Alice was an excellent host who guided us through the gardens teaching us all about the different plants and herbs and their special qualities. She then taught us how to cook (and eat!) a variety of Vietnamese dishes. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience - thank you Alice!
Alice is a great chef who learned us a lot about the secrets of the Vietnamese kitchen! We recommend this to everyone!
Great experience with Alice. We were a group of 4 adults guided by a wonderful host. Thank you Alice for the educational farm tour and cooking class.
We've done dozens of cooking classes around the world. This is truly a professional operation. They know what they are doing and do it efficiently. This course stood out for two main reasons: 1) It is taught by a chef. He clearly knows what he's doing and does a wonderful job teaching it. 2) Many cooking classes include a market visit to pick up ingredients, but we haven't done one where we harvested our ingredients. It was interested to see what lemongrass looks like as a plant and learn how to harvest it. The food we cooked was really good, and we couldn't finish all of it. This was the best cooking class we've done in a while! Be aware that the farm isn't in Saigon. It was a 1.5 hour ride in the van to get there in the afternoon and around 1.25 to return in the evening.
I love 💕 the cookbooks which I brought.
Great experience with personalized service Aura was very knowledgeable and a talented chef. We enjoyed the farm walk and gathering ingredients and we learnt some great recipes!
I love Vietnamese dishes and was surprised to learn how quick, easy, and simple the recipes were. Our 7-year-old daughter also did great with her own cooking station, and I think will be spending more time in the kitchen helping cook. We bought cookbook and SIX bags of the delicious garlic chili cashews as gifts. It's also nice they take some candid photos along the way for you to have as well. Would definitely recommend. The 60-90 min drive makes for a good nap opportunity to recharge in between adventures.
I got what I wanted, but I want to learn more in the future Thank you, Chef Alice.
We had an amazing experience with Alice. We were a group of 3 adults and 2 children. Everything from the farm tour and harvesting our ingredients to the cooking class itself, eating our delicious creations, and even some of the additional items we bought (such as the reasonably priced cookbook and ingredients to take with us). Alice was wonderful host. Very friendly, patient, skilled and great with the kids. One word of warning for those that do the tour in the late afternoon, wear long sleeves and pants if possible! We were eaten alive by mosquitos during the farm tour portion. Thank you Alice and the HCM cooking class team for one of the best highlights of our trip!
Had such a wonderful time at this farm cooking class. It is one of the highlights of my trip to Viet Nam. Alice was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, and I loved learning about the growing methods for mushrooms and crops on the farm. The cooking section was super organised, with perfect mise en place, and I was provided with vegetarian friendly options. I was travelling on my own, and had a great time with the group! Highly recommend for everyone, including solo travellers.
This alternative take on the Vietnamese cooking course was well worth the hour’s trip by air conditioned minibus to an organic farm outside HCMC. It was fascinating to see and hear about all the fruits and vegetables they grow here - especially the oyster mushrooms. After gathering our produce we made a selection of 4 great dishes, which were delicious. Really enjoyed getting out of the city to the peace of the countryside. Highly recommend this trip. (left hotel at 7.15 am and back at 2.30 pm - on a Sunday)
Having loved Vietnamese food ever since my first trip here over 6 years ago, I thought a cooking class would be the perfect way to spend an afternoon here in Ho Chi Minh. What made this experience even more special was the fact that I got to share it with my mum, learning how to cook all the special family recipes (including crispy prawn spring rolls, pork and papaya salad, chicken pho and I definitely can not forget the cherry on top...the crispy banana spring rolls for dessert). Not only did we get to enjoy our new cooking skills (our chef made us feel like we were some of the best viet cooks around), but we also got to go through the extensive garden at the farm, learning about how each product was used and recycled. We even got to pick our own produce from the garden to use in our cooking, talk about fresh! The trip out to the countryside was also a welcomed haven away from the lively and loud city of HCM. Would definitely recommend for anybody wondering what to do with their time here in Ho Chi Minh. 5/5 stars!
