Nyoman,was full of knowledge and passionate about passing on his cooking skills and the importance of cooking fresh food for the future generations without MSG... Also gave us an insight of balinese culture and family living, would highly recommend his class

My husband and I had a wonderful time. it was only 2 of us - we got lucky with numbers so we had a whole private market & teaching experience. We did the actual prep and cooking under close instructions which made it a lot of fun. We certainly feel like we earned our certificates. The Chef, who was also the market guide, was very lovely, friendly and very knowledgeable. We were taught a lot more about just the food, learnt a lot about the day to day and centuries old cultures of balinese living. We've done a few teaching courses in various countries but this is where we learnt the most and learnt more than just about the food. We highly recommend it! Petting brownie, the dog and all the cute cats was a bonus too.

Nyoman was very helpful, full of Jokes, and gave very helpful tips. Emmy's boyfriend and I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. 🫶🏽

When I booked this class for myself, daughter and husband, my husband was hesitant. Our driver picked us up early and was amazing as we were in a difficult to find location. We met the chef, Nyoman, at the markets and he gave us a tour. He was very informative and knowledgeable. He then welcomed us into his family compound and home where his aunties were preparing the food for the cooking class. His family's home was very beautiful and had lovely gardens. The cooking class was so much fun we cooked several dishes and there was so much food that we could not finish it all. The cooking class also easily catered for my daughter who is vegan. My husband said he really enjoyed the experience and wanted to do it again. Altogether it was an awesome fun thing to do. We wish Nyoman and his family all the best luck for the future.

Amazing!!!! Everything was so fantastic, I never thought cooking could be so much fun. The whole experience was so great, the food, the atmosphere, our wonderful teacher Nyoman and his village. The class is held in his home surrounded by his 42 family members. Nyoman not only taught us traditional Balinese cooking but taught us about the Balinese culture, the health benefits of the fruit and vegetables and the balance of life. Nyoman’s uncle ‘Wayan’ was also a wealth of knowledge, he taught us the zen of life. I would have to say in all the years I have been coming to Bali, this cooking class was the best thing I have done, I loved every minute of it, this class needs to be on everyone’s ‘To do list’.

Learnt a lot about foods and also recycling in Bali. The teacher was lots of fun and what we cooked was delicious.

I loved this class...I've had a great vacation, but this just may be my favorite part. The tour is part of the family's business and the class is held right in the traditional family kitchen. They are wonderful, warm, and welcoming. You learn all the "top secret" ingredients and recipes for delicious Balinese foods!

The market tour was so good, we had a little history lesson and played guess the fruit and vegetables, durian is still yukki but each to their own. We then went to the farm/home and played with the animals, 5 very cute buggies and many more. After that we then went to the kitchen where the aunties were prepping the food we would've cooking and learning about, we talked and leant about all the wonderful properties and uses of the spices and ingredients we were going to use and tasted some of their home grown roasted and brewed coffee. We made 5 different traditional dishes with great instruction and laughter with our guide, I would recommend this to anyone who likes food and is interested in learning about how to make it all when you get home.

This was definately one of our best experience in Bali ! An amazing teacher who explains every single one aspect of the traditional balinese food cooking ! If you're looking for a complete immersion, go for it !

This class was AMAZING. The chef took us around the market and explained so many things to us. The culture, how the food is prepared, the roles for men and women in the family. There were 4 of us in the class but I think it is up to 12 people. We went to a house and cooked amazing traditional food and the chef was so informative. This is a must and highlight of my trip!

Great to be welcomed into a family house and be shared stories and recipes from the family.

On top of the cooking itself, the instructor also introduces us the wider usage of the herbs, Balinese eating habits and cultures.

