Cooking Class at Tapa Tepi Kali

We had such a fun time learning about Balinese cooking. From ingredients used and then cooking a meal. It was a hands on experience. Highly recommended.

Our favourite experience in Bali. We had so much fun learning from Chef Aye. He was incredibly patient and explained everything thoroughly. We picked the chicken menu and the food we made was incredible. I appreciate learning all the different ways you can use one base. Would definitely return to do another menu.

The class was lots of fun! The chefs were good teachers, the instructions were clear, and the location was lovely. We were very happy with the results! Everything was delicious, and we can't wait to get home from our trip and try out the recipes in our own kitchens!

I had such a great experience at this Indonesian cooking class! The instructor was friendly and knowledgeable, guiding us through each step with ease. The ingredients were fresh, and the dishes we made were mostly delicious. We did the chicken menu option (menu 2). The class is in a covered, open air setting so wear something cool and comfortable.

It was brilliant. It was a very professional set up, that was well organised and beautifully executed. The food was amazing and an added bonus to eat it when finished. The certificate of completion was a lovely touch. Than you Stefan

The people were lovely. The menu was a bit basic, using the same base paste for 3 dishes. We all cooked everything together rather than each of us being responsible for our own station. It was more like 2 hours rather than 3. I would prefer a more varied menu and for each person to make their own food.

it was a super fun, educational and delicious cooking workshop. Everything was well explained and there was plenty of room to ask questions. I did this workshop together with my 88 year old mother who asked a lot. friendly staff. After cooking, our lunch consisted of soup, vegetables, fish parcel and the dessert we had made. great fun to do and get to know Balinese cuisine!

We booked our Balinese cooking class all through cookly and there were no issues from start to finish. We chose menu 2 and made a Balinese paste, green bean salad, chicken soup, chicken stay and crepes with palm sugar and coconut. All the ingredients were fresh. The paste was used in all courses except dessert. The chef and her apprentice were very friendly and knowledgeable and patient. Thank you to everyone including one of the girls who took photos for us.

We had fun cooking as a family. Chef was very friendly and informative. Food was very yummy but we could not finish it all. I would recommend this class for anyone.

Driver on the pickup was nice and the journey was quick. Everyone running and teaching the class was also great, thoroughly enjoyable!

The cooking class was led by very friendly people. The flavors were also delicious. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to do much ourselves. Many ingredients were already pre-cut and we were only allowed to cut small things ourselves. Apart from stirring in the communal pan, we did not do much else, which we thought was a pity.

Our group of 2 were the only ones so it turned out to be a private class. I expected it to be like the cooking class we experienced in Ubud (big group, highly informative, a lot of DIY and lessons on the ingredients and method itself) but it wasn’t like that. Because of the small class it was only an hour. Afterwards they presented the food nicely for us to have a dinner at. The place is also a hotel and looks really nice

The chef showed and explained the different ingredients to us. We could smell all the different ingredients. The meal was pretty good and she gave us the instrctions to make the class a great succes!

We had a great time at the cooking class. We booked it thinking we’d be in a group but it turned out to be just us which was great! Our chef was really lovely and knowledgeable about all the food. We loved learning about Basa Gede and how it’s used in lots of dishes. They were also really accommodating for dietary requirements and specific needs/foods we didn’t like. Overall it was really fun and we’d certainly recommend it.

Awesome cooking class. We could choose the dishes ourselves and then start by explaining the ingredients and letting us smell and taste them. They took the time and made us feel like we did great. They also told us how to substitute the ingredients if we didn't have them back home or wanted some variation. We got the recipes and a certificate and I'm absolutely going to cook everything again on a regular basis when I'm home. Thank you all so much!!!

This class was such a great hands-on introduction to Balinese cooking! Chef Adi and the other staff were incredibly supportive and we had a lot of fun learning and enjoying delicious food. The team was able to cater to our multiple and specific dietary needs. The pickup service was a great addition. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who wants to immerse themselves in Balinese cuisine and have a lot of fun!

Chef Adi was really cool, and his team was on hand to help with anything you needed. The food we cooked was well-explained and authentic with recipes to take home provided. We did menu 1 which was fish-based, and were happy with our choice!

