We were so glad we picked this cooking class. We chose it based on the menu but felt blessed as Gus & his family were amazing… really lovely people. And the food we produced/ate was possibly the best food we had in Ubud. We really enjoyed all of it. The instruction was good & the food was fantastic. If we had seen some of the items on a menu in a restaurant, we probably wouldn’t have picked them. BUT we would now as it has expanded our knowledge of Balinese cuisine. Highly, highly recommended 👍🏼
It was a really great course! We had a lot of fun and also learned a lot about the culture of Bali. The dishes we cooked were super delicious and we can only recommend them. Thanks for the great evening!
Booking this cooking class, was the best decision ever! We had so much fun preparing the food and everything tasted amazing. Our instructors were all so amazingly kind and answered all of our questions patiently. They took us to a local marked, showed us how coconut oil is made and gave us some insights into their culture. It was an amazing experience, 10/10 would definitely recommend!
Definitely one of the best experiences in Bali! It was so much fun, and we learned a lot of new things. The food we prepared was absolutely delicious, and at the end, we received printed recipes to recreate the dishes at home. The people there were incredibly kind, and the atmosphere was really comfortable. We felt very welcome and are so glad we decided to join. Highly recommend it!!!! ;))
What a lovely way to spend six hours and more. So friendly and welcoming. Beautiful dishes to prepare and share. A great experience. Thank you
Es war ein super Tag, alle Leute waren super freundlich, das Essen war der Hammer:) Es hat mir riesen Spaß gemacht, kann es nur weiter empfehlen!
My family and I really enjoyed the cooking class hosted by Gus and his family. The class was held in their family home, which definitely added to the experience’s authenticity. Aside from the cooking, I also learned a lot of things about Balinese family life! Gus and his family made sure everyone was involved in the cooking process, tailoring the dishes to our preferences, including great attention to vegetarian options. We prepared several dishes and they all tasted amazing. I think the soup we made for starters was my personal favourite. I can definitely recommend this class to anyone looking for a fun, hands-on way to dive into Balinese culture and cuisine with heartwarming hospitality!
Always better with others
The cooking class in Ubud was amazing. We were a group of 5 people, which was really nice. We first got a little background story of the family home and then started cooking with all the fresh ingredients. It was a really fun experience and the chef and instructor were really helpful. At the end it is such a reward to get to eat all the delicious food you made yourself. Enak and I would totally recommend!
The cooking was really great. A wonderful tour of the market (great information about fruits, vegetables and dishes) and there was also a lot of information about the lifestyles of Balinese families. The family had prepared everything perfectly and were incredibly kind. We had a lot of fun, learned a lot and laughed a lot. And the best thing: the home-cooked food was simply fantastic. And we were given all the recipes to take home. I'm really looking forward to cooking it myself. You should definitely attend this cooking class!
Everything was very organised and our guide and chef was really nice and told us all about Balinese culture and food. We got to see local customs and made excellent food, the best one we had all trip. Couldn't recommend this class more!
The cookingclass in Ubud is a wonderful experience. We were in good hands with Gus and his family: informative, enthusiastic and skilled. Not only in cooking but also in telling us about the Balinese culture and familylife. We had great fun, a very nice lunch and the recipes to bring home. Loved it!!
I had the class in the afternoon, so we went firstly to the coffee plantation + tasting, and afterwards to his family home where we cooked. The class is perfect for everyone who wants to meet a different culture and have good food. The guide nida is very positive and good to talk to. Would highly recommend by my experience.
This cooking class was the highlight of our stay in Ubud. We not only learned a lot about the traditional Balinese cooking but also about the culture and Balinese life. The fun and engaging nature of Gus and his family made the class an unforgettable experience for us. We highly recommend it, the food tastes incredible :)
We enjoyed everything about the course and the resulting dishes were so delicious. Can recommend this course for everyone!
We had such a blast during the cooking course with Putu and his cousin. They taught us with a lot of fun how to cook Indonesian. The food was amazing!
Exciting and interesting hands-on class. We learnt a lot about Balinese cooking and culture in a relaxed and friendly setting. The food was delicious and there were lots of it. We got to try our hand at all stages of the cooking process. Very much recommend.
Our guides were fantastic. Friendly, polite, engaging, welcoming and eager to please. The traditional market tour was fun. I always love seeing fresh fruit and veg on display. There were 8 dishes in all. You cut, chop and pound the spices and chicken (for the chicken satay) in huge stone mortar and wooden pestle. Word to the wise, don't wear white as you will be cutting and smashing turmeric 🙂. The paste is a base for a couple of dishes and incredibly fragrant. You then take turns cooking and adding ingredients with others on the tour. In addition to the amazing food, we met people from other countries, shared stories, which just added to the experience. Finally, go the extra chili. You're in Bali. Enjoy the spicy food 😋
The whole experience far exceeded my expectations! It was SO FUN; I would recommend it to anyone who’s coming to Bali. Rakesh and Putin were so warm, funny and knowledgeable. They took us to the morning market where we got to learn a lot about the different local produce, then a coffee plantation where we got to try many different kinds of coffee and teas. Then the cooking class was nothing short of fantastic. We did so many dishes - 8 in total. We chose the vegetarian option. All very delicious! There were so many laughs and we left with our bellies full and happy. Overall, a great way to learn more about the Balinese culture while having a lot of fun.
We got picked up from our hotel by the amazing Guz who was friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. The walk over the market was great to learn more about the different foods and fruits of the region. The cooking class was a lot of fun, the whole family is super nice and we laughed a lot. And the food we cooked was really tasty! Highly recommend!!
