Linda and I had a wonderful cooking experience today, lead by Jay(Akha Tribe). First he took us to a local market and purchased the meat, fish and vegetables we would require. He thoroughly explained each of our 7 or 8 dishes that each person attending chose to make. This made it so much easier for us to prepare and complete each dish. We all sat and ate what we prepared and had about 3 sittings so I suggest you don't have a large breakfast before this wonderful and culturally culinary experience. Highly recommended.

This was the only cooking class we did in Thailand, and we were told by our cooking meats but it was definitely the best one they had been to! Jaru was an excellent hostess. Everything wais personalized, luxurious, well prepared, and of course delicious. Our trip through the market was at a very relaxed pace, complete with complementary coffee‘s and coconut ice cream which was amazing! She taught us a lot about how to shop local. Once we got back to her house, everything was so beautiful and the refreshing fruit and drinks before we started was a nice touch. Throughout the course of the class, we were told many stories of the Akha tribe and enjoyed getting to know Jaru better as well :-) apparently at other classes you don’t really do much cooking, you just throw the ingredients together, but here we got to slice, dice, crush, smash all the ingredients! It was so fun! It also went 2 hours longer than was advertised, which wasn’t a problem for us, actually pretty amazing, but just a heads up! Jaru was wonderful and her helpers gave us the best day ever!
First, we went to the local market where we could try different things and learned a lot. The kitchen was very well equipped and we got an answer to all of our many questions. The food we cooked was delicious. Highly recommended!
Jaru was amazing. Her story and her ethic are fantastic. She creates an experience for each individual in the class. The presentation is impeccable and her work stations are immaculate. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. She is professionally trained but presents the class as if you are a guest in her home. All the benefits of a professional cooking school and all the fun of an informal gathering of friends. An absolutely wonderful class. Go, to Chiang Rai, take a cooking class with Akha Cooking School. Support this great young team!
We tasted many street foods and learned how to shop for our meal. Jaruwan is a great chef and an amazing teacher. Clean, professional, and functional set up. We had a great time. And the food was delicious!
Really great cooking class with Jaruwan and the others. We were taken to the local market first and then to ahka kitchen where we prepared amazing dishes and even made our own curry! The staff is really nice and everything is very well organised!
Jaruwan is Thai/Akha and speaks very good English, including cooking terms. The premises and equipment are all new and very high-spec. Her backup team prepare the ingredients for each course and clear things away, so guests focus on preparation and eating. In addition to the usual Thai dishes, you get to prepare an Akha dip, rather like nam prik ong. I can highly recommend this to anyone who has visitors who are interested in Thai cooking and how those delicious flavors are prepared.
Not only will you meet beautiful nature, lovely local people but also you’ll be introduced to akha and Thai food in a fun and enjoyable cooking class where you learn more about the akha culture and how to cook some of these delicious dishes. I highly recommend everyone to try this cooking class.
Akha Kitchen is truly professional from start to finish. It is hosted in a beautiful setting, is well-decorated and comfortable. Everything is clean and hygienic. The class itself is wonderful and Jaru, Da and Armee made it fun too! We would definitely recommend it.
