Ketut's Bali Cooking Class

100% enjoyed this cooking class. The staff was friendly, patient and helpful. I loved that the stations were kept clean as we went through the cooking. The food we made was my favorite Balinese cuisine since arriving in Bali. If you’re looking for fun while learning something about the culture and cuisine Ketut’s cooking class is the best.

All was organized perfectly, pick up, the coocking-class itself. We had a fine group. All was ready, well explained and there was a lot of humor, brought by the chefs. The food was delicious. Thank you !!

Well-arranged, you will be picked up from the center of Ubud and was really fun to do and really very tasty. Definitely do it for a special experience!!

We had such a great time, from start to finish. The organization was very slick, a really well-oiled machine. We were collected from our hotel, and then because we took the morning class we went to the market. Our driver /guide explained some of the foods to us, and we had the opportunity to buy spices, tea, and coffee. After that, we went to the cooking school, which is professionally kitted out with room for maybe 20 people. You can make a meat/fish, vegetarian, or vegan meal, as you like. The food you cook is what you eat, so you can adjust the spice and seasoning levels to your taste. The staff explain how to do everything, and are always on hand if you need help. After you've cooked, you sit down to enjoy your dishes and have the recipes to take home with you to recreate your holiday in your home kitchen. I would highly recommend this class.

Ketut and his family were so kind and hilarious throughout our cooking class! Everyone gave us knowledge about the dishes we were making and even got the recipes after to try again at home. We booked the morning class so Ketut’s family showed us around the local market and showed us all the ingredients we would be using later on. The dishes were all amazing, and the people so loving. Recommend to everyone visiting Ubud!

Our experience at this cook school was amazing. The teacher was very good at being able to custom the instructions to everyone’s ability. Our food was so delicious. I’ll definitely go home and recreate.

Fun and informative way to spend half a day learning great basic skills

Ketut’s cooking class was a fantastic experience. The food we made was delicious and they give you the recipes to take home. Staff were awesome and made the experience so much more enjoyable. It is hands on with the prep but with some of the dishes they cook the food for you while you make the dish, which we liked as we didn’t want to spend the whole day cooking and just wanted to eat the food once we started to smell it!

Made and the rest of the team were just so lovely - funny and totally informative and helpful - The entire class was very impressed. We cooked so much food, we couldn't eat it all for lunch so we were provided take-away containers - was awesome - got us through dinner as well !!! The food was so incredibly fresh and the market tour in the morning was a genuine local experience - Couldn't recommend this more !!!!

The class was so much fun! Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed it. Plus all the people are so friendly and happy for everyone to be there. Definitely would recommend giving it a go!

I enjoy the class, the food and the market tour with Ketut. We where only four student and there was all the time someone to give clear indications so it was nice. Recipe and food was delicious. But it was very "expeditious". We finished before 12pm so I think we only cooked for less than 2 hours while it was described that we should cook for 3h and finish around 1:30 or 2pm if my memory is good. And I really had the feeling that they rush us to finish as soon as possible. At the end, they don't make us cooked 2 of the recipes despite we had plenty of time ahead. Also the recipes given at the end of the class were not exactly as we cooked it (shorter with less details). So at the end, I think it is gonna be difficult to reproduce them at home. So to conclude, it is a nice experience if you like to spend 3h having fun in the kitchen and eat a good balinese meal (because definitively it was very good =D). But if you really want to take the time to learn, it is probably not the good place. But is there one here in Ubud ? I don't know :)

We cooked our own food to our own taste, able to add more chilli if we wanted. The food was delicious. Ketut was so entertaining and enthusiastic. We laughed and had loads of fun. Then ate our delicious food - so much of it, couldn’t eat it all!

The teacher was super friendly, funny and happy to accomodate to different dietary requirements, as myself and my friend who I booked with are vegetarian. I loved how the course integrated traditional methods of cooking, and particularly taught us how to make an array of different dishes from one base. I also enjoyed taking the afternoon course because there were only four people including myself doing it, which felt like a more intimate group. They provided us with a recipe book at the end, which I can't wait to use. Thanks for having us!