I did the full nine courses and each of them was very nice, it also helped to see the base of Vietnamese cooking as to which ingredients stayed the same and which ones swapped out. You are loaded with information, particularly in the garden, that leads me to think maybe I should have been writing things down if I hadn't been enjoying it so much. The staff is all really nice and the owner is a natural wheeler dealer with a gift for the gab, amusing me and his other guests throughout the day. Your money could go further other places in Vietnam, however it is a good day's cooking and I would recommend.
We where introduced to the local herbs, vegetables and fruits. Then went into the cooking class. Chef Chey Tan was awesome in explaining the ingredients and instructions. The food was delicious. We didn’t realise it was so easy to cook such great food. Looking forward to taking the experience and cooking at home.
Really interesting hands-on session with a knowledgeable and lovely chef. The farm on the outskirts of HCMC was a little oasis of calm. Highly recommend.
If you really want to learn the basics of Vietnamese cuisine then this class is a must!! From picking the herbs, veggies and mushrooms from the organic gardens, to learning about their medicinal properties to putting together dishes from scratch -- to the amazing teaching from Chef Tan... it was the best day ever.
I had a terrific day cooking with Chef Sue. First I was shown their fantastic garden, and then an understanding on how they grow oyster mushrooms. Together we created 9 different dishes from making Chicken Pho Stock, Prawn Spring Rolls, Papaya Salad with BBQ Beef,BBQ beef wrapped in betel leaves, Chicken, chilli and lemongrass claypot, eggplant stuffed with pork and prawn in batter, grilled fish with herb sauce, crispy prawns with tamarind sauce and last but not least banana spring roll with coconut ice cream. As I have had quite a few cooking experiences in Vietnam, Sue and Tan, were insistent that I have new experiences in the kitchen. Transportation to and fro the hotel was included. Sue and Tan both spoke excellent English. Highly recommend this School.
Simple recipe but delicious, we can cook as same way at my home. All the ingredients were fresh and taste was far better than local market in HCMC. I look forward to other class and want to introduce this class to my friends who come to HCMC for sightseeing :)
This time was my second time here. I joined the class last summer with my husband and had a great time so we’ve always wanted to come back. This time i brought my daughter and friends traveling from Japan and they all loved it ! Two four years old kids also enjoyed exploring the farm and doing some farmer’s work which they don’t get to experience often,. Thanks again for offering us a great experience!!
This was my first cooking class ever so for the experience was all the more exciting. Ho Chi Minh Cooking Class did not disappoint. It was located out of the city area, on an organic farm. with a huge love for Vietnamese cuisine, this class was an easy choice. Chef Tan was amazing, patient and fluent in English, welcoming and truly an artist in the kitchen. I was happy to learn from her, such wonderful wholesome recipes that I look forward to cooking when I go back home. As well the highlight was eating the food after cooking it, you can taste the freshness. Beats anything in the city.
Definitely an experience to remember! If you want to see the rich culture of Vietnam, then you have come to right place. This was by far, my best travelling experience. I got picked up by the driver from my hotel and i was with an English speaking guide. We visited the organic farm which was right next to the cooking class' kitchen. It was a medicinal garden and they taught me how to use these ingredients to cure simple colds and cough. It was really amazing. I also got to experience how to be a Vietnamese traditional farmer, they taught me traditional techniques and educated me of its importance. Then finally we got to cook traditional Vietnamese cuisine and used the ingredients found in the garden. They were all so warm and friendly. I wish i could have stayed a little longer.
This was a wonderful way to spend Christmas, I am glad they were open. We were picked up by the driver and English speaking tour guide and driven to the farm in a neat and comfortable vehicle. The tour guide was a food technologist and so told us interesting things about his work and food generally. When we arrived they provided us with fruits and a drink which was nice. We then walked around the farm picking veggies and herbs as well as being informed about their goodness. The actual cooking class was so much fun, and everything we made was so tasty. It was all done at a relaxed and informative pace and I was really happy with my end results. The chef was really funny and we laughed the whole day. It did over run, but it just meant we got more time and had more fun! Worth the price and a brilliant experience!
