We’re from Austin and booked the Shared Bologna’s Beloved class while visiting Bologna. It was genuinely a 12/10 experience and, of everything we did during our trip, this was the thing we would recommend first. The setting is incredibly beautiful. The class takes place in a villa nestled on top of the hills outside Bologna, surrounded by countryside, so it feels like a proper escape from the city rather than just another cooking school. Getting there was also incredibly easy because they offer free pick-up from the train station, and there is free parking on the estate if you come by car. We started with a little appetiser and drinks on the porch before moving inside to make fresh pasta. The kitchen is lovely and, very importantly in the Bologna summer, air-conditioned. Bianca has everything organised before you arrive, so even somebody with absolutely no cooking experience could do this class. The ingredients are prepared and measured, all the equipment is ready, and she stays with you through every step without ever making it feel overly structured. We made two different types of fresh pasta, including ravioli, and the filling and sauces were honestly incredible. Bianca explains the little details that actually make a difference, so you leave feeling like you could recreate the dishes at home rather than simply having followed instructions for a few hours. Afterwards everyone in the Shared Class sits down together for lunch. There was so much food, and all of it was excellent. They also had plenty of vegetarian dishes, which makes the class a really good choice if not everyone in your group eats meat. At some point during lunch we both said the same thing: if someone asked us, “What is the best cooking class in Bologna?”, the answer would be [Felsina Culinaria](https://felsinaculinaria.com/). It combines the food, the setting and the hospitality in a way that feels much more personal than a standard tourist activity. Bianca and Antonio somehow make the whole experience feel more like being invited into an Italian home than attending a commercial class. There was no pressure to buy anything afterwards either. We had such a good time that we just wanted to leave them a tip. And if someone asked, “What is the best thing to do in Bologna besides eating at restaurants and walking around the centre?”, I would honestly put this at the top of the list. You actually learn something, you spend time in the hills outside the city, and then you sit down with the rest of the class and enjoy everything you have made. For us, this was the best cooking course in Bologna and the best cooking experience we had in Italy. The fresh pasta, traditional Bolognese food, countryside villa, long lunch and the way Bianca and Antonio welcome everyone all make it stand out. We would book the Shared Class again without thinking twice.
I visited Felsina Culinaria with a team of nine colleagues and we joined the Shared Cooking Class during our stay in Bologna. It ended up being one the absolute highlight of our trip. Having experienced it ourselves, I would genuinely describe Felsina Culinaria as the best cooking class in Bologna, especially for anyone looking for an authentic, hands-on fresh pasta experience and an introduction to traditional Bolognese cuisine. The whole experience was incredibly easy from the beginning. Felsina Culinaria is set in the beautiful countryside just outside Bologna, near Castel San Pietro Terme, and transport from the train station was provided for us. It was a perfect way to combine a cooking class with a little escape from the city and see another side of the Bologna area. The countryside setting is gorgeous, peaceful and full of character. Bianca and Antonio welcomed our group of nine very warmly and immediately made the experience feel personal. This is not a cooking demonstration where you simply stand around and watch. Everyone gets involved and actually learns the techniques. You prepare the ingredients, work the pasta dough, roll it out, shape the pasta and learn why each step matters. They were patient, knowledgeable and happy to answer all of our questions. We chose the Shared Class and made fresh pasta completely from scratch, including traditional tagliatelle and ravioli. The instruction was excellent. Bianca and Antonio explained everything clearly and gave us lots of practical tips about preparing pasta dough, rolling it to the correct thickness and getting the shapes right. Even colleagues who had never made pasta before were able to follow along easily and left feeling confident enough to try it again at home. One of the things that makes Felsina Culinaria particularly special is its connection to authentic Bolognese and Emilian food traditions. This felt much more meaningful than simply learning a generic Italian recipe. The class teaches the dishes, methods and techniques associated with Bologna and Emilia-Romagna, with