Maria's Cooking Class Bali

Maria met us at our hotel and we went to the local market together first where she showed us various foods and explained what dishes they are used in. We then walked to her home nearby and we helped her to make four beautiful dishes and she explained the process in detail and she taught us the importance of having the right balance of spices and ingredients for each particular dish, also how each sauce can be used with any meat, fish or vegetables depending on preference. We sat together and ate from the dishes we had prepared afterwards. It was a delightful intimate experience with a beautiful older lady full of knowledge and skill.

Cooking class gave great insights into the Indonesian culture. Maria was both informative and polite. Indonesian cooking is about balance and subtlety. We will certainly use this knowledge in our daily life.

I had such an amazing experience taking Maria’s cooking class in Bali. She was incredibly welcoming, kind, and extremely accommodating. I went solo and immediately felt at home—it was such a personable and cool experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and Maria’s teaching style was easy to follow. I love that she provided her recipes so I could take them home with me and recreate the dishes. And the market visit was a cherry on top to learn more about common ingredients that go into Balinese cuisine! This class was definitely a highlight of my trip, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and heartfelt cooking experience in Bali!

Maria was the kindest best cook and teacher. Bali is full of tourist traps but this is the real deal.

Maria is such a warm Person and it was so much fun to meet her. We hab a great day on the market and in the kitchen. The dishes were all so delicious, and she explained to us in such a wonderful and detailed way how they were made, so that we can cook them at home as well. Thank you very much! 🙏

Going through the markets with Maria was an experience! Seeing how the locals buy all their produce was so informative and Maria bought bits and pieces for us to taste test back at her home. Her cooking knowledge was unbelievable and she is so sweet and patient. We cooked in her room with a small kitchen but the food tastes incredible!! I’ll be going home to put my new skills to work. Highly recommend for a traditional and authentic look into Balinese life. Maria is such a beautiful lady!

What a lovely day we had at Maria's place learning about all the different spices and how using different ones with your basic base set of spices changes the flavour. Maria is very patient and I recommend anyone to take her cooking class

Maria is such a sweet, kind and knowledgeable person. She taught us how to make the dishes of our choice. She is a great cook. The class took place at her home, so it was a great way to get a real insight into local life. I walked away from the class with a lot more knowledge about local culture and cuisine. Maria was very welcoming. She met us at our hotel and from there we went to the market where she showed us around and educated us as to produce we were unfamiliar with. We went to her humble home were we made 5 different dishes that we had chosen in advance. Everything we made was delicious.

I did the cooking class alone, so I was able to talk with Maria about cooking and life in general, which was really enjoyable. You get to choose 4 dishes among at least 40, and this is unique for the other cooking classes impose their own very classic menu ! Plenty of authentic dishes from Bali, Sumatra, Java etc etc. And you'll get to know the incredible Maria who'll taught you plenty of Indonesian cuisine secrets ! The best cooking class I've had so far !

Maria took us on a tour of the fresh markets in Kuta and then invited us into her home to show us her craft of cooking. If you’re chasing authentic Indonesian home cooking then Maria is the lady to see. I tasted some of the best Indo food I’ve ever tasted!! Thank you Maria Andy and Brooke Ranford.

Enjoyed being with Maria as she had lots of knowledge to share - was in her own home shopping at her local market. The beef rendang was delicious and I'll be trying when back home!

Maria was such a delight. I did this class alone and it was even more enjoyable than doing a bit group class. I was able to chat with Maria, ask as many questions as I wanted.. I learnt so much and ate so many amazing, delicious, dishes I couldn’t have asked for a better activity.

What I liked was that you got to choose the dishes you wanted to cook! I also enjoyed the market tour with Maria before the class quite an eye opener seeing ingredients I hadn’t seen before . You also got to take home recipes.

I hesitated to do another cooking class whilst overseas, but this class was like no other. Maria is the most beautiful soul and an excellent cook. Welcoming me into her home was amazing and humbling. The dishes we made were delicious and I learnt so much from her and will cherish these memories. Maria personally picked us up from our hotel. Afterwards, we went shopping together at the local market and then went to her house. Under her expert guidance, we cooked four dishes of our choosing. We were able to choose from a total of 40 recipes. We learned a lot, and since we received the recipes from her, we will definitely try them out at home. Maria is a friendly and humorous woman. Maria met us personally at our hotel, market tour where she showed us the many different products and how they can be used before we headed back to her place for a very intimate and personal cooking lesson, we made 4-5 different dishes and had we not had another appointment the “class” which felt more like a day out with a new friend would have gone on into the evening. Maria is lovely, likes to get to know her guests and we felt very humbled and privileged to have been with her for the time. Highly recommended… allow for more time!

We started with a market visit, well off the tourist spots. Maria showed us all the ingredients she’d be using and a few different things we don’t see at home. Then it was back to Maria’s home for the cooking class. We were able to choose all our own dishes and Maria walked us through every step. The food was amazing and we were sent home with around 40 recipes to try at home. Maria was very helpful and friendly and had great English skills. We’d recommend her to anybody looking to learn local recipes.

Lovely time with Maria. She taught me the basics of Indonesian cooking in her basic home amongst the rice paddy fields. I learn how to Make different spice mixes for four meals and once cooked we enjoyed eating together. Memorable day thank you Maria