Kochkurs: mein Partner und ich haben den Kochkurs die Location ist super schön und modern. Es gibt nur 1 Herdplatte, das ist vielleicht etwas unpraktisch, größtenteils wechselt man sich beim Kochen dann ab. Man kocht 4 Gerichte, eine Suppe, eine Hauptspeise und eine Nachspeise. Das Personal war echt super freundlich und lieb und hat uns alles genaustens erklärt. Auch für Vegetarier war ein Menü zur Verfügung. Ich kann den Kochkurs wärmstens weiterempfehlen:)

The staff are so friendly. Chef was very patient in explaining the steps and allow me to be very hands on. Read about how a lot of classes don’t really let them actually cook but this one does. Learnt alot and can’t wait too cook Balinese food for my friends and family :)

Took my large family of 9, and we all got to cook together. It was a really lovely family activity if you're staying in the Canggu area! The class was tailored to all skill levels, and it was amazing to see the variety that can be created from a single base ingredient. The chef was great, and all the drinks were included. Super easy to find! I would recommend this class.

A great few hours learning how to cook some very tasty Balinese dishes. I really enjoyed the class as it was very organised and the chef was a great teacher and explained all the ingredients and the dishes we were preparing very well. I chose the Chicken Option. I was also given a print out of all the recipes we made with all the ingredients listed as well as the method of cooking. I enjoyed it so much that I am going to do the Seafood option cooking class this week!

Loved my Indonesian cooking class in Bali at Tapa Tepa Kali, Changuu. Chef Adi explained everything very clearly and I loved his choice of dishes. With his help, I learned to make base sauce, soup, long beans with coconut, traditional chicken sate skewers & sweet coconut dessert pancakes. I then ate the delicious lunch & was provided with take away for the rest. Included in US$30 price was: lessons, lunch, take away and pick up from my Changuu hotel. I am moderate level home cook. But course can be tailored for beginners and professionals chefs. Both driver Bali and Chef Adi had excellent English and were extremely courteous and helpful. Highly recommend !!!

I had a private cooking class because nobody else signed up for that day. The cook and his team were awesome, super friendly and very sociable! We did great dishes, everything was super fresh and I had a lot of fun. Would highly recommend!!

Seven of us (one group of five plus one group of two) cooked vegetarian menu 3, and had an enjoyable time. We cooked five different courses, including Bade Gede which was used throughout a number of dishes. The food was fresh and everyone had the opportunity to ask questions and get involved. Please note we all cooked as one group around one stove as opposed to seven different benches; still worked well but just different to what I’ve experienced before.

I choose the vegetarian menu and this was a really cool compact class. Very friendly chef and helpers :) We looked at local ingredients then we made a paste which we used in every savoury dish. One base paste for all! We also made a desert. It was quick but well explained. Eating the food at the end was delicious and a highlight!

We had a fantastic experience in this class! Learning to cook a new cuisine we’re not commonly used to was a great holiday activity, and one that’s provided us with long term skills and knowledge for the future, we can’t wait to cook these recipes for our friends at home!

Head chef was very informative and allowed us to join in. We were surprised by how easy it was to create different, flavourful dishes for a meal with just 1 base paste. It was great to have so many helpers giving us attention and assisting with everything. We didn't have to clean anything! Thank you for the fun experience team!

We had a great experience with all the gang in Tapa Tepi Kali! The class showed us how to make traditiona Balinese dishes in a simple way which we can definitely recreate at home!

Really enjoyed the cooking class. Fresh food, good explanation of the ingredients, friendly chef. We made a base paste and used it to make 3 different dishes, followed by a dessert. Then enjoyed the food 🥰

I enjoyed a lot my cooking class at Tapa Tepi Kali. Everybody was very nice to me :) The food is easy too cook and tastes really delicious. I was alone because nobody else joined the class. I felt very comfortable with all the staff. I definitely recommend the class to anybody!

We had made a spontaneous booking and the staff was so extremely friendly and helpful and did everything possible to make it a positive experience for us. Our chef cook was very talented and explained us a few ticks and tricks and it was a very fun experience at the same time. We actually had a whole class just for my wife and me, very romantic. Unfortunately I was caught up in traffic driving from Kuta and arrived 20minutes late. No worries, the staff made me so welcomed and proceeded to teach me how to cook the most beautiful Bali chicken recipes. And then allowed my friend to join me whilst I ate my meal…. Thank you hardly seems enough. 👏💕

The experience was amazing. Our chef explained all the ingredients we were using and let us chop and cook ourselves. It was so much fun to watch him preparing an example and then trying ourselves. It is fascinating that meals that are made with similar ingredients can taste so differently. In the end we got to take home the left overs and the crew was as nice to make an extra pancake for my husbands birthday. I highly recommend this cooking class!!

Personal service, clean tidy and friendly. Great English communications. Would highly recommend this it others. We did as a work team building event having to work together. The dish we made was 3 courses and very tasty. I have had very little cooking experience. Was great to use local foods and spices FRESH. Great time

The class was great, would definitely recommend it! The only downside was how hot it was, but, Bali! Plenty of cold water on hand and they did their best to cool the restaurant down. we were all made to feel very welcome and after putting on aprons and chefs hats we were put to work chopping up the ingredients for the local Balinese cuisine, and learning about each dish along the way. We also taste tested as we were making the food, and got to season it as we wished. The end result, dishes that we sat down to, to enjoy for lunch were amazing! And we can’t wait to attempt these dishes now back home in Australia!

