Balinese Cooking Class & Market Tour in Seminyak

Everything about it was amazing. Tommy was so enthusiastic to explain and make jokes with us. I learned some dishes, as well as the history of Indonesian food.

The instructor was very funny and knowledgeable about the ingredients of the food. Cooking together with a group was so much fun!

We learned so much in the class, from visiting the local food market to making our pastes for chicken, fish, and pork. We cooked chicken in banana leaf, fish sate, chicken sate, Indonesian noodles, nasi goreng, and so much more. We prepared so many dishes and had small tastings along the way before we all sat down for lunch and ate what we had prepared. The instructor was very good and would explain anything that we were not sure of, and nothing was too much. The cooking classes were in groups of 6, so we had ample opportunity to ask questions while we and the instructor laughed and had so much fun. Such a fantastic cooking class from the visit to the market to learning all the different dishes. The class was so well organised and being in groups of 6 meant lots of hands on work. The food was delicious!

We were picked up from our hotel and on way picked up four more people . One of them said there were over 50 people doing the course . We nearly pulled out there and then . So glad we didn’t as it was an excellent cooking school and can easily cater for that number as they break down the groups to much smaller and we only had the 6 of us who arrived together . We cooked 9 dishes , did a wonderful market tour learning lots about Balinese ingredients and sat down to lunch with all the food we had cooked . Each group had their own station and chef with very efficient helpers in the background . We came away with a wonderful memories, a cookbook and a certificate .

Tommy, the chef, made it a great time. Lots of hands on and delicious food to eat at the end! Tommy was gracious enough to email a recipe of the dish we were served before starting. All in all a really fun experience.

The cooking class was absolutely amazing. I had the pleasure to have Tommy as my chef. He is a very entertaining guy who speaks fluent English. His energy radiated of the class. It was a very packed schedule with lots of dishes and they are explained very well. The only negative point is that something went wrong with my booking and they didn't pick me up. I joint because of this halfway during the market tour. Even this small negative point wouldn't down rate my experience.

We had a great day at the cooking class. Our chef/cook was fun and made the day very enjoyable. We learnt about a dozen dishes and got a recipe book at the end to take with us. We all sat together and tried the food, and there was heaps to go around. Also the hosts took many photos throughout the session then sent them to us via WhatsApp so we had memories of the great day. I thought it was very good value and would do it again if I was looking for something to do. The only hitch we had was we were forgotten to be picked up from our hotel in Canggu to the Seminyak class but that was quickly sorted out when the host sent a taxi to us to pick us up. So if you're thinking about a cooking class I wouldn't hesitate to do this one.

The class at Warung Nia was excellent! It was fun, informative and everyone had a chance to cook and prepare the food and what a delicious feast it was! Chef Komang was a great guide and teacher and we learned a lot throughout the class. Also had the best group on our table with lots of laughs and good chat. Would do this again! Highly recommend to everyone who goes to Seminyak/Bali

Impressive number of recipes covered. Very well run and achieved a lot in the short time. Food yummy assuming you don’t mind some chilli. My 10 year old joined in and was made feel very welcome. Highly recommend to anyone and not too hot as in shade with fans.

I was one of a group of 6 ladies. We enjoyed everything about the the cooking class. Tommy, the staff, the setting... And end result was fantastic. Who wouldn't love great food and laughs with your closest friends. Highly recommended.

We started with a market tour. Learnt a bit of balinese culture. Tommy, the chef and tour guide was awesome. He was funny and informative. He kept the class entertaining. We made 12 course dishes. Every food was so delicious. We were so full in the end. Wish we could eat more!

This cooking class was an amazing experience. I joined the class with a friend, and we enjoyed it very much. I would recommend this class to everyone who is interested in an introduction in the Indonesian kitchen. Although we could not visit the market due to the heavy rain, we learned to make many dishes in an interactive way, and afterwards were able to try them all. We had a great cooking instructor who made the class extra fun. This was my first class via Cookly and will definitely book again.

We booked this class because of the reviews, and we weren't disappointed. The experience of Tommy, the owner and chef, was incredible. He had us engaged from the time we met him until the end. The traditional Balinese menu was amazing to eat at the end, made by the class. I would recommend this class to anyone.

