience with Made. After a beautiful 30 minute trek through UNESCO world heritage paddy fields, we arrived at Made’s self built cookery school. Everything was prepared perfectly for a real hands on experience. Firstly we picked a variety of organic home grown veggies including bak choy, wild spinach, chilli, lemongrass, turmeric, galangal, moringa etc. We then made up our own Balinese spice paste - that was to be the base flavour of a number of dishes. We cooked chicken sate with a mind blowing Balinese roasted peanut sauce, chicken coconut curry ( squeezing our own fresh coconut milk), steamed chicken dumplings, moringa soup, organic vegetable and coconut stir fry - all served with Made’s home grown organic red rice. We made everything from scratch and Made and his wife were perfect teachers and hosts. I am an experienced cook but I learned so much from this course. I highly recommend it, for the cooking, the beautiful scenery and the wonderful company of this local entrepreneur and his family. Liza Micah and Maia
While booking we selected what looked most authentic. The reality was a great Balinese kitchen and atmosphere. It was more than worth the drive to Jatiluwih. Made (our cooking instructor) and his wife deserve great compliments for the very serious and honest way in which they taught us the tips and tricks. Bumbu Bali will be part of our kitchen forever. Picking the most fresh vegetables and roots from the garden gave an extra touch. Made has taken a place in our cooking hearts. His cooking class deserves to be fully booked!!
We were picked up from our hotel and taken to some amazing scenery, picked most of the ingredients straight from the garden and cooked a beautiful meal. A wonderful experience and would highly recommend it!
Me and my Husband had the most awesome experience! It started off with the Host, Madè, picking us up from our hotel. He was on time and very friendly. Chatting with us through the hour and a half journey from Kuta to his place at Kubu Terrace. Once we were there, we did an easy 30 min down hill trek and got to see the beautiful landscape of this UNESCO World Heritage site. The trek would end at the outdoor eating place/kitchen area where we did our cooking. We picked the fresh organic vegetables straight from Madè’s garden and proceeded on to cook a 6-course authentic Balinese meal under the guidance and assistance from Madè and his Wife. The meal was super tasty, and I dare say it was the best meal we had in Bali so far. The hospitality displayed from them made us feel right at home. Would recommend this itenarary to anyone who’s looking for a break from the busy city life. It was an afternoon well spent!
This cooking class was really an amazing experience. We were picked up at our hotel and were taken to the Jatiluwah Rice Terrace. From there on we went for a walk through the terraces to the Kubu Terraces Warung, where the course took place. It was an easy walk, definitely not demanding. But still it wouldn't be a problem to go by car if needed as we were told. The cooking class itself started in the organic garden, where we were shown most of the ingredients and we picked them up - all fresh and bio. The cooking itself wasn't too demanding - don't be scared to go if you are a beginner. And the result was amazing! We cooked a soup, a salad, some curry, two types of skewers, steamed dumplings, the base paste, sambal and fried bananas as a delicious desert. After the course the driver took us to his village, that was very sweet as well and we enjoyed it very much. Overall - a must have Bali experience!
The best cooking class I have experienced in Bali! After a mix up in booking dates on my behalf, Made, our host and chef, was incredibly accommodating in ensuring we were still able to have the best experience possible, despite an early morning mix up. The location was phenomenal, with an even better menu! The experience of handing picking our own ingredients, along with all the knowledge Made had to share with us along the way allowed us to have a highly enjoyable day. Couldn't recommend enough!
We were pleasantly surprised at the cool weather because of the slightly higher altitude, so our 40min trek to Kubu Terrace was a breeze. Kubu Terrace is located within Jatiluwih which is the UNESCO heritage rice fields. So you get to check sightseeing off your list as well as cooking! Made, our guide and chef, was really attentive to detail and he was very helpful right from the pick-up from our hotel to the kitchen! We’ve learnt so much about the culture of Bali, and why certain ingredients were used for the dishes. Plus, every ingredient was taken from his garden, and we helped pick them. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a local experience. Made is sincere and honest in his craft.
It started with a long walk through the countryside with chef Madé to get to his outdoor kitchen. He taught us about the trees, plants, crops, and nearby villages as we walked through the breathtaking landscapes of the countryside of natural Bali and its beautiful rice fields. He showed us some edible plants/fruit along the way. Once we arrived his wife Dewyk assisted, we were able to pick fresh veggies from his organic garden (he even took photos of us with my phone as we did so and they turned out great!). We successfully made a several course meal as he explained all of the herbs, veggies and where everything came from. He encouraged us to take in the aromas many times, we tried cocao fruit and mangosteens. Everything, from his land to his demeanor, was truly wonderful. I searched high and low for a good cooking class and I’m SO glad we ended up choosing Kubu Terrace. A truly sensational experience for all ages.
The experience was 100% worth the 1.5hr drive to the location. Although we had a long drive the views going up there were great and we were also able to see all the different cultured villages with great views. When we arrived at Jatiluwih we walked down a track to the cooking class location which took about 30/40mins (easy walk) through all the paddy fields and all the amazing wild life around us. The location of the cooking class took our breath away, the family that run it were very friendly and welcoming and were able to answer all our questions about their culture and the area we were in. The cooking was a great experience, we picked our own food from their vegetable patch and it tasted great. Would recommened to anyone!!
We had a great day with Made & Dewi at the cooking class! Chanced upon Kubu Terrace Jatiluwih Cooking Class on Cookly, and we have to say, this was the highlight of our trip! It was well worth the money we paid and the 1.5hr car ride to & from Jatiluwih. Following the car ride, we took a 30mins stroll to the cooking school, with a view of rice terrace and a personal garden to pick fresh organic ingredients for the class. Sweetest vegetables I’ve ever tasted! Made created a cosy and homely environment for his visitors and gave us the time and space to cook at our own pace. I am very impressed with his passion to bring his hometown, Jatiluwih to the world. Highly recommended, tell everyone you know!😄
This was the best thing we have done in Bali so far. The experience was exactly as described and better. Being able to walk through rice paddies and then pick vegetables from the organic garden made us feel more appreciative of the food we were cooking. The dishes we made were delicious and our host was friendly and informative from picking us up at the hotel and pointing out areas of interest along the way to showing us what each plant was and the different uses for them when we were in the garden. Would highly recommend this cooking class with a difference!
It was a fantastic experience. Happy and his wife were very friendly. The trekking was beautiful and the garden was perfect! It was amazing to get everything from the garden to cook. The food was very nice and the menu good. Absolutely a wonderful experience!! Can recommend it to anyone who wants a feel for a Balinese kitchen:-)
