Malaysia is a country with a rich culture. The population consists of mainly Malay, Chinese and Indians and Malaysian food reflects the diversity of the people living here. The availability and mix of flavors and recipes are astounding. There are fusions or blends of these foods. An example of this is the "Nyonya" food which is a mix of Malay and Chinese ingredients. Or the Indian food which has also been assimilated with Malay food through mixed marriages of the Indian Malay people. The resultant is Mamak food, which is rich, satisfying and oh so delicious.
Malay food such as nasi lemak, chicken rendang and satay are gastronomical delights sending their eaters into foodie heaven.
So also Indian food, laced with spices and chili and served enticingly on a banana leaf; curries and breads are an exciting integration of North and South Indian Cuisines.
Chinese food, like Indian food, has also been assimilated with local cuisines and a favorite with locals and tourists alike. Stir fries, steamed dishes, soups and barbecued meats are widely available, extremely popular and a great experience too.
