My family took a similar class in Cabo last year and had a wonderful and memorable time. When I knew that we were going to be going to Huatulco this spring I made it a priority to seek out cooking class experiences that resembled this model. I chose Wahaca Cooking School because of all of the positive online reviews mentioning classes led by Alfredo. Unplanned, but it also turned out the cooking school was a short 2 minute walk from our hotel. It couldn’t be more convenient! Along with my family of three, there were a several other groups of one and two in our class. We made tacos (chicken, beef, shrimp & fish) fresh from scratch bottom to top along with some salsas to accompany them. Along the way we heard many anecdotes from Alfredo that drive his passion for cooking. We learned the criteria for a perfect tortilla and discovered just the level of skill required to achieve it…we will be practicing that for a long time😂 In short, we had so much fun doing this hands-on adventure. It never felt like “class”. We met a bunch of great folks from Canada and no one left hungry after we sat down to enjoy the fruits of our efforts in creating a taco fiesta. I hope I am lucky enough to return to Huatulco. Seeking out the mole and tamale classes will be first on my list!
An amazing day.... learned so much ... cooking folklore.... traditions ... AND I can make a Mexican fiesta,,,, Thank you
Alfredo was a great instructor. It was all hands-on cooking class. We also learnt about the Huatulco area and the people. Everyone seemed to really enjoyed it, especially our food and drinks that we made. I would take another class for sure. Great learning experience. 🍍🍉🌮🍹 Angela Parks
We had the pleasure to learn how to cook traditional mexican dishes with Alfredo. We had a great time, Alfredo is such a good teacher and I can't wait to try the recipes at home. I will for sure impress my friends! He made us feel at home in his kitchen, we felt like we were cooking with a friend. We would have stayed the whole day speaking with Alfredo, listening to his stories and learning about the food and the history of Huatulco. Thank you very much Alfredo, it was a real pleasure meeting you!
Your adventure will not be complete without trying Oaxacan street food. My friend from the hotel recommended this cooking class and it was worth the try. The class was held in a school at the village of Zimatan which is a 20-25 minute drive from the main district. While learning how to prepare their local street food, our chef was very kind in sharing its local history-- the food, the place and the people. We got to take home red and green salsas, sopes, taco fillings and more!
I love mexico! My husband and i experienced authentic hands on mexican cooking in just half a day. They helped and taught us to prepare tortillas, empanadas and my favorite classic taco! The smell of the spices and herbs, the traditional kitchen aura and the people behind this cooking school made this class a total experience. We were luckily picked up from our hotel and right upfront we started the first cooking session. We also had a quick beer break and then we resumed for second session. We shared smiles and laughters through margarita and over all tasting of the food we prepared. Good people, great food!
