Grandma's Home Cooking School is the Thai culinary school located in Saraphi district, Chiangmai. We teach how to cook Thai food the way our Grandma used to prepare the meals for us.
Everyone will have a chance to pick up fresh vegetables from the farm like farmers do, and there are many more experiences await in the location where is not far from a town.

Myself and my friend completed the full day cooking course. We had a great day from start to finish. Rachael was a super host, keeping the course both informative and fun. The scenery at the cooking school is outstanding and walking around the farm was definitely a highlight for us. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the Chiang Mai area.
Die Location ist ein Traum, Racheal erklärt super einfach und mit viel Humor. Wir haben lecker gegessen und viel über die Kultur gelernt. Diesen Kurs kann ich wärmstens empfehlen
Gobby was a wonderful host and instructor. All the food was delicious and the farm is divine.
Chef Rachel is the best, picked us up at the hotel and showed us a very clean fresh market near the farm. Honestly, I want to spend more time in that market and do more shopping. The farm is way better than expected, spacious and relaxing. Chef Rachel patiently demonstrated each dish and I’m very surprised by the final result, delicious and aesthetic. We enjoyed our food at the big table and had a great time making new friends, a very relaxing way to spend the afternoon. I highly recommend this to travelers who love Thai food and seeking a place away from the crowd.
I don't normally write a review, but this place is very deserving of a 5 star. The staff was super amazing and the outdoor Cooking in the garden made it so relaxing.
Grandma's Cooking School was so much fun! The outdoor kitchen is located on a beautiful farm and Joy was an amazing and entertaining instructor. We spent 2 weeks in Thailand and I can honestly say the Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup we made were our favorites of each during our entire stay!
Teacher was very nice and spoke perfect English. We learned many different dishes and about all the spices used in Thailand. Overall, a very fun experience.
I was with my friends and we booked a cooking class at the very last minute. And it was such an amazing experience. We had a planned vacation in Thailand and we wanted to enjoy our very last day. So we asked our hotel if they can refer any other things to do. Grandma's home cooking school was the biggest highlight of the event. The place was so inviting, full of organic herbs and veggies. We made 7 dishes, all the ingredients were neatly prepared and brought to us on decorative wooden trays. We also had a market and farm tour. They were also able to squeeze our vegetarian request. We were very well taken cared of, staff were accommodating.
Thank you so much for an amazing half day session. Joy was amazing and I LOVED the food we made. So personal and very friendly! I want to come back for a full day!
Joy was amazing, great English and very easy to follow when cooking, definitely feel like I could make all the meals again. The farm is beautiful, highly recommend the half day, SO MUCH FOOD! Don’t eat before!!
It was interesting, professional, well structured, very kind people, good atmosphere. Good quality cooking. Nice surrounding.
I had heard about Thai food a lot and after one week I didn’t have the chance to really taste it. Until the class ! All food ended up tasting delicious, and my previous experience with cooking was almost none. The farm is also very pleasant, and the installations was easy & comfortable to use. Only the market part was a bit disappointing, because the market is quite small.
I learned so much about Thai culture and food! The food was delicious and the instructor was so accommodating to my dietary restrictions. The staff was so kind and helpful!! The garden itself was beautiful. We had an AMAZING time!!
Chose this particular school since I liked the idea of walking through an organic private garden, picking, smelling, tasting to learn about each herb and spices to use in your own dishes (instead of visiting a crowded noisy market). The cooking stations were outdoors under roofed brand new huts, which were very beautiful and completely sheltered even when it pelted down with rain (had screens on sides for added wind and rain protection). The farm is very spacious and can walk around after enjoying welcome tea, went on a swing and hammock and watched lotus floating in the river. I later found out that this cooking school is less than 1 year old so everything is clean and new, including toilets. It seems to be less well known compared to big facebook and instagramed schools perhaps since it wasn't in central Chiangmai (it was 15 min drive from hotel for us, but why does that matter when you are picked up in an air-conditioned new leather seat Honda Accord by your chef 30 mins before the class?). Oh and about the chefs, we met two, both were young in their late 20s to early 30s, spoke perfect English, one had majored in thai cruisine in Bangkok uni and worked as chef in Abu Dhabi and Carribeans before returning, planning to be a 5 star hotel chef, other was working in a restaurant in Chiangmai. Needless to say, communication was not an issue. The chefs are NOT some random housewife with limited English, which was what I was kinda expecting. I booked through Cookly about 20 hours before the class started and still we were the only two in the class on a Wednesday afternoon in October. It must be because this new company doesnt have much social media exposure or brochures in every hotel. We had 1 on 1 teaching where the chef cooks her own meal and we follow with our own ingredients, and could choose between any color curry and famous Khao Soi as well as choose from 2 soups, fixed pad thai, and fixed mango sticky rice (i.e 4 dishes - soup pad thai curry and dessert, plus provided tea). Afters an amazing meal we cooked ourselves with ZERO cleanup, we ate with the chef and chatted, before she dropped us off at an attraction that we asked to be dropped off at. The whole experience far exceeded what I expected. The Cookly site had a discount for the afternoon class, so we paid $30USD per person but would have gladly paid the original price of $43usd, given classes in Koh samui are twice the price, or 4-5 times the price back home in Sydney Australia. Honestly had the best experience so far on 3 visits to Thailand. I really hope this company flourishes. Peter from Sydney
I would highly recommend this class. We attended as a family and had many laughs as we created our authentic Thai dishes from scratch in relaxing outdoor surroundings. Plenty of food for a 4 course meal, individually tailored to our own tastes and preferences. Very knowledgeable teacher who was entertaining and fun.
