Loved the cooking and eating parts Would have liked more guidance and understanding of the things in the market, what we were buying, and how locals shop. Also loved that the class was small so everyone got to do everything. The teacher was sweet helpful and clear in his instructions.
Chef José was such an incredible resource - taking us through the market, directing us through all the steps, and being an overall incredible host! The food we made was so delicious, and the kitchen space provided was beautiful and well appointed. Overall it was 10/10. The space, the company, the food. Would very much recommend this cooking class for all who are looking to experience some authentic Mexican cuisine :)
I had an amazing time with the cooking class. The host was absolutely amazing, knowledgeable, and personable to me and the other participants. The experience was great from the start when we were met by our amazing host. She took us through the local market and explained the importance of the market in the neighborhood. When we returned to the place, we were greeted with a clean and amazing kitchen. The rest of the experience was such a great one. Our host was diligent in explaining proper techniques, practices, and ways to make sure we make everything correctly. While we were making everything, we also learned about the history of food in Mexican culture and got excellent recommendations of places to check out during our stay in the city. When we finished, we got to eat everything, and it was some of the best food I had on the trip. I will be recommending this class to anyone I know that is looking for things to do in the city during their travel!
Probably the most fun thing we did in Mexico City. I cannot recommend this enough. We took this class our first night and it was an amazing introduction to the markets, kindness of the people in Mexico City, and the delicious food. We enjoyed getting to know other travelers from around the United States. They kept us busy with tasks to complete the meal, but we had plenty of time to chat with others.
We had a blast! Our chef was amazing. She was well prepared and on it completely! The menu and our tasks were well layed out very well managed. All ten of us were working together and the outcome was nothing short of incredible. The food and drinks were delicious . Book it, you will not regret it. We even made our own tortillas and salsas from scratch. The quality of the food and the cocktails was excellent. Everything was delicious, and this was a super fun evening. The only thing that could have made it better was more information about the history of the food.

Our family of five, including 3 young adults, spent a delightful morning in Ilena's "Mexican Cooking Class with Market Visit." We did the class with a couple and another family, and all of us were kept mightily informed (and mighty busy!) by Illena and her crew while we prepared our delicious lunch. It was a huge hit.

We loved learning so much about Mexican cooking in a beautiful kitchen. Both chefs provided amazing energy and knowledge. We were a family of 4 (parents with 20 and 15 year old kids) and we all enjoyed it. The food was fantastic. Also, just the right amount of time.
This has absolutely been a highlight from our trip to Mexico City. From the trip to the market, to the teamwork in making each part of our meal, to the finished product, we had so much fun learning about the culture of the city and region through food. We made two different cocktails, vegetarian tacos, a local stuffed tortilla and mole. All turned out absolutely amazing. The mole was the best I’ve ever had but the vegetarian tacos were unexpected and incredible. Our chef, Eduardo was fantastic and is incredibly talented. We can’t wait to try to recreate some of these recipes at home. Thanks for an amazing evening!

He showed us the local market and afterwards we cooked our own 3 course meal completely from scratch with local ingredients and techniques. Jose made sure we catered to our own taste and we finished with a nice desert and some lovely mezcal.

Wonderful class! I attended with my three adult kiddos, we all love to cook and especially love Mexican cuisine. The class was just the right size, easy to follow. A quick trip to the market, some fun and easy explanation of local food and back to prepare three courses and cocktails. All cooking levels were engaged and the feel was fun and festive. Excellent spread. We enjoyed every moment. We are all excited to make homemade tortillas at home now!
Had a great time! My partner and I learned a lot about how to properly make delicious traditional Mexican food! Chef Jose was very knowledgeable and explained things incredibly well. The location was great and he had all the tools we needed to make delicious food! Chef Jose also explained why we got which ingredients to use and variations of the ingredients.