It was really nice participating in the cooking with small groups. The hosts had great English and knife skills and made sure to include everyone in the cooking. The host was sure to explain all the ingredients their history and compare the dishes to other cooking styles, including Javanese and Thai. It was a really enjoyable time with more food than we could ever finish! I would highly recommend the class and would take it again!

I would highly recommend this cooking class. We had a great morning at Warung Nia from 8am till 1.30pm. The cooking class was so much fun, all the steps were clear what to do and of course a lot of tasting. After all the cooking it was time to enjoy the food together. We had so much food and it was so nice! Definitely worth the money.

What a great class!! Jimmy’s market tour was informative with plenty of jokes and coffee recommendations. Tommy’s cooking demonstrations were so much fun, the menu highlighted traditional delicious food and plenty of laughs to go around! All finished with such an amazing lunch! great intro into Balinese cooking, even for beginners! the market tour showed us the ingredients that are regularly used in Balinese cuisine as well as alternatives if they are not available at home. the menu was well laid out. we learned basic techniques and preparation of ingredients for common food items like nasi goreng/mie goreng, satay, and papaya salad. the instructor was very knowledgeable and even if we were in a fairly large class (about 24 students) made sure it was fun and interactive learning experience for everyone. all in all a much recommended experience for anyone wanting to learn about Balinese cooking, or just wanting to try something new.

It was a fun activity for me and my fiancé! Our tour through the market was great to get to know many local ingredients. Our chef explained the different fruits and veggies we were going to use perfectly with comparing the flavours to typical things at home (even though we came from 6 different continents!). All together we prepared 9 dishes with help from the kitchen staff, to speed up the process and in the end we had a delicious meal! We even got a little cook book and pictures at the end. Thanks for making it a great experience!

We had a great trip around the local food market learning about Balinese cooking ingredients. Our guide was knowledgeable, answered our questions, and above all had a great sense of humour. We returned to the restaurant and participated in an engaging cookery session, producing many local dishes. We met some other travellers during the class and at the end of the session shared an absolute feast for lunch, everything had been cooked by us. Two people in our group were vegetarian and the chef adapted some of the recipes to suit our dietary requirements. Definitely a great way to spend a morning if you love food!!

Our cooking class is fun, good explanation and if u had question the cook take time. Good atmosphere and jokes as well. The market tour is good with tasting some fruit and see spices such as Laos. Our multi culti group (Australia, Japan, Philipinnes, Canada, Chech Republic and the Netherlands). Most like dishes for me are papayasalad and sweet corn snack. All of us take part of preparation of dishes. Perfect to learn Balinese kitchen. Recommended!

Great class we had 12 people separated into 2 groups. That was a comfortable size. We all cut ingredients and shared the preparation. So much food left over. I highly recommend taking a pen to make notes on the recipes.

The chefs were very humorous and spoke good English. The visit to the traditional food market was a good addition to the cooking. The food we made/ate was amazing...maybe also because of the hours we put into making it🙂 The chefs also told us about many things to think about while cooking in general as well.

We started with a market tour where we looked and tasted/smelled at lots of different fruits and vegetables and given info on cooking and suitable replacements if we couldn’t find things back home Then went back to the restaurant to prepare and cook many dishes. The chef was really knowledgable, gave us loads of tips and made the day fun. The food was delicious and can’t wait to try cooking some more when I get home

The tour started with 7 of us at the market, it was a nice numbee of people and everyone could hear and be included. When we arrived at the cooking class destination there were two large groups operating at the same time, large groups that consisted of 36, they tried their hardest to ensure everyone had a go but it was too big which made the class go for longer. They were very accomodating to dietary needs, however they were completed online with the booking and then made to explain and justify the dietary needs in front of the entire group being probed with questions of why.

Would be great if you could individually cook, instead of group cooking.

For this price at leas one drink for the lunch should be included...