What a wonderful experience to visit local markets and then be made to feel at home in a traditional Balinese home where we learnt to cook a meal. We also learnt about how foods heal us and many things about Balinese cooking traditions

What a fantastic experience. If you want gain some insight into the Balinese culture sign up for this class. You will go to the market and see the traditional Balinese dishes and than back to the family home where you learn how a Balinese family extended family live. This was a wonderful insight into the Balinese way of life. The food was delicious and so much that my husband and I were unable to eat all of what we cooked. I highly recommend this cooking class, The interaction from our teacher and other family members really made my husband and I welcome. We will attend another class with this school the next time we return to Bali, If your signing up for a class do this one you will not be disappointed. I had so much fun in this class! A driver picked me up and drove me to the market where I met Nyoman who did the cooking class for me. I did an afternoon class and part of the market had closed by then, but he showed me individual vendors and their carts and explained what they were selling and it was very informative. I loved it. We then went to his family home and they have a section set up to do the cooking classes. What they have created is beautiful! A huge outside kitchen, totally organized and ready for class. I met his Auntie and Ma and they helped prep food and clean up. I made about 7 dishes and they were all delicious and they looked pretty. I was very full after only a few bites, (the heat and humidity took away my appetite), so Auntie and Ma wrapped my food up so I could take it back to my hotel. The amazing thing about my experience is that I was the only one in the class. Because it's the slow season, it was just me, but KDongDing Cooking Class treated me as if I was a class of 12. They showed me everything and had me cook everything as if I was in a full class. I was very impressed. You will make the Mother Sauce, drink yummy coffee, and eat the food you make. You will also learn about their traditions. I was impressed and touched by how much family means to them. The class wasn't expensive, check it out. (I forgot to tip the driver, it was raining and I was flustered and it slipped my mind. Please tip him for me and I'll pay it forward from my end. Thanks!)

From visting the market to eating our creations the whole experience exceeded our expectations. We learnt so much from Nyoman, very informative tour of the local market, shared his exceptional knowledge of the ingredients and the health benefits and then fun cooking class with his Aunt as assistant. The location which his family have been sharing for over 200 years was an amazing space, they literally grow most of the vegetables there. Highly recommended.

Ever wonder how life is behind those walls with all the small temples? You will experience it here. The family is here for generations. 42 people from the same family. Aunties help and you will see first hand how it all works. And get an excellent meal with an entertaining Mr. Black chef. I can't recommend it enough!

Highly recommend Mr Blacks cooking class at their beautiful traditional family home! Very informative and enjoyable evening where you also get an insight the how a traditional Balinese family lives and world together.

It was really an awesome experience. We are still deeply impressed by all the information we got and by the nice and familiar atmosphere the cooking class took place. We appreciated very much that Nyoman Mahendra shared his house with us and let us know so much about Indonesian culture, family life, market life etc. To join his class is a really 'must do'. And we are looking forward to cooking his recipes very soon at home.

We had such an amazing day! The enthusiasm of the chef put a smile on everyone’s face. The inside peak into a real Balinese family’s home was definitely something else. An unexpected, beautiful addition to the cooking class. And OMG the food was so tasty! Easy to prepare and very well explained. We even know all the health benefits to the ingredients now :). Nyoman is one of the most caring, charismatic people I've ever met - bringing us to their home was an experience I'll never forget and really added to the day. I learned so much about Balinese tradition and felt ingrained for a couple hours. The coffee they grow on their land is SO GOOD and the class was a good pace with delicious food and smells. The trip to the market was eye-opening as well, very much not touristy. Thank you for an amazing day K'DongDing! One small hang up: I had signed up for a Monday morning class and they mistakenly thought I'd signed for the afternoon so I had to call at 8:40a asking about my pickup. I was very annoyed but scheduled for the next morning and am so glad I stuck with it! Couldn't have asked for a better experience

This cooking class was the best day we had in Ubud!!! Such an incredible time with so much positivity and inclusion of sharing cultures. We were blown away by the skills of the chef and how we were able to create such an aesthetic and delicious meal together! cannot recommend enough!!