Finally a cooking class where you actually get to cook everything yourself, 100% hands on. So glad we chose Ketut's cooking class. What a wonderful morning we had! Great driver for pick up & drop off & friendly guide for the market.(would have preferred to have skipped the market part as not particularly pleasant) The whole team throughout the cooking class was Fabulous. Everything very well coordinated and organised. Fun and entertaining and food was delicious. Skip breakfast! Always taken care of with cold bottled water. Very accomodating for Vegetarians & recipes to take home a bonus.

All of the chefs/teachers were incredible, so patient and funny and lovely! The head chef, Ketut, is the funniest man I’ve ever met and all of the chefs are his family so it’s a really lovely vibe and they all follow in his kind footsteps. The menu was so vast and gave us so many new skills. The food was all delicious and I have an allergy which they catered to really well. Couldn’t recommend this cooking class more! Best day.

Easy tips and fully hands on, we couldn’t believe we made all these dishes in such a short amount of time and they were all tasting amazing! It was super organised , tasty food, cool cooking teachers and everything was perfect.

We loved Ketuts class, he is a very entertaining, humorous man who was a good teacher. His helpers that came around to assist us were lovely also. We enjoyed cooking all the food and learning how to make Indonesian specialities including the sauces. It was also all absolutely delicios. They also easily catered for us as we are vegans.

This was our second Bali cooking experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I took my mum with us this time and she loved it. We learnt how to make coconut oil, and we made a great variety of Balinese food. Everything we made we got to eat. So delicious! The staff had great energy and really made the day fun. Highly recommend this Ubud cooking experience. Thanks Ketut and team!

Such a lovely thing to do in Ubud.. ! Ketut is an amazing and very entertaining teacher and his family and support staff are incredibly efficient and wonderful. The class runs seamlessly and you learn an incredible amount in a very short period. The market tour is also a really nice feature even though I had been to the early morning market the was a lot that was lost on me before visiting with Ketut's nephew. I am a professional chef and found the level of cooking very high but could also see that it was suitable for all levels because the team is so supportive. Highly recommended!

The cooking class was awesome. The tour on the market was really interesting and if you want to learn something about the local fruits, vegetables and spices I recommend the market tour. The cooking class was so much fun, the teachers Are great and they look After everybody. My girlfriend and I did a vegan Menu which was great! I would also recommend to come with an empty belly Because you will get more than enough food. Thanks for everything!:)

Wir waren in der Vormittagsklasse bei Ketut und seiner Familie - es war echt mit einer der besten Vormittage in Ubud! Es war informativ und wir hatten so viel Spaß mit Ketut und seiner Kochschule. Er ist einfach großartig und sowas von lustig! Es gab wunderbare Infos, tolle Gerichte, alles war top und gut vorbereitet. Unser selbstgekochtes Essen durften wir dann natürlich genießen und es war einfach phantastisch! Wir machen diesen Kochkurs beim Nächsten Mal bestimmt wieder mit - Absolute Empfehlung!

The choice of dishes was good. Very friendly staff & all day was a very enjoyable experience. Perhaps it would be good to eat 1st few dishes, then cook again.

Chef Ketut, his wife, and members are kind and funny. Don't worry about cooking, it's really fun. Food was great, that was the best food I had eaten there. It was a great experience!

As a vegetarian, my requests were very well catered. They made sure that my cousin and I got everything that we needed and learn dishes aligned to our demand. The traditional market tour was really important for me since i am very meticulous in choosing my vegetables. The people in the market were very kind and helped me understand the possible alternatives. This part of the class really showed Indonesian culture and traditional way of getting the fresh ingredients. We had a hands on Balinese cooking class which was conducted in English, Ketut was very warm, accommodating and funny. We all had a sumptuous dinner before heading back to the hotel.

Chef Ketut, his wife and all the staff members are super nice and sooooo funny, with a big smile on the face and cracking jokes all the time. They make you really feel welcome and cooking an enjoyable experience! And the food was super delicious. In the beginning I thought the portions look really small but you are cooking so many different things, I couldn't finish everything and they packed the leftovers for me to take away. Everything is well explained and if you have some questions you can just ask and they will explain it to you again or in more detail. I definitely recommend this cooking class, it was a great experience!