Great food and a lot of fun. I would highly recommend the Nia Cooking Class for everyone from beginners to food enthusiasts and experienced cooks. If you don't get a chance to do the cooking class, definitely find time to go have a meal at Warung Nia. We started at the local markets where our guide/chef explained local Indonesian ingredients and we tried some local fruits. Our guide/chef offered suggestions for alternatives if not available in our home country and some products OK to take back through immigration. After the markets we had a refreshing lemon ice tea and sweet dumplings in a sweet caramel-like sauce with coconut cream for morning tea. We then started out cooking class with the owner of cooking school. We each got a printed recipe book, so we could take notes on the pages. The chef was knowledgeable, easy to understand, funny and made us all feel very relaxed. During the cooking class there were parts everyone participated in and parts only some people did the cooking and others watched. The chef made sure everyone got a few turns to cook. It worked well because it gave you some time to take notes, have a drink, take photos and sit down for a bit. The chef asked if anyone had any special dietary requirements and was very careful to take these into consideration. At the end we sat down to a feast of amazing foods, some we had cooked and some extras to try. There was much more than we could eat. We were each given a certificate of participation. At the end I forgot to take home my recipes so I emailed the cooking school and they very kindly sent me a copy by email.

I really enjoyed the class, we got to check out the market first and he explained all the different types of produce. Then when we started cooking, he made sure everyone had a part in making the food. You can tell he's very passionate about teaching balinese cooking and also hilarious, I highly recommend this class.

Fantastic chef, and menu etc but it took a long time before we got cooking , waited more than an hour before going to market , which they should have not done , market wasn’t necessary , they could just show us the Difft ingredients at the school , too many people , so we were there until 3,pm , but the cooking itself and chef was excellent

After we arrived, we got welcome drinks and a introduction about the class. Than we went to a local market, what i really enjoyed Tommy our guide and Chef explained us so may interesting things and showed us the most important ingredients for Balinese cuisine. After the market a driver took us back and we got delicious Balinese sweet breakfast snack which had an amazing taste! And so we Split into three groups and started to cook. I really enjoyed learning all these things but what I didn’t like that much was that we actually just prepared the food this included chopping and mixing but then went over the next recipe and brought the other thing to the restaurants kitchen to cook it in the meantime. This was just because so we have time to learn how to cook as many things within the five hours but I would have loved to cook less dishes but these ones all by ourselves. And also because we were so many people, we had to cook one meal together with 7 other people. The chefs and the other people were so friendly and helpful and we had so much fun and in the end we got all the food we prepared to eat. This was such a delicious meal! We also got the certificate and a small book with all the recipes we cooked.

I have been to a few classes in other countries but this was the best. I had my three children with me and they loved it. Everybody was involved with the cooking and the chefs were first class! Will recommend this class to anybody coming to Bali

Chef Komang and Tommy guided us through a Balinese culinary odyssey. I lost count of how many recipes we went through - maybe 13? I recommend skipping breakfast so you have room to eat all the delicious dishes at the end.

We cooked many dishes and were able to take home all recipes which was great! The class was interactive and my partner and I were able to participate in multiple occasions during the cooking process which is sometimes quite challenging in a large group setting! It was our first cooking class and we had a wonderful time. The chef was patient, funny, and easy to understand. I appreciated that everything was kept very clean and all of our questions were easily answered. I feel prepared to make several of the recipes at home, and the recipe book that was included was perfect.

Thoroughly recommend this class it is fun, informative & the food is amazing! The only downside side was we couldn't eat it all! Really great to learn about traditional balinese food & be able to go home & recreate it.

Amazing and fun!!!

Great experience! My mother and I were able to bond together through culture and taste. We love to cook and we love trying out new cuisines. This class presented us with authentic Balinese tradition and technique. Aside from the cooking lesson, i loved the market tour. I got to immerse myself with the natives and they were so warm and smiling. Everything was organized from the pick up until the very end of the session.

I had such a great time at this cooking class learning how to make so many different and amazing Balinese dishes. I highly recommend this class to anyone who enjoys cooking and eating Balinese food. I took the class alone, but it didn’t matter as the group was warm and inviting. It was a splendid time! The morning market tour was also really informative.

I loved the market experience, and Komang's knowledge in regards to substituting herbs and vegetables if we can’t get them back home was great.

At first you get to do a tour in the market where you learn a lot about the food and the traditions. After, they serve you a good ice tea with a little bowl of sugary rice. Then we start the cooking class. We sadly don’t all cook at the same time, but we learn how to prepare the traditional plates and we taste them after. We get to have tips about cutting or mixing the food. It was a very nice experience.

We really enjoyed the class - lots of fun and tasty dishes we can recreate at home. The chef/trainer was excellent too - esp with reference to what products we could take back to NZ and what could be substituted if we could not get all ingredients when we got home.