What an amazing experience!! We were lucky enough to have the class to ourselves and did not expect the fantastic afternoon we got!! Starting with the tour around the night market to the tour around their family compound. We felt welcomed by everyone in the family with open arms!! The setting is incredible and the tour around the gardens seeing how much produce they grow is just fab!! The cooking class was so much fun and we learnt so many secret skills we will be using back at home!! The entire afternoon was filled with laughter, amazing food, and an abundance of Balinese culture and history. Got to cook some of my favorite Bali delights!!!! Highly skilled and knowledgeable chef!!!! Looking to continue my culinary experience next time I’m back!!! Definitely Recommend it!!!

I got picked up from my hotel and the driver took me straight to the market where I met my instructor. I was the only student for that day. He showed me around before we went to his compound where he was giving the cooking class. He explained to me the different ingredients before I started cooking supported with his knowledge and tips!

This class let us experience local and hands-on Balinese cooking. Our day started in the morning with a local tour to Payangan market. The weather was really nice at that time so we really enjoyed the breeze and the outdoor. We got to pick our own ingredients that were need for our dish selection. Then we went straight to the kitchen and we watch and recreated the dish hands-on. While teaching us how to cook, our chef also discussed about the history of each dish, Indonesian culture and the background of Balinese cuisines. From the market tour to the distribution of certificates, all activities were organized properly.

It is nice to learn about cooking with local people in their traditional house. The instructor is really hospitable and even prepare us nice coffee and snacks before our cooking session, and we totally made five dishes on nice cut banana leaves. I cannot believe that cooking can be this fun and I can make such flavourful food.

I had an awesome experience in this cooking class. The instructor is friendly, welcoming, and more than happy to share Balinese culture and cooking with you. The food is amazing - but honestly, this is so much more than a cooking class. I learned so much about the Balinese culture and traditions, and having the class right in a family home made it that much more special. I highly recommend. It will be very memorable.

We visited a regional market and the cook taught us about their culture. Then we went to his home and he showed us the garden and all the vegetables. We cooked a menu with salad, soup, main dishes and pancakes. It was amazing!

We really enjoyed the cooking class! First we went to a market and then to his house, he showed us his house and told us a lot about Indonesia. We really recommend this!

Our cooking class was such a great experience. Besides the market visit and the actual cooking class, we learned a lot about the Balinese culture, like family and living aspects. The cooking class itself was very informative and super fun! The team was very open and friendly and we got the recipe so that we can cook the meal also at home :-) They helped us with every step of the meal and we did everything on our own. I couldn’t recommend this class enough, our cooking teacher, Nyoman was absolutely amazing. The whole experience was really insightful and the fact that it was set in his family home was a really great extra touch. I had so much fun, learnt a lot about the culture and the food was amazing. Must do it it in Bali, one of my trip highlights.

It was such a nice experience. We got to visit the market, know the family and Balinese customsm and of course the fresh and yummy dishes :)

The food we cooked was really delicious and Nyoman was really good. It was more than just a cooking, we leant a lot about Balineese culture as well.

We cooked in a family home. Our "teacher" explained everything about their lifestyle and showed us around the town market. Everything was so clear and easy and entertaining. He was so happy to share his culture with is. We got some sweets and coffee before the actual cooking class and food. It was a wonderful experience. I cooked as instructed and my meal ended up being the best I had in my whole time in Indonesia.

The host and their family were extremely welcoming. We learnt a lot both about the food and Balinese culture. Worth the money and would recommend to others!

I took the class expecting to only learn about food, but Chef Nyoman went above and beyond to also teach me about his family and compound. It was great to be able to visit and cook in his home, as it really makes the experience more local.

I not only learned abour the delicious balinese cuisine with Nyoman, but he also showed me so many amazing things about Ubud's values and culture. Very recommended!

It was so interesting and nice that before the cooking the cook has showed us around a traditional Balinese market and has explained us everything. Also all our questions were answered. Afterwards we got to his family house and he also explained us there everything. Then the cooking class started and each step were easily explained so that we had a delicious meal at the end. We could only recommend that cooking class.