Wanted to do a quick class in learning some local dishes, with the hope of taking knowledge back home !!! The class was great !!! Learning to make Gede (Balinese paste) and then applying it to a range of soups, entrees and mains was fun and tasty ! Highly recommend - I was fortunate enough to have a solo class - but imagine a group would be lots of fun too !

I've been to Bali several times but this was one of my favorite experiences ever! Upon arrival me and my two friends were greeted with a cold drink and big smiles. The staff spoke excellent English and were so friendly - we did most of the cooking with their guidance which was so fun. Additionally, we were the only people in the group which made it extra special. During the course the chef and staff learned that my one friend wanted spicy (while two of us were hesitant) and they added some additional spice for her after bringing the food out for us to enjoy. We were given an adorable certificate saying we had completed the class, and the general manager of the hotel came and personally thanked us for finding and booking on cookly. This was such a gem of an experience and I want to thoroughly express how much fun we had and how delicious the food was. I will be telling everyone to take a class here if staying in Canggu! 10/10 recommend!

Nice environment, very friendly people (both the cook as the other staff), the food was very good. It was very well arranged because the pick up was included. The only negative comment I would give is that the cook did a lot himself. Sometimes he should have given us instructions. Also, with 4 people, there wasn’t much to do for everyone.

We learned a lot and really enjoyed the class. We were fortunate enough to be the only couple in the class that day which made the experience even more special. After exploring Indonesia for 3 weeks, it was great to learn about the various spices and wonderful flavors this country has to offer. The chef was nice and patient and answered all of our questions. We would highly recommend this class to everyone.

We love cooking and loved learning how to cook authentic Balinese dishes with our own private chef. Everything was prepared before we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and briefed on what was going to happen. We had one on one personal interaction with the Chef Novita, she was very knowledgeable and explained everything to us. We enjoyed our own food after the cooking class and it was amazing, Highly recommend!

Really enjoyed the class. The staff were very attentive and friendly and we learned a lot about the Balinese culture through the story of their traditional cuisine.

Very friendly Chefs helped our little class of 2 people. We got lucky and basically had a private class. Very easy to do each task. Only problem is we made way too much for just 2 of us! We shared our lunch with the chefs and other staff. Will be recreating our dishes back at home.

The class was a little “hands-off”, with our chef doing most of the cooking for us. This would make it an ideal class if you were a bit tired after a big night or a big day, but a bit anti-climatic if you were hoping to get stuck in. The end result/s was delicious and we will be attempting at home

We bookend with cookly cooking class for 3 days upfront but then our plans changed and the Tapa Tepi was able to welcome us two days earlier. Which was really great. They also picked us up free of charge in our hotel in Canggu area. It was just two of us and the chef and other personal from the hotel, this gave us great oportunity to ask many questions, take our time and just really relax and enjoy while cooking :) The staff was extremely kind,polite and were making sure we feel comfortable. We cooked 4 course menu which we then ate. Overall nice experience with nice staff.

The staff were delightful and the venue was lovely. Compared to other cooking classes i have done in bali the menu was basic and could have had a couple more courses. We also kept our aprons. Also would be a good idea to have a sign on road about cooking class. I think it is a new venture and will improve with experience.

Great experience

We had a really nice time there, it was only the two of us actually (we thought that small group means 4-6 people, but it was only my friend and me which was pretty cool), the food was sooooooooo delicious (we had a vegan menu), the chef and the staff is super friendly and the chef explained a lot about the ingredients, the food and balinese tradition all the time. Definitely worth it!!

The staff at Tapa Tepi Kali were so great! We had a wonderful time learning menu 2 and will be able to make the dishes on our own without hesitation. I would recommend to everyone who wants to bring the taste of Bali home with them and want a very enjoyable experience. 5 stars without a doubt!

My children gave the Cooking Class to my husband for his Birthday. There was 6 of us and we had the class to ourselves. We all had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the following dinner. The chefs were incredibly nice and very patient. A really fun experience!

This was the most perfect Hotel to complete our class. My son, his girlfriend and myself were all able to actively participate in the cooking and were encouraged to do so by our host. I was alone for the lesson. They were so kind and helpful, so happy to give me information and knowledge about traditionnal Balinese cooking. I learn about the products, ingredients we find only in Bali and 4 recipes I can easily do again back home. I enjoyed this experience.