My husband and I really enjoyed the cooking class at Nia Warung in Seminyak. It's well organised, informative and fun with a group of lovely travellers from around the world! We cooked several dishes and they were fresh and tasty. I highly recommend this cooking class to travellers visiting Seminyak.

I really enjoyed the whole class from start to finish. It began with a tour of a small food market where one of the instructors taught us about the different fruit and vegetables, their practicalities and links with tradition. He spoke very clear English and was engaging to listen to. The cooking class itself was set outside with lots of opportunity to be hands-on. I learnt a lot and the instructor was simply excellent! I didnt catch either of their names but both Indonesian instructors were incredible and I highly recommend taking this class.

My first time traveling to Bali, this class was the perfect thing to do before trying all the amazing food on this island!

Making friends with strangers in the minibus to the cooking class, visiting the local market learning about wonderful new foods and ingredients, having so much fun chopping mixing and cooking ingredients, having such a fun, informative teacher and then eating our creations....I couldn’t wish for a better day! What a brilliant experience, thank you!

Together with my husband we truly enjoyed the cooking class. We learned many new things on the market tour and had much fun during the class itself. The best thing was that everyone was involved and got to do something interesting for example stuffing a chicken with curry paste or wrapping it with the banana leaf. And everything we cooked was delicious so we much enjoyed our lunch after the classes. We also received a nicely prepared cooking notebook with all of the recipes so that we can recreate them back in home in order to revive our Balinese memories.

This class was so very enjoyable...from arriving to the end 6 hours later...great experience walking through the local market. Learning about the exotic fruits available in Bali Going back to the class cutting up and preparing the ingredients..our head chefs and staff were very friendly..have told many friends of the great experience I had...now I have my own cookbook I will share with family and friends my love of Balinese cuisine...loved every moment..thank you so very much..

The teacher was very good. Could understand him really well, and it was all hands-on throughout the class. Will definitely do more classes next time I come back.

We really enjoyed the whole day. From the market tour to the spice preparation, to the cooking and then the eating. The chef was great, he made sure he included everyone - we all took turns getting involved. I’m vegetarian and he made sure all the meat/fish was kept separate and that I had my own dishes to try as we went along. I was just so impressed with the organisation - as soon as we finished with something a helper would swoop in and remove it. There were lots of special touches too - pick up from hotel, transport to the market, the receipe book, the apron, the morning tea, bottle of water and then certificate at the end. And the meal at lunch time was just so amazing. It’s the best food we’ve had in Indonesia. Thank you so much!

The instructor is knowledgeable and insightful. He not just showed us the ingredients and the cuisine method but also gave us valuable points that we can take home if we want to cook ourselves later on. Overall it was fun, enlightening, and impressive.

A great way to spend a morning in Seminyak. The class was interactive and fun, even learnt some new skills. The food was very tasty and authentic Balinese food.

Informative, hilarious and all-round great fun!

My 7year old son and I did the cooking school on Friday 23rd of June. It was wonderful learning about the local dishes and trying them out. They were wonderful with my son and included him in all aspects of the cooking process. He was very much included in the whole process. The teacher was very knowledgeable and was able give the names for the ingredients in Germany and the Netherlands and South Africa (the nationalities doing the course). It took till 1pm to finish the cooking which was a little long. My only suggestion would be that the part at the beginning when the teacher gives a talk about cooking could be shorter. Other than that, it was great!

Great chefs, lots of fun and a big class, around 20 but everyone was busy and everything explained really well, ten out if ten :-)

We all thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class and special note to Tommy our host for the morning. Very infomative of culture and technique and a great personality. Look forward to heading home and trying recipes.

Learned a lot but a little disappointed that I couldn’t get involved a all dishes as there were 13 in the class. Interactive chef who was very informative. Friendly staff who helped out where needed. Would recommend this class.