As I was the only participant in my class I was lucky enough to benefit from Jose's undivided instruction. The visit to the market was very interesting especially the unique ingredients in Mexico that were used to in the dishes we made. Jose provided excellent instruction that resulted in the best guacamole, salsa, vegetable soup, quesadilla's and taco's that I have tasted anywhere. One of the best, and certainly the tastiest, activity that I did in Mexico. Thank you Jose!
What a great experience. There were only 3 of us so felt like an extra personal experience. Food was delicious. We got to collect our ingredients from the market although the day we did it most of the stalls were closed however still a great experience.

It was an amazing class, we did tortillas from scratch and with them prepared tacos with sauces and guacamole. We also cooked an amazing soup and “enchiladas de pollo”. We prepared and drank 2 cocktails! Jose was very clear in his instructions and open to all my questions!

We had Jose as our instructor. Had a blast touring the nearby market and getting ingredients from there and learning to cook authentic Mexican food. Jose was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and you can tell how passionate he is about food.
I wanted to learn to make fresh tortillas and we did, along with a number of other simple recipes and cocktails for a fun meal with friends of family! Met some new friends as well!! It was a great experience and a fun way to spend the afternoon!!

my husband and i had a really great experience. very intimate and private setting and was fun learning new recipes with the two other guests. we started with shopping for the vegetables and then spent the next 2-3 hours learning three different dishes. would definitely recommend doing as a couple or even with a group of friends.
The market visit was short and sweet to gather the ingredients for dinner. We had 4 total in our cooking class, which made it a more intimate environment. We were all able to participate in preparing of the food and conversation flowed nicely. Jose was great at showing us how to do things when we were unsure (especially with making tortillas), answering questions and making the evening run smoothly. Such a wonderful person and chef! Wish we could have had mezcal with dinner, as it was advertised to be included, as that would have been a nice complement to the meal. All in all, it was a lovely evening and would recommend!

I had a wonderful experience at my Cookly class with José. He was professional and delightful. My husband had expected to also be part of the evening but felt unwell at the last minute and so cancelled. That meant I had a private class . José took me to the local market to buy the ingredients and then we went back to his kitchen too prepare our meal. The conversation was easy gooing and fun and the meal was delicious. I would highly recommend the experience.

I have attended many cooking classes (and my mom has gone to even more) and this was one of the very best! Jose did such a wonderful job of keeping us all busy learning new skills. The end results were absolutely phenomenal. The environment was cozy and intimate, but clean and professional. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
We very much enjoyed the cooking class. It was a truly hands on experience when making the various dishes. Chef Jose was excellent in keeping everyone involved and explaining the various cooking techniques especially when making fresh tortillas which can be tricky. As a small group we made blue corn flour tortillas from scratch, crop soup, chicken enchiladas , tacos, tomatillo sauce. The visit to the local market to pick up all of the ingredients was also a great experience to see the availability of various fresh produce and products and how the markets function. The finale consisted of the group having a fantastic lunch based on what we all prepared. For us this was a fantastic experience for our first visit to Mexico City.
This was such a 5-Star experience! Jose was both an excellent instructor and an excellent chef. The fact that he was able to keep our family of 4 (including two teens) busy prepping a 3-course meal is a skill in itself. The food was incredibly delicious and we were very appreciative of his flexibility to pivot to a vegetarian meal. Highly recommend this cooking class.

I take cooking classes in every country I go to. This was genuinely the best experience I’ve ever had. Eduardo explained things so well, was receptive of my spice tolerance and dietary restrictions, and was just a fun person to be around. The food was obviously unbelievable. The mole with chicken, and then the salsa we made… everything was 10/10, and a meal that I will ALWAYS remember..

All the experience was just great. We started with a trip to the local market to buy all the ingredients we needed for the meal. Eduardo, being born and raised in Mexico City knew many of the people there, which made the experience really authentic. He also told us much about the backgrounds of these local markets. While preparing the meal, we learned a ton of stuff not only about the local food traditions but also about the chemical and physical processes which take place during cooking and prepared a 3 course meal together with Eduardo. The best part, of course, was then eating what we cooked: It was **delicious** :) So all in all this was really one of the best things we did so far during our vacation in here in Mexico. I can only recommend doing this to everyone interested in food and cooking culture! :)
This was my husbands and I first cooking class in another country and now we are inspired to do it every time we travel! Eduardo was such a fun and skilled professional we had the best time at the market picking out supplies. It was such a hands on experience with making the tortillas and the attention to details for the meal to come together. Highly recommend!
We had a great time with Chef Raul during the market tour and cooking class in the Juarez neighborhood. He explained and introduced us to all sorts of local ingredients, many of which we used in our cooking. We made fresh salsa, pressed tortillas, quesadillas, sweet tamales, and mole with chicken. The class was hands on and was fun for even my husband who doesn’t cook. We left very full and happy