a real emphasis on preserving traditional cooking knowledge. For anyone visiting Bologna because of its famous food culture, I think a hands-on pasta-making class like this is one of the best experiences you can add to the trip. It was also a fantastic activity for our group of nine colleagues. The Shared Class worked extremely well for a team because everyone could participate while still having plenty of time to talk, laugh and enjoy the experience together. It never felt crowded or overly organised. If you are looking for a team-building activity in Bologna, a group cooking class, a company outing or simply something different to do with a large group of friends, I would strongly recommend Felsina Culinaria. After the cooking class we all sat down together and ate what we had prepared. That was probably one of my favourite parts of the day. Sharing the meal after spending the previous hours making everything ourselves made it much more satisfying, and the food was delicious. The atmosphere remained very relaxed and welcoming throughout, and nothing felt rushed. It was closer to being welcomed into an Italian home in the countryside than attending a conventional cooking school. They also took photos throughout the experience and sent them to us afterwards via WhatsApp, which was a really thoughtful addition. With nine colleagues cooking together, it meant we could concentrate on the class rather than constantly stopping to take photos ourselves, and we still had plenty of pictures to remember the day. There are many cooking classes in Bologna, but I think Felsina Culinaria stands out because it combines several things extremely well: genuinely hands-on teaching, authentic fresh pasta, traditional Bolognese cuisine, knowledgeable and welcoming hosts, a beautiful countryside location and an experience that works equally well for couples, friends, families and larger groups. Our Shared Class with nine people felt personal from beginning to end. I would also recommend Felsina Culinaria to anyone looking for a memorable day trip from Bologna. You can leave the historic centre for a few hours, experience the surrounding countryside, learn how to make traditional Italian food and then enjoy a long meal with everything you have prepared. For travellers interested in food, it gives you a much deeper appreciation of Bologna's culinary traditions than simply visiting restaurants. If you are researching the best things to do in Bologna, especially food experiences, fresh pasta classes or authentic Italian cooking classes, Felsina Culinaria deserves to be very high on the list. It is particularly good for anyone who wants to learn traditional pasta-making properly rather than attend a short tourist demonstration.
Bianca was the nicest chef and really guided us through every step of the way in order to learn how to make the original Lasagne Bolognese. Her husband Antonio showed us how to make different kinds of pasta while we waited for the lasagne in the oven. He also picked us up from the train station before the class started. They were so kind and guided us in a way that made it easier for us to learn to make both lasagne and tiramisu. We will definitely recommend booking a cooking class at Biancas if you want to learn to make lasagne the right way.
Our experience with Bianca and Antonio was fantastic. They welcomed us into their beautiful home and even picked us up from the train station. We learned several pasta shapes and made a delicious lasagna and tiramisu from her family’s recipes. It was a nice escape from the city with a beautiful view. We had a really great time and will recommend this to anyone visiting. Also, all of their pets were so welcoming too!
It was amazing from beginning to end. Such a warm and wonderful family who took their time to teach in such a sincere way, thank you. My son and I had a memorable time, thank you so much to you all. We would highly recommend. Thank you again for welcoming us into your lovely home.
We were incredibly well received by Bianca and her husband. Bianca taught us classic Italian family dishes in a cozy yet professional manner. Afterwards ate everything on the beautiful terrace with a wonderful view. In summary it was a blissful classy afternoon
We learned a lot in the pumpkin tortellini class (we've already made them at home), they were delicious and we were able to dine in privacy with very nice views. Bianca and her young lady, very pretty. 😍😍😍
Bianca’s warm welcome made us feel instantly at home. She is an excellent teacher, making the whole experience fun and educational. The ingredients were top-notch, and the dishes we prepared (Tortelloni with pumpkin) were delicious. The cozy atmosphere added to the charm.
The best way to remember Italy. `We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the view. The food was incredibly good. We hope we can cook it again at home!