I absolutely would recommend this class and experience the staff was so nice and funny and the food was amazing. Beware that the market visit is not the cleanest. You do not pick up food there for the class so you don’t need to worry about that. I thought it was an amazing cultural experience that I could of never done on my own. Thank you so much Ketut!

Had the best time...

Being vegan I wasn’t sure if my needs could be catered for but beleive me, the team really looked after me giving me plenty of options. They made sure to cook my food (Tempe, tofu etc) before any meat. When we got picked up we had to wait at the markets for a while and in my honest opinion it was unecessary to do the market tour since when we got to the venue to cook they explained everything all over again. When we arrived at the venue we were a little surprised at the amount of people. 3 groups of 12. We weren’t sure if we would get enough individual attention but again, pleasantly surprised that a teacher was available whenever we needed. The instructions were clear and the staff were enthusiastic and funny. We were served a welcome tea and were given free bottles of cold water throughout the day. The food was AMAZING and it wasn’t rushed. We did skip back and forth preparing 6 different dishes so it was hard to follow the receipe but they gave us a book to take home which was great. A non vegetarian and a vegetarian option. So grateful for this! The ingredients were fresh and the variety of menu was great too. Would definitely recommend to friends and would return again to try a new menu! Thanks again to the team for helping with my diet restrictions. We had a blast and had huge food babies at the end!

Food was great. Class was very well organised. Staff was super friendly and walked around continoualy to clean up your cooking space, get ready new ingredients for the next dish, check if you were doing it right, etc. was a great deal too, got picked up and dropped off, market tour was super fun (wouldnt have dared to enter ourselves tbh), and we got to eat a delicious 5 course menu! Would def recommend!

My husband and I love cooking so we thought we would do a cooking class while on holiday in Bali. We strongly recommend Katuts cooking class. It was informative. Lots of variety of dishes. Very well organised and another great way of learning about Bali culture.

Everything about this experience was fabulous. We were picked up from our villa, explored the market with Ketut and got to taste some of the foods there. We were then drive to the cooking school where we were walked through each step of the class. It was all hands on with lots of assistants to help - all willing to answer questions and help out as required. Finally we got to eat - so much food that we could t eat it all so we took the left overs home with us! We did this class with our 18 and 19 yr old children who also loved it. Many thanks to Ketut and his wife and family for having us - it was a great family experience.

From the moment Ketut picked us up from our hotel he was entertaining, warm and funny. Ketut gave us a tour of Ubud market where he introduced us to the interesting fruit, vegetables herbs and spices used in Balinese cooking. From the market we were driven to Ketuts cooking school where we had such a great time learning how to prepare beautiful Balinese food. Ketut made the day with his quirky style and culinary skills. The staff were also of great assistance. To finish we sat down to an enormous feast before being driven back to the hotel. Highly recommend Ketut’s cooking school.

Ketut’s cooking class was easy to book online and we had a free transport from our hotel. We decided for an afternoon class and didn’t visit the market. That however didn’t spoil the whole fun! Not only you learn about ingredients you also prepare your food traditional way (all manual labour so ;-) Overall a perfect way to discover the culture of Bali, just go for it!

Morning pickup was on time, followed by a very entertaining and informative tour through the Ubud produce market. We were then driven out to Ketut’s kitchen in a beautiful rural setting only 10 mins from central Ubud. It was all spotlessly clean, well equipped and we all had individual ‘stations’ and lots of assistance from Ketut’s very helpful staff. Ketut’s instructions were clear and he and his staff made the whole cooking experience so much fun. Ingredients were all fresh and the finished dishes were delicious! Very happy to recommend this class to all.

Our instructor was one of the happiest guys I've ever met, and so passionate about sharing 'the Bali way' of cooking, whilst joking and smiling the whole way through.

I had a fabulous time at Bapak Ketut's cooking class. First of all, it was very well-organized and well-payed out. Ingredients were fresh and the recipes were easy to follow and yet so delicious. It was so nice and rewarding to eat all the delicious dishes we had cooked ourselves! But most of all, it was the charm of the jolly Pak Ketut himself that made the event completely worth it. He was so much fun and funny, we were all in stitches from laughing so much. He was the icebreaker and even though I went by myself, at the end of the morning, I felt friendly with everyone. Thank you so much!! Will try the recipes when I get home!