The entire experience with Eduardo was great! The market tour to start was a great way to understand the ingredients, cuisine and overall insight into the Mexican cooking culture. We then had the opportunity to make many delicious meals - vegetable tacos (including cactus!), bean and sausage soup, along with a chicken mole dish all with freshly made guac, salsa and tortillas - yum! Eduardo was a very informative and helpful guide who provided us beginners with some very useful tips. The only thing to note is that we booked a 3 hour class and it lasted close to 4, which was fine with our schedule but something to note if you’re tight on time! Overall, I’d highly recommend this for any beginner or advanced food lovers!
At the end of our class, Eduardo told us that, when he was younger, he was taught that if he has a litre of water and you have none, then you both have half a litre. This spirit and ethos could not be more true of Eduardo's warm and enthusiastic approach to teaching the art of Mexican cuisine. What we didn't realise when we booked the class was that Eduardo comes with more than a wealth of experience, having cooked in Michelin starred restaurants and with some of the literally best chefs in the world. From the market tour to the cooking to the discussions about the heritage of Mexican food and culture to his astonishing plating, Eduardo is, in a word, simple amazing. For anyone visiting Mexico, a class with him isn't a must, it is a necessity.
Eduardo “Lalo” was an absolutely wonderful guide and teacher for our day. He had incredible knowledge and experience of the ingredients and how to instruct us around the kitchen. He was able to really give us an experience of Mexican culture through the tastes and scents of the food while laughing and enjoying the whole way. We had a great time shopping, learning from and cooking with Eduardo. He's a great guy in general, a professional chef, and a good teacher. The class was in a cute space and he took us through the whole process- how to select ingredients, prep efficiently, and cook with a number of different skills. He is passionate about Mexican food traditions and the recipes he created were delicious, used interesting ingredients, and he sent them to us afterwards! Everything I could have wanted from the experience, thanks Eduardo!

As a Mexican I learned an awful lot about my country's cuisine, it blew my mind. Chef Lalo is an amazing teacher, and the menu he created for the season is delicious and easy to replicate at home! It included two kinds of veggie tacos with two salsas (including a perfect guacamole), DELICIOUS Frijoles Charros with habanero and mint, as well as hoja santa tostadas with mole and chicken. All ingredients were selected from the local market, only a few steps away from where the class takes place. The location is cozy and beautiful, I totally recommend this class!
Eduardo is a knowlegdeable and highly empathic chef, from the beginning he perfectly understood to adapt the environment to our personal preferences. Food was great and we definitely enjoyed the cooking experience in a casual atmosphere. The house and venue are just amazing!

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! We started the class with a visit to a local market and loved learning how to pick the best ingredients to be used in Mexican culinary. During the class, I learned a lot of techniques from the expert himself, Chef Eduardo, in cooking from simple to complex instruction especially in preparing the salsa. The community was great as well and the place also the staffs were all accommodating. It was a fun adventure! The best part is I brought home the food recipe I made! A must try course!
Yum! We worked with no less than a half dozen types of chile, and it was delicious! We had a fantastic day with Eduardo and thoroughly enjoyed purchasing the ingredients for the dishes at the market, as well as learning how to prepare them. Leaning how to roast the various chiles over a flame was a highlight. The kitchen that the chef typically uses wasn't available so we traveled to a private home for our class and Eduardo did an exceptional job of instructing us and putting together a beautiful meal in a kitchen that was new to him. There were only two of us and the experience of a private class was great. Eduardo is very experienced, funny, and it was a pleasure to take a class with him! I highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants to learn about Mexican ingredient and cuisine.