What an unbelievable experience we had with Bianca and her family. She was lovely enough to fit us in last minute. Little did we know it was less than 48 hours after her son’s wedding, which was also where we had our class. Her house is a 5th generation hunting lodge that sits on a hilltop about 25 minutes outside of Bologna, but was easy to get to. We were welcomed by Bianca, her husband, her daughter, her brand new, lovely daughter-in-law and their wonderful dogs. We were learning to make tortellini and tiramisu, but in classic Italian style we started with some wine first, then made the dough first so it could rest. We jumped to the meet filling - a combination of pork, mortadella and prosciutto, combined with parmigiana and seasoning. It knocked our socks off. Next came the fun part - cutting the tortellini, filling them and trying to make them look pretty. The making them look pretty was the hardest part. More fine followed and then it was time to make the tiramisu and let it chill before we got to dig in for lunch. While the tortellini were cooking, we whipped up an incredible sauce that was super easy to make. Then more wine and time to eat. It tasted amazing and we enjoyed the countryside as we sip more wine, eat amazing pasta and downed our dessert. The time flew by and Bianca and her entire family were extremely gracious with their time and talents. I highly recommend this first class cooking experience with Bianca.
Bianca’s Italian cooking class was an absolute joy. Great food, lots of laughs, and I left feeling like a true Italian chef 🤌🤌🤌🤌. Five stars all the way! Definitely have to try it out! …
Bianca’s warm welcome made us feel instantly at home. She is an excellent teacher, making the whole experience fun and educational. The ingredients were top-notch, and the dishes we prepared (tortelloni with pumpkin) were delicious. The cozy atmosphere added to the charm.
The evening was delightful🥰 definitely recommend! Delicious food, great atmosphere and an unforgettable view! Bianca is the most welcoming host. I enjoyed the opportunity to experience the rich family history and learn more about the region and the history of local dishes. The kitchen was definitely the highlight of the evening for me😍. You can literally feel the warmth of generations there. Another surprise was to discover that I can actually cook! I could never imagine that my lasagne could taste so good! I will make it at home for sure special thanks for the video recipe that I'll use for sure to go back to that amazing evening! Totally worth it! The wine was also a great addition to the evening! Highly recommend!
I absolutely looooved it! 💘 Bianca's expertise and passion for cooking were evident in every dish. The variety of flavors and presentation were impressive, and the class was well-organized and engaging. I would highly recommend visiting Felsina Culinaria to anyone looking to improve their culinary skills or simply enjoy a unique culinary experience🍝
It is the best cooking class I have every tried in my life. Unlike most other cooking classes you are not in a crammed kitchen, but instead you cook in an absolutely gorgeous villa nested on top of rolling hills. The host is so kind and they make the best Bolognese sauce. Much better than even the one we tried in all other top rated Bolognese restaurants.
Thanks to Bianca my family felt like home. We loved all the stories about Emilia-Romagna and its traditions. The food was amazing and so easy to make!!! And of course the view was amazing. We didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend ❤️
I believe it is the kind of experience everyone should do at least once in their lives. So much value, we had to leave a tip!
We never expected to learn how to cook in such a wonderful place. We would have gladly let ourselves be adopted...... Thanks Bianca!! A unique experience.
The best way to remember Italy. `We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the view. The food was incredibly good. We hope we can cook it again at home!
Ciao! My name is Bianca and nothing brings me greater joy than sharing the dishes I hold close to my heart. Yet, as my children have ventured off to explore the world, I've found myself with an empty kitchen and no one to pamper with my culinary creations. But today, I'm thrilled to welcome you to a unique experience. Drawing from the cherished recipes passed down through generations by my grandmother,
I'm here to teach you the time-honored secrets of Bolognese cuisine. My mission is simple: to preserve my family's culinary heritage, transcending borders and cultures. I welcome you to Villa Degli Olmi, once a hunting lodge, to join this centuries-old journey, where tradition meets innovation, and where the vibrant flavors of Bologna come to life in your home kitchen. Andiamo!
