Sarang Cookery welcomes you to our home built in 1928, to a trip down memory lane to a unique experience of history, culture, food & love from the 15th century. The Peranakan created the earliest fusion food, a blend of Chinese, Malay & Indian cooking techniques with local ingredients. With freshest ingredients, no added MSG. There is no fixed menu we will cook 4 dishes. We take into consideration food allergies and food restrictions.

After we finish the class, we will enjoy a lovely meal together.

My mom and I, both born in Malaysia, . We love to share these treasured traditional recipes with you, some of which date back 500 years. Our venue is a charming 100-year-old colonial home right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The setting adds a touch of history to the experience.

Learned a lot!

We thought we knew a bit of Malay food but this was completely new experience. Learned about Peranakan history, tradition, very gentle use of ingredients and cooking methods. Flavors were quite different and refreshing from what we know. Cannot wait to try it at home and will take this class again. Thank you!

Instructive and fun

Well organised with experienced instructor who went beyond the recipes and shared tips and tricks or as she calls it, the ‘magic’ to the dishes.

Brilliantly Intimate

I went on a Wednesday and surprisingly was the only one there!! The teacher was a brilliant woman who took me through the dishes carefully. The venue was great, initially I thought I’d be going to a purpose cooking school, however you’re on the top floor of a small local restaurant which made things feel much more authentic. Would recommend this class to anyone.

Good expereince

I was there on Friday morning. The instructor was lovely. She explained in details on the cooking procedures and helped us around. The cooking venue was clean and tidy. The dishes were yummy. Would love to visit again if I go to KL again for the other menus!

Amazing experience with a great teacher!

We joined the traditional Malaysian cooking class held on a Friday morning. Our teacher Lis Aisyah is just amazing and very thoughtful teacher, we learnt a lot from her. Her receipts gives you a easy steps to accomplish the traditional taste just like every home receipts. You don't need to be skillful to cook, just need the right teacher !