It was really enjoyable to discover the farm and share a good talk with the Chef.
Being able to see the farm, collect some of the ingredients directly from the soil was already great. But having a skilled chef showing the fundamentals of Vietnamese cuisine and helping me create delicious dishes was truly amazing.
廚師很專業很棒,這次住宿不小心選到太遠的地方,接待人員仍然很客氣的跟我們聊天,而且看得到食物的產地也了解許多知識,非常好玩
Such a fun day! Highly recommended
Loved the experience and would recommend this to others!
So amazing! Nicest people and so fun. Accomodated menu to be vegan
good hands on, chef really talented and very helpful. place could be more presentable. Overall enjoying the experience.
I loved the authenticity of the experience. We had to drive a long way out of town but you were then surrounded by fields and gardens, complete with buffalo and pigs. The food was absolutely delicious, the lessons not too taxing but provided the foundation of Vietnamese flavours and having gathered the ingredients yourself you knew how fresh they were! Would have been more fun to do it with friends but even as a single it was fun. Thank you so much!
The head chef was very professional and very easy to follow
Professional and personable team. Very informative course- loved that we got to spend time on the actual farm and pick the vegetables and fruits we would use for the cooking session. So much fun- would do it again when next in Saigon.
The organic Farm to table concept allowed every guest to experience to be a farmer and chef for a day! Chef Tan amazed us with how he run his farm with so much passion and dedication in teaching his skills to others and providing job for locals!
This hands-on organic farm tour and cooking class in Ho Chi Minh was the highlight of our trip. Traveling to Vietnam in the slow season has its advantages, like having an afternoon one-on-one cooking class with Chef Tan. He made the cooking class so much fun and incredibly informative. We can't wait to try out some of the delicious dishes at home. A great team of people help make this experience an unforgettable taste journey you will enjoy from start to finish. It was also very convenient, the pick up car was waiting at the hotel lobby and provided a return as well. We loved our day and Highly recommend this 5 star class!
Quite different from traditional cooking classes that take place in fancy kitchen with fancy tools. In this one, you would have a chance to get close to the market, the farm and to learn the basic but important components of vietnamese cooking and flavors. The food are in a big portion and tasty. Make sure you keep your stomach empty before taking the class!
Chef Toung (hope I spell his name correctly) was the one who teach me Vietnamese foods. He and Chef Tan were very friendly and gave me fun experiences to cook. Thank you so much Sara
Traveling to Vietnam in the slow season has its advantages, like having a one-on-one cooking class with Chef Tan. This is not the kind of cooking class where it is watching or sharing duties with someone else, everything is hands on and complete, and most importantly Chef Tan not only teaches what to cook but also the how and the why. Technique is a part of every dish. It was a great morning and the highlight of the Ho Chi Minh City vacation. It was also very convenient, the pick up car was waiting at the hotel lobby and provided a return to the city as well. By the way, the Chinese inscription on the Buddhist statue on the dashboard of the car reads, "Yi Lu Shun Feng" which translates into "Bon Voyage", so sign up for the cooking class and have a great food trip!
I adored my cooking class so much. I loved seeing the farm and learning about the medicinal qualities of the plants. I picked the veggies I needed to make the dishes id chosen. chef tan taught me. he spoke perfect English and was informative and fun. well worth the journey to the farm and it was nice to get out of the city and onto the farm. 5 stars and highly recommended. :)
Fabulous lesson about both the ingredients from the farm and the best way to cook them. A great team of people helps make this experience an unforgettable taste journey you will enjoy from start to finish.
We had so much fun at this hands-on cooking class in Ho Chi Minh. The organic-farm tour is a highlight and the cooking instructor gives you a lot of interesting insights about Vietnamese food culture. Can't wait to try out some of the dishes at home. Highly recommend this class!
