absolutely fantastic experience that exceeded all my expectations and the class was highly interactive, allowing us to get hands-on with every part of the process. We learned to make pizza dough from scratch, craft the perfect sauce, and select the best toppings. The gelato-making segment was equally enjoyable, as we learned about the science behind making creamy, delicious gelato.
Giglio was so much fun! I learned so much. I went on a class trip and had a great time. Not only did we learn all about Italian cooking and little tips and tricks, but the staff was nothing short of a good time! Definitely stop by if you are in Florence.
One of my wife's "bucket list" items was a cooking class in Italy. Our travel consultant booked us with Giglio Cooking in Florence. The school is about a 20-minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery, so it's convenient to the tourist areas. The private class (just my wife and Marcella Ansaldo, the owner) was amazing. They made homemade pasta with mushrooms, bruschetta, chicken with capers and olives, and tiramisu. We both enjoyed the fruits of the class with a bottle of red wine provided by the school. In an Italy trip full of amazing experiences, my wife said this was one of the best. Marcella was interesting to talk to, informative, knowledgeable, and a lot fun! We even bought her cookbook.
My wife and I had an amazing experience learning to cook with Marcella. She is more passionate about high quality food and cooking than anyone else I have met in my life. She knows the chemistry behind cooking and teaches it in a way that is fun and engaging. Marcella has a wonderful personality and is a Tuscan treasure!
Wonderful experience to finish up our Italy trip!! Would highly recommend it, so much fun! I still don't know how we did it but we managed to do 7 different gelatos in around 4 hours. Basil, Parmesan, Chocolate, Nocciola, Strawberry, Vanilla, Fior di latte, all amazing! Marcella and Giovanni couldn't have been more helpful, they gave us every bit of knowledge and advice to succeed when doing gelatos back home. We already ordered a gelato machine and can't wait to start doing them at home!
Our personal cooking class with Marcella was the highlight of our 18 day trip! She was incredible! To start, we were able to create a fully customized menu, which is so unique when it comes to a cooking school. With dietary restrictions and picky eaters, being able to create our own menu was a huge hit. We made bruschetta, pizza, pasta, chicken, and hazelnut gelato - YUM! All 7 of us (ages 18-55) had the most amazing time, and Marcella was kind and patient as we spent 3 hours preparing delicious foods! She took the time to explain the chemical reasons behind each technique, which was informative and helped us replicate the meals back home. Another bonus is that she provided aprons to take home and recipes for each meal :)
It was a great experience. We were five lads, had the class to ourselves. The chef didn't overload us with info and went at a good pace. He didn't mind when our attention drifted off and no need to say the Pizza and Gelato were amazing. Highly recommend it!