It was an awesome experience including local market tour and learning about fresh herbs for Balinese food. The cooking teacher speaks English very well and having a lot of experiences as a chef in the world as well. This cooking class made my day! Highly recommended!

This class was absolutely amazing! The guide was super friendly and taught us a lot about the balinees culture. He did not only know a lot about the culture, but he also taught us about all the herbs and the medical effects. We got to meet his family, since it is a family business run in their own house.

The class was super interesting and I felt really comfortable the whole time. We didn’t only got to know the Balinese kitchen but also gained an authentic and intimate insight into the life of the people here. We cooked at the teacher‘s beautiful traditional house. We got so many tips and Information on the ingredients and how to cook them at home in Europe :) The dishes were delicious! Our teacher always had helpful answers to all our questions and was a nice and funny guy. He also offered us to answer further questions on Facebook etc. when we‘ll come along some at home. So far it was my best experience in Bali, definitely recommend this class! Thank you!!!!

Brilliant class from Nyoman. We were welcomed into his family home where we learnt so much about Balinese family life and culture which was very interesting. We visited a local market where all the produce and market culture was explained to us before the cooking class begun. The cooking class itself was run very, very smoothly and gave an amazing insight to Balinese food and ingredients, the food was brilliant. Thanks so much to Nyoman and his family for an amazing day! It was a plesaure to cook with kdongding! They were so friendly and welcomed us in their family. We learned so much about the Religion, Temple, ingredients of our food and how they live. The english was really good and he knows some vegetables in german. We laughed the whole time it was so fun. And the food was also really good. We would do the cooking class again! The instructor was very good and explained everything thoroughly. It was all hands on not standing around watching him cooking. He took us to the market and explained all the vegetables etc and then we we to his family home where he explained his family dynamics and their day to day way of life. I would definitely do this class again and highly recommend it

It was one of the best parts of my trip to Bali. I learned about so many different fruits and vegetables that I had never heard of and cooked with them as well. I learned so much about Balinese cuisine and culture that I am taking a second class before I leave Bali. An experience not to be missed

A wonderful experience that started with being picked up and taken through and enjoyable market tour that was very interesting. This was followed by being warmly welcomed in to Nyoman's home where we learned about family life in Bali, which was truly fascinating. Following this was the cooking, which was well-organised with clear demonstrations, as well as being a lot of fun. Informative conversations continued while eating the delicious food we cooked, and return transport to accommodation - a service not offered by many cooking experiences - conveniently ended an experience I thoroughly recommend to anyone. So amazing to learn about Balinese culture, family dynamics, local market shopping, local delicacies and simplified way to cook Balinese cuisine. We ate what we made and so delicious. An excellent cooking class and Chef Nyoman was very informative and an amazing teacher.

The teacher was so informative and we got so much more than a cooking lesson. I’ve been to Bali many times but have never learnt so much about the Bali way of life. He welcomed us into his home and we really had a wonderful experience. I brought my 8 year old son who loved it and the teacher was very kind and took the time to teach my son.

Very happy I took this class. The instructor and his cousin were excellent. Everything was well explained and every step of the recipe was hands on. Very educational tour of the market and the family compound. Nyoman is well travelled and can explain alternate ingredients to find where you live.

This was an amazing experience and we can't recommend it enough. The tour of the market was really interesting and much better than others we have done in Thailand. When we arrived at the family compound we were shown around and introduced to some of the family. We got to sample some of the family's coffee and homemade Balinese cakes. The cooking was great, we each had our own station and made every dish before sitting down to a delicious lunch. This is so much more than just a cooking class, it's an insight into the life of a local Balinese family.

It was just wonderful - we had a really good & funny time during the class. And the food was amazing! This is a MUST DO when you're visiting Bali. Thanks to the KDongding Crew and the whole family, they are all so friendly.
