We set up Eat Osaka in the summer of 2014 to bring together some of our favourite things: meeting new people from around the world, spreading Japanese culture, and cooking delicious food! We were all born and raised in this area and learned to cook by watching our parents and grandparents in their own kitchens.
Our philosophy at Eat Osaka is that our cooking classes should not only be fun, but they should also give you the knowledge and skills to recreate our dishes back in your own kitchen. We will provide a detailed recipe for you to take home, but if you do forget anything, just send us a quick email we will be happy to help!
To run smoothly, our class must start on time. Latecomers interrupt the cooking process and it is not fair to disrupt the experience. Therefore, please aim to arrive at least 15 minutes early. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you may not be able to participate in our class at all.
Osaka is famous for many things but one of the things we love most about our home town are the summer festivals and especially the amazing festival food!
In this course, you will begin with our special home made yakitori sauce. Then, we will teach you the traditional (and very surprising!) method for making udon noodles from scratch which are then served “Osaka style” with fried tofu in a delicious soup.
We finish with chopstick okonomiyaki. This Osakan pancake is famous all over the country and comes filled with vegetables and herbs and topped with cheese, bonito flakes and our special okonomi bbq sauce! After the tasting time you will take a break with Japanese brown rice green tea.
Let's get cracking with welcome drink! 'Kanpai!'
If coming by taxi, its best to arrive at Tsutenkaku tower and walk the last 30 seconds using the map overleaf. To get to the tower, please show your driver the following: 通天閣タワー If coming by public transport, the closest stations are Ebiusucho on the Brown (Sakaisuji) subway line, Dōbutsuen-mae on the Red (Midosuji) subway line, or Shin-Imamiya on the JR Loop-line. The map overleaf should help you find us from these stations (please note ShinImamiya is right next to Dobutsuen-mae station).
