The directions that were sent through Cookly were misleading and unclear. We arrived 1/2 hour late because of that. Please make sure you update those in the future
The cooking class was amazing. Lupita was our teacher and she had a few friends helping as well. The class was well organized with plenty of food to eat and drink. We made guacamole, salsa, and tacos with pork and chicken. It seriously tasted so fresh and delicious. Lupita emailed me the recipes we used, can’t wait to try this at home!!
What an awesome time learning sooo many new recipes! We loved being in her home with her company.
I recently had the pleasure of attending an authentic Mexican cooking class, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From start to finish, the experience exceeded my expectations and left me with a newfound appreciation for the vibrant and rich flavors of Mexican cuisine. First and foremost, the instructor was fantastic. Her passion for Mexican cooking was contagious, and she created a warm and welcoming environment for everyone in the class. She was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also patient and attentive, ensuring that each participant felt comfortable and engaged throughout the session. Overall, my authentic Mexican cooking class was an exceptional experience that I wholeheartedly recommend. Whether you're a seasoned cook or a complete beginner, this class offers a wonderful opportunity to dive into the world of Mexican cuisine and learn from passionate experts. Prepare to be amazed by the flavors, captivated by the stories, and inspired to bring a taste of Mexico into your own kitchen. It truly deserves a resounding five-star rating!
Lily welcomed us into her beautiful home to show us how to cook authentic mexican food, and everything about the experience was amazing! The food was delicious, and lily gave wonderful explanations and demonstrations of everything too, complete with great music. 10/10 would recommend. She made us feel like family!
I wish I could rate this more than 5 stars! My husband and I had the best time doing this cooking class. Lily was warm and welcoming, and we learnt so much about Mexican food. We enjoyed getting our hands dirty and making tortillas. We were so full afterwards, stuffing ourselves with the tacos, quesadillas and salsas that we made.
It was a great cooking class. We felt like home when we arrived and we cooked the best mexican food. We would totally do it again when we go back. We highly recommend this class.
Eric was not only an amazing host but incredible cook! We wanted to experience authentic techniques and recipes that we could take home and do ourselves, and we certainly got that. It was the best food we have had in mexico in ten days visiting, so fresh flavoursome and yet so simple. I cant wait to try when we get home and cant thank Eric enough!! A must do in Tulum!!!
From the first moment we arrived at Lily's house, we were welcomed as if we were family. What Lily offers is not just a cooking class, it's a total immersion in her story. Recipes from her childhood with her mother and grandmother to the story surrounding some of the most authentic dishes of Mexican and Mayan cuisine, Lily is an inspiration and we haven’t seen the time passed as it was so captivating! Whether it was by learning how to make handmade tortilla, tasting mezcal the traditional way or all the wonderful dishes we've cooked, our experience was perfect. All the dishes were so tasty, we can’t wait to redo them at home to remind us of this unforgettable moment! We also fell in love with Canello, the rescue dog of Lily who is a true fan of quesadilla;)! If you want to taste real Mexican food and live an authentic culinary moment, you must definitely take Lily's cooking class.
I went with my husband to learn some simple Mexican recipes we could take back to Europe. Lily and her family were really welcoming and we had an enjoyable evening. Lily explained about Mexican ingredients and cooking styles in a knowledgable yet fun style. We would really recommend to anyone.
Lily and her family were gracious, welcoming, and wonderful hosts. Lily was funny and humble. She took the time to go through the historical background of everything that was made and every ingredient we used. Her son Alex and his girlfriend Paola were super nice and welcoming as well. Lily chose a menu that would be easily recreatable back home and she promised to email all recipes and even Skype is if something didn't make sense. Amazing hospitality!
Most classes in Tulum focus on traditional Mayan and Yucatecan staples such as cochinita pibil, tlayudas, quesadillas with huitlacoche, fresh seafood ceviche, and homemade masa for tortillas. You’ll also learn how to make classic sauces like salsa verde and achiote paste.
Yes! Many schools combine a guided tour of the local market with a hands‑on cooking session. You’ll buy fresh ingredients like papaya, pineapple, and heirloom corn, then use them to create dishes that have been passed down through generations.
Absolutely. Instructors can adapt recipes—use corn or rice tortillas instead of wheat, swap coconut milk for dairy, and incorporate a wide range of plant‑based proteins such as tempeh or jackfruit to keep the experience inclusive.
Classes usually run from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the menu. Group sizes are kept small—between 6 and 12 participants—to allow for personalized instruction and plenty of hands‑on practice.
Most chefs in Tulum expect you to keep your shoes, but they’ll provide comfortable slippers or recommend easily cleanable footwear. Respect the local custom of speaking softly during prep, and always wash your hands before handling food.
In the winter you can try mole rojo or pozole with pumpkin, while spring classes often feature fresh cacao desserts, mango and pineapple salsas, or spring‑harvest tamales. Some schools even align lessons with local holidays like the Day of the Dead, where you’ll learn to make sugar‑skulls and traditional offerings.
They’re perfect for all. Solo travelers can use the opportunity to meet fellow foodies; couples can enjoy a romantic hands‑on experience, and families with kids benefit from the interactive, sensory nature of the classes. Bring a reusable water bottle and a light snack if you’re traveling with children.
Participants often discover the secret to a perfect achiote paste, share stories about ancient Mayan cooking techniques, and end the session by enjoying a communal feast under the Tulum jungle canopy or by the beach—something you rarely find in a conventional culinary school.
