We started with a fascinating tour of a market for locals with our excellent chef and guide, Jason/T, who named ingredients, talked about the people and their lives, and we compared prices with UK. Then into the village for the cooking class. Jason is a really good teacher who put everyone at ease and worked with us each step of the way. He was funny and considerate. We made banana blossom salad, chicken amok and pumpkin custard which were absolutely delicious. Jason was able to suggest alternative ingredients for things we can't get back home and talked about his career as a chef and other jobs, the orphanage they set up and life in Cambodia. It was so interesting. We also had a little look around the site and saw rice growing at different stages. The cooking was outside (under cover) and on wood stoves. We all really enjoyed it, even our teenager who had been a bit nervous. A great introduction to Cambodian cooking. Definitely recommend.
The visit to the market was very interesting. The herbs in the garden were wonderful and it was a great experience to smell all the different ingredients. The instructor was very kind and explained the cooking in an easy to understand way, and I was able to make Khmer dishes. They were very delicious. I highly recommend this class.
I booked this course for me, my partner and my mum as something fun to do one evening while we were in Siem Reap. We ended up being the only ones in the class and had a really hands on and personal experience which was amazing. We were collected from our hotel by tuktuk and taken to a local market which was fab, then driven to the location of the cooking class. All the staff involved were super helpful and really made our evening one to remember- plus the food was delicious! Perfect activity year round, but especially in the wet season as the kitchen is outdoors yet still well covered.
Our guide and instructor Sorya was informative, thoughtful, thorough, and fun! We had such an interesting look into Khmer cuisine. Learned about market shopping, toured the garden where all the herbs and vegetables we cooked with are grown and made delicious courses with excellent ingredients. 10/10 would recommend!
It was a pleasant and enjoyable experience in a quiet place far from the city center. Here, almost all of the ingredients we cook with are grown directly in the garden and farm next door, so we can eat the freshest dishes. During the cooking class, all staff spared no effort to provide cool bottled water, protection from insects, and temperature control. They thoroughly protected us from almost all hazards such as knife cuts, scalding, and oil hazards were eliminated while cooking. In particular, the teacher's English skills were very good, and he told us many interesting and detailed stories about Khmer cuisine, as well as Cambodia's history, culture, and citizens' lives. I highly recommend this cooking class experience to anyone visiting Siem Reap.
This was an exceptional cooking class. I chose it specifically because it was outside of Siem Reap and I wasn’t disappointed. The local market was a great insight into life as it is. Nothing about this class felt ‘manufactured’ for tourists. The recipes were well explained and fun to create with the expert guidance of chef Ty and support from their Master Chef. I thoroughly recommend this experience for an authentic cooking experience of local food.
The cooking class with Sorya was a great experience! I loved the market visit and learning about all the plants in her garden. Each person gets to choose which 4 dishes they want to make which was nice. All the food tasted really great! I can't wait to try making the dishes at home 😊
Can’t recommend this class enough. Completely exceeded our expectations, Thy was an incredible host and is so knowledgeable. We got to see the local markets and learn about certain fruits and veg, an experience you couldn’t appreciate fully without a guide. We then got to the class were Thy explained how they support the orphanage which was really touching, amazing work they are doing. We had such a fun afternoon and came away with new techniques and appreciation for Khmer cooking. All in all, one of the best days I’ve experienced in Cambodia and would highly recommend you to book! Thank you again Thy and Master Chef
This was amazing where we had a local experience. We went to a unique market and learned about some of the foods that we later cooked with. The class was great and we learned skills that can be used at home. The food was delicious and unique. Lastly the guide spoke excellent English and taught us step by step through the cooking process. Overall a great experience and would recommend to anyone!
This class was great. We had a tour around the local market first, then off to the family home where we had a tour of the garden. Beautiful vegetables and herbs which you get to harvest some to go into some of your dishes. This class offers options and they were more than happy to accommodate us vegetarians. Not forgetting the food is delicious! Such a lovely family/ hosts
That was a very good start of the day. I like cooking and participate in cooking classes. This one was excellent. Tuk tuk took me from my hotel and with rest of the group we rode to the cooking place where we firstly went to the local market to get some explanation of ingredients that we will be using. Later we collected herbs from their garden and started to cook four meals that we could choose from the list. Everything was very well explained in nice and friendly atmosphere At the end we enjoyed food that we cooked and when was finished tuk tuk took us back to hotels We also get a recipe book in pdf, so now I can cook it again at my home
The class we took was really cool. Our instructor Tea picked us up at our hotel from where we went to a local market. He walked us around and we even got to try crickets. At the cooking class‘ site we started to prepare our 3-course-menu. It was really fun and we enjoyed our time cooking and having it tasted after.
A very pleasurable, informative and delicious experience. The local market tour offers a plethora of vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, etc… Everything you could possibly need for your gourmet creation. The staff are all friendly and extremely helpful. Very laid-back and comfortable environment. A small garden provides the necessary accents to your entrees, likewise the attention to your food prep detail and presentation are equally noteworthy. From my tuk tuk ride to/from the hotel, market tour, cooking lessons and my subsequent wolfing down my creations… a very memorable experience. Wished I could have stayed longer. SIX STARS!
We really can recommend the cooking-class with Ben. He picked us up at our hotel and showed us a beautiful market outside of Siem Reap with an typing out typical cambodian vegetables and fruits. After that we went to the cooking- place and prepared a wounderful 3 course menu together! Furthermore Ben is helping underpriviliged and orphaned children from the neighbourhood around and helps his community with it!
Seeing the market before cooking was a nice touch. The food was good and fun to cook and it was great seeing their house and garden.