The cooking class was very excellent. First we walked through the own farm garden while our teacher explained us the several plants. Than we cooked four Thai meals with a very good instruction by our teacher. After every meal we ate each meal together on a big Table. Everything was very good organized by the cooking school. Gladly again!!!
Very nice and funny teacher with good english, who loves her job. Lovely, quiet, romantic place.
Beautiful location, quite place with wooden huts surrounded by an organic garden with veggies, herbs and fruit trees. The tour guide/cook spoke very good English, she was enthusiastic, funny and knowledgable. We were a group of 6, not too large. We made 7 dishes, all the ingredients were neatly prepared and brought to us on decorative wooden trays. The price was absolutely fair. Highly recommended!
We were picked up on time at our Hotel on time by Rachael and taken straight to the beautiful location. Mike was our instructor for the day and he was lots of fun and really knowledgeable about all the ingredients, food and the area. We travelled around Thailand for 2 weeks and this was hands down the best meal we had during our stay and also one of our best days out! Thank you! We have already recommended this to our friends who are coming to Chaing Mai later this summer.
The farm is very beautiful and everything is explained very well. Delicious and fresh food. Fresh herbs and eggs. I highly recommend this class.
Mike is a wonderful teacher the food is amazing and the whole experience was excellent
Thoroughly enjoyed our cooking experience with cook Mike. From the educational tour of the local market, the stroll through the organically home grown garden of herbs, vegetables and fruit to then preparing our own delicious Thai favorites. Thai food is extremely flavorful and delicious couldn’t believe we made it ourselves with Mikes help of course. Highly recommend Grandmas Cooking experience.
The environment is great and the instructor is great too.
As soon as we arrived at the farm, we were amazed by the environment. The instructor Joyce was very friendly with such a good humor and she explained each step very thoroughly. I would say, this is by far the most memorable experience in Chiangmai and I will definitely be back again!!
The pavilion was beautiful and since I was the only person that booked it had a nice personal touch to it! I had a great time talking with Joyce, Rachel and Mike. Mike and Joyce alternated teaching me the traditional thai dishes and Mike showed me the herbs and animals located there. I had a wonderful time. Make sure to bring some bug spray in the PM as the mosquitoes come out during the evening class.
Beautiful setting. Lovely gardens. Picking our own ingredients and gathering eggs really added to the experience. Everyone was so nice a very accomodating to my 9 year old granddaughter. Very personalized. Not huge group like other programs. And food was delicious.
Very friendly and so much food! Couldn’t eat it all. Best of the best
Huge organic garden. Staff very professional and Nice very the kids. The cooker has outstanding teaching skills. We spent a wonderful evening. I highly recommand.
Although this school is a recent start-up school, the chefs and staff are able to share their experience, style and care with their clients. My favorites: khao soi and blue sticky rice. Great job, Joyzaa and Mike!! You and your staff gave me a perfect day!!
Our experience at Grandma's Home Cooking Class was in short - phenomenal. Joy was our instructor and was absolutely hilarious, the food we made was truly incredible, and the atmosphere was idyllic. I loved that they offer pick up service from the hotel as it was about a 20-30 minute drive outside the city. The farm was amazing and we got to walk around and learn about the organic produce that we used in our cooking. I was shocked to learn that they had only recently opened as everything went so smoothly. One plus to it being relatively new was that we were the only people there and received a private class - though I know it would have been great regardless. I will recommend this class to anyone I know traveling to Chiang Mai and I hope to make it back one day.
This place is brand new and they haven’t really gotten their name out too much which is probably why you don’t see many reviews. They produce all their own veggies, eggs, herbs, chicken right on the farm. The people are amazing!! They were so nice and so knowledgeable. The farm uses no chemical pesticides and you can tell the employees are very passionate about this. They also have all brand new facilities, the farm is so cute! Also the most important part, the food was amazing day you are taught to make all the sauces from scratch. Please please please choose this cooking class, you will not regret it!!
I had an extremely good time attending my first cooking class. Love the farm and the chefs Instructors. Overall perfect !!
Located at outskirt of Chiangmai totally immersed myself in this nice atmosphere surrounded by greens. Very thoughtful and friendly cooking instructors mike and joy. Enjoy the class very much. Highly recommended !!
The cooking school is in a very spacious and beautiful farm away from the city. The owners have obviously put a lot of efforts to make sure the visitors have an enjoyable experience. Our instructors Joy and Mike were amazing personalities who were not only fun and knowledgeable, but also passionate in what they do. You can tell a lot of thoughts have been put into the planning of the classes and the experience. Would be happy to join their classes again!