Fantastic experience .I’m not the best cook but the food prepared by us was beautiful .Chef was very knowledgeable of many cuisines and gave us hints of what substitutes could be used from different countries. I came on my own and was very welcomed .Its a must experience.😀 Thankyou to all the staff

My husband and I really enjoyed this cooking class. We met some great people from other parts of the world. It was very interactive and Chef Comang shared his weslth of knowledge about Balinese cooking with us. We enjoyed the dishes we helped to make for lunch and had the opportunity to chat and laugh with the group. A great time was had by us all. Fantastic day with informative and humorous hosts. Picked up heaps of tips and excited to replicate from my Nia Cookbook the delicious meals we prepared. Recommend this cooking course to anyone visiting Bali and looking for a great cooking day.

This cooking course was fantastic. We made 8 dishes and had a great meal afterwards. I am gluten free and the chef was very aware of allergies and made separate dishes for everything I couldn't eat. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, I'm looking forward to making the dishes back home!

It was great to learn how to make all the pastes for the bases of the dishes. Everyone was involved in the preparing & cooking process, it was a lot of fun! The chef was very helpful, informative and entertaining. My only suggestion is for the chef to wear a name badge too. I highly recommend this cooking class!

This was great. A new experience for me having been to Bali many times before. Koman is a fantastic chef, knows all about every ingredient there is to use in Balinese cooking, also very friendly. Would highly recommend this to anyone.

The Warang Nia cooking class was wonderful. We all got to participate in cooking and preparing the dishes and the presenter was very informative and funny. He had a great sense of humour and made the entire experience very entertaining. We were even able to purchase a satay sauce block at the local markets and bring it home. I’m yet to experiment with it but am really looking forward to trying it.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class with Chef Komang- Chef Komang was wonderful in his tutelage and we made all the courses we were taught on the day. We worked alongside a great range of people who did the course with us and we all had a good time together. Would do another class with Chef Komang again!

What a great day out. Meeting people, visiting the local market, and then learning mew cooking techniques and recipes. The teacher chef was very patient and his skills shone out. With the day finishing with our well prepared food and a cold Bintang beer, it was most enjoyable and great value. Highly recommended.

We loved everything from going to the local market to eating the yummy food after we had finished cooking. A fabulous way to spend half a day. Would definitely recommend this class. And the flea markets next door are great shopping too! Ive already cooked two of the recipes we learnt since returning and the family loves them!

Highly recommend this Cooking class. The whole experience was great ! The teacher was funny and knowledgeable. Really helpful staff. We started off with an insightful trip to the local market and then learnt how to prep the food before cooking. We ate it for lunch and was delicious 😊 Had a really group of people in the class which made it fun. They also accommodated vegetarian and had a good selection for lunch. Would do it again!

We had to reschedule our cooking class for another day as due to sickness which meant we could only go on our last day there for a couple of hours. If the couple of hours we spent was anything like how the rest of the day went them all I can say that would have had a ball. I missed the full day but what I did experience made me seriously regret that we missed out on what would have been a day of learning laughing and eating. Next time I am in Bali I will certainly make sure I get to do a full day.

This is a fantastic experience, though we booked it because the weather was not so great, If had known how much fun we were going to have I would have forgone a sunny day of our holiday to do this cooking class. Great hands on cooking everyone gets in and helps with the cooking, from slicing and dicing to cooking the dishes. All followed by a massive feed at the end and take home a cook book of the dishes that we prepared. Our whole party ( 6 of us ) thoroughly enjoyed the day and our ages ranged from 19 to 50 yrs old.

For me it was very interesting because I wanted to cook myself during my stay on Bali: So I got many informations about the spices, vegetables, fruits you get on Bali which I didn`t knew before. Also the cookinge with the other australiens in the class was a good talk and meeting for me as the only German. Komang, our cook, showed us everything you should know about the cooking in Bali and now I try...... Thanks a lot for this great experience

We enjoyed the range of recipes we learned to cook and the techniques we learned to make them. The teacher was very good, but I felt he was a bit bossy at the beginning. Facilities were very good. The instructor seemed concerned about the safety of the food preparation, and that was good. It was very nice to eat together at the end. Overall an excellent experience.

Very nice class, Chef Bagus is both informative and entertaining. The staff were accommodating and made all the guests feel welcome. We have done many cooking classes in many vacation locations including 3 others in Bali. This one is best value for the price and especially if you only want to spend about 5 hours time. We thoroughly enjoyed the cooking, the comraderie, and the meal.