The whole experience was exceptional! Market guide was informative and spot on with how he worked with his group. Made our cooking instructor and all the helpers were amazing! We made almost everything except the bananas for dessert which Made showed us how to make as they were so simple but needed to simmer. I worked with a partner to make all of our meal. Someone was there to help whenever we needed it and it was all done with a smile (there was only room for 5 pairs in the kitchen set up)! I couldn't rank this experience higher! Topped off the experience when Ketut - who was working with another group - walked around chatting with all during and after the meal. Such a friendly and happy experience! If ever back inUbud I'll do it again!

This is the 3rd cooking class we have done in Bali and is by far the best. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We got to do everything from start to finish , not just a stir here and there. The end result was delicious meals.

Ketut's school is very well set up and professional and every way. In taking care of students individual needs to the knowledge passed on to students on the finer arts of Balinese cooking.

I really enjoyed my class. I love to cook and Ketut's class gave me the edge for when I return home and start cooking my Balinese curries, satays and treats for family and friends. Wonderful 1/2 day, highly recommend you do it! Mary - Australia

Ketut was great value. We had lots of laughs. The class was well organised and we got to make everything from scratch rather than just watch which was what we wanted. There was lots of food and it was all delicious. I'd definitely recommend this class.

A fun filled experience. Good food interesting new people and great instruction. Throughly recommend the class to people who love to cook and try new experiences.

The class itself was amazing, Ketut and his chefs are brilliant - informative, knowledgeable, and just so much fun! Learning the sauces which you can then add to any dish was really good as you can then experiment yourself. Just one slight negative - we booked the afternoon option and this didn't include a market trip even though it said it does on the itinerary. Don't feel it detracted from the experience at all but worth noting.

We were really lucky one rainy afternoon we found ourselves at the top of Bali in a private class for our family. In the morning they had 16 people so we felt very lucky. We made beautiful food under very patient guidelines. Very recommended. However, we did think we were making vegetarian dishes but they weren't. Not a problem for us but might have been for someone else.

The class hosts are just the best – amazing sense of humour and full of laughter. Really patient with everyone and willing to accommodate people with allergies and other dietary requirements. The day starts off with a tour of the market in Ubud which is amazing. They will help you barter to get stuff at the locals' prices. The lesson itself is outside the town in an amazing setting, and you make so many dishes, then all sit down together for the feast. A great way to socialise and pick up some new skills while you're at it. The food was amazing.

The cooking class with Ketut was one of the best thing we did in Ubud. Apart from the fun class, Ketut is funny and lovely guy. We learn and enjoy our time here since we cook 4 dishes with fresh ingredients. We decided that we definitely will come back again if we have a chance. This will be one of our unforgettable experience so far.

Ketut is a warm and entertaining host, the chef and his staff were friendly and speak well English. The chef explained how the ingredients work well together. Then we made our own tasty dishes. It was such a valuable and enjoyable time!

I love to cook and I do a cooking class in every country I visit. This class was wonderful. The market tour in Asian countries is pretty standard and this was no different. We were a small class and we were all quite knowledgeable about the ingredients in the market.. What I loved was the cooking. The staff were fabulous. Everything was explained very well. We started by making 3 sauces and then used these as the basis for all our dishes. I was the only vegetarian so my dishes were vegetarian examples of the meat dishes cooked. I loved the cooking of the food but what a feast when we finished. A fabulous day. Highly recommended.

Chef Ketut was pretty good at letting us try all the different. Foods available at the morning market in Ubud. And also good at making sure we got the local prices if we wanted to buy some stuff. The class itself was well organized and very good value for money considering we made around 10 dishes. Food was good. And be catered to vegetarian/vegan.

First of all we really appreciated the free hotel pick up in Ubud. The class was superb and the staff very friendly and funny. We really enjoyed this class and would highly recommend it! Definitely a must do when in Ubud! Thank you!