Chef Bagus is amazing in his humorous management of the class. Started at 9 am we learnd about ingredients in the local market. Back in the restaurant(also recommended for diner!) we started to prepare 12 Indonesian dishes in about 3 hours. At the end we eat that lovely food we maked together. I recommend this class to everyone.

This is a fun-filled cooking class. We helped prepare 9 dishes in total and the market tour is really good and informative which helped us a lot to understand more about the Bali culture and cuisine. Chef Bagus and his team did a wonderful job!

The class was very well organised and we did learn a bit about Balinese cooking although I would have preferred a more hands on experience. We didn't really get much opportunity to cook ourselves.

Chef Bagus and staff fabulous a greatvteacher. Learnt alot. Only improvement my group thought would be a help would be the oppurtunity to be taught and then use some knife skills in preparing ingredients Some of your competitors do this. This would stop us from doing the class again. But overall very hapoy with the class and cost very resonable. Overall 8/10 score.

Warung Nia cooking class was a fantastic day. The market tour was great in disovering the ingredients we would be using and the cooking class was amazing. Chef Bagus is both hilarious and knowledgeable and the food was beyond delicious.

It was my sisters birthday and I wanted to book something fun and different so I dragged her to this and she loved it! We even went back to the place for dinner the next day. Chef Bagus is so entertaining and knowledgeable. We interacted with people from different places and learnt so much too. Definitely a good way to spend an afternoon. The market tour was a bit of a letdown as it's a long explanation of basic vegetables and it was really hot but I would recommend it any day! Thank you.

Chef Bagus is very talented! He can cook, speak well and capture attention of audience/students, lead his team. The market tour should be an eye opener for visitors from non-Asian countries and was not different from our own markets at home. Learnt some tips and Indonesian cooking from him. It was fun although the pace was too fast and would have been better if there was either a smaller group or more time to do more hands on preparation and cooking. The notebook could not be followed at some point in time and we were trying to follow.

My friend and I booked this class the night before. It seemed like a good price and a good amount of time, as we were located in Legian and didn't want to travel too far. After being picked up and taken for a market tour, learning all about the different spices and ingredients used in Balinese cooking, we were driven to Warung Nia, where our cooking class took place. Chef Bagus runs this class, and if you can imagine your typical hardened, shouty chef but with a twinkle in his eye, that's Chef Bagus. He keeps you on your toes the whole time, asking you to pick the 'least hot' chilli, pushing you to create an amazing dish in ten minutes (and then after you stress slightly, he shows you exactly how you would do it) and as always, making sure you have a try. Go for the food, stay for Chef Bagus. You won't be disappointed.

My son and I did the course. We had a lovely day and saw some great meals cooked. I would have perhaps liked a little more hands on, even though we watched, actually doing it makes it sink in more. But, it was a lot of fun and our teacher Bagus, was very good, and funny. We learnt a lot about the Balinese/Indonesian cooking style.

This was such a fun and interesting experience!! Chef Bagus is an entertaining and very skilful cook. He taught us about life in Bali, the importance of food in celebrations and how to cook Balinese food even if we don't have all of the ingredients when we get home. Went here with my my wife. Great chef. Funny and informative. Show lots of different techniques and use of local product and home alternatives. Most ingredients prepared ahead of time to save time and fingers being cut off by inexperienced class. Got to mix most ingredients and see how balance can change by adding this or that. Supplied with recipe book with 12 recipes. Sat down and had lunch feast at end. Good value at $38aus. (5hrs) if you want professional class pay $300 to 500. Great for home chefs. Went back for dinner a few days later and chef Bagus came out of kitchens greeted us and had staff sing welcome song. Do yourself a favour. Try it.

My husband and I did the cooking class together and had so much fun. We would recommend the class for anyone who is interested to learn about and experience authentic balinese food.

We signed up for the Nia Cooking School on our last day in Bali, and we're so glad we did. Vagus was hilarious, and we learned how to cook 12 Balinese dishes. We loved the market tour and can't wait to cook these recipes when we get home!

My partner and I went to this class just before leaving Bali in August and had a really enjoyable time. Learnt lots, the chef was a great personality and met lots of people from around the world. Wish we had had more time to prep or cook the food ourselves but this was probably due to our lack of skills not the course! Would definitely recommend as it was one of the more affordable cooking classes in Seminyak but you didn't feel like you missed out! Thanks Nia's