I enjoyed doing this cooking class. The hosts are really nice and animate very well the class. Food is good and you'll learn some Indonesian cooking basics. The equipment is nice and we had a delicious dinner with what we prepared.
Very nice experience, we learned a lot about a Balinese house and its uses too. Great people!
We loved our cooking experience at Jambangan Bali! It was an amazing day during which we discovered many things and had so much fun! The whole family was so lovely and great teachers. We really loved the fact that we learned about Balinese culture in addition to the explanations regarding the ingredients. I would definitely recommend it!!
The whole cooking class was super fun and well-organized. They picked me up at my hotel and took us to the market and then to their house where we started cooking. We made very delicious food (also vegetarian options), and we ate it at their restaurant. It was really the most amazing food I had in Bali and they were also super friendly and funny! They really opened their house to us.
The experience started when Wayan picked us up at our hotel. What great energy this guy has. The experience was so memorable, having the opportunity to get inside the Balinese culture. We went to their local food market and then to his grandma's house, where the cooking class happens. We learned a bit about their culture, religion, and lifestyle. We cooked 7 dishes that were DELICIOUS and so meaningful. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Bali.
Very warm and friendly welcome, cooking in their home was fantastic. Starts with a walk through a local market, with no tourists. Then you prepare in groups all the dishes. The recipes and food were very tasty! We learned a lot and will definitely try them at home. Big recommendation!
This was one of our favorite moments during our travels in Indonesia. The cooking class was well-organized and easy to follow and we made a variety of delicious dishes. Wayan and his family are really kind and helpful. Wayan taught us about the food, Balinese culture, and their Balinese house, all very interesting! We would definitely recommend this cooking class.
Le cours de cuisine avec Wayan et sa famille est à faire si vous passez par Ubud. L'accueil et la prestation sont exceptionnels ! Nous nous sommes régalés dans tous les sens du terme ! Encore merci 🙏
We had the best time in this cooking class. The team was very accommodating and they ran a very good class. The program was well-planned and very easy to follow. Since coming home we have already been using things we learned. I can't wait to make some of the dished, so delicious and healthy. I would recommend this class to anyone that is interested in local Balinese and Indonesian food.
Such a great and well organised team. The family is amazing and spreads good vibes, we had so much fun. We learned a lot about their living and culture while cooking. Before, we visited a market and the families rice field. Highly recommended! Tell your friends and family to come here, when you are in Ubud 😊
We had so much fun cooking with Wayan and his family. First, we got an explanation about the ingredients at the local market and next, we visited the family's rice fields which were stunning. We got some time to walk around and take some photos. The cooking class itself was so well organized and fun. Everything was explained very well and it was very easy to follow the instructions. We prepared some tasty dishes in no time which we then ate at the restaurant. I would highly recommend doing this cooking class, it's an experience you will talk about for months! :D
Very friendly and nice family. We really enjoyed the cooking class. Nice and tasty food with a bit of fun!
Perfect home perfect lesson perfect teacher perfect company Very good experience!
If you want to learn how to cook delicious balinese food, you have to go there. Wayan welcomed us like we were family, and we had a lot of fun during the class. And you the recipes at the end. We can't wait to try it at home... :) Thanks again Wayan !
We met early in the morning and went to the market. As a group, everyone decided we would cook the vegetarian dishes, which was great. After the shopping, we were taken to a traditional Balinese house with a restaurant next to it. We learned to cook SO MANY THINGS I don't even remember the names of the dishes. We had the classic gado-gado, the yellow sauce, etc. Everything was delicious, highly recommended experience.
Since market was closed for the day, Rakesh swapped that experience by taking me to Mas village for some wood carvings shopping.. He showed me around his house, pointing out the traditional elements of the house. The ingredients were laid out and explained. The process included chopping, pounding and cooking. It was enjoyable and fun. The flavours were amazing and was amazing to learn the end to end process from raw ingredients to final dish. I would have loved to have a conversation about the ingredients, evolution of Balinese food and some history or background to the differences in flavours from around Bali or Indonesia.
Loved the whole experience. From the picking up to the cooking and dropping off. Their house area is amazing and also have a restaurant. It’s not far from Ubud and really worth the visit (also if you don’t do the cooking class and just want good food, friendly staff and a lovely surrounding)
My partner and I really enjoyed this cooking class. We took the afternoon class, Wayan and his family has welcomed us to their home like we are part of their family. He taught us not only to cook but also gave us some information on how balinese people live. This was such a great experience! We also made 6 dishes and they were all very delicious. At the end we were given a recipe for us to take home. I would highly recommend this to everyone !!
Really enjoyed the cooking class. Wayun our chef, was fun, engaging and spoke good English. It was lovely to be taught in his family home and was good to hear about how Balinese houses are set up. The food was fresh and tasty and well organised. We started with a market visit which was good and then went to the house for hands on experience of chopping and cooking. The food was super tasty and as vegetarians plenty of alternatives which was great! We were given a full menu card to try all the items at home. Certainly will give some of it a go! Highly recommend the class. Added bonus we were picked up from our hotel so hassle free.
Simply amazing! Thank you for everything
We loved the whole experience
It was a extremely interesting time, not just about food and cooking but also learned something about growing rice, culture, religion and balinese homes... The food we made was really delicious and we got recipes for everything we learned, so we can repeat it at home. In the end it was a but hurried, as if they wanted to get some rest, but we were almost ready so it was ok. All in all, it was worth it!
My favorite part was being invited into their home! As a first time visitor to Bali, it was great to get away from where all the tourists go and spend some time in a private residence. It is the slow season and I did the afternoon class, while mornings are more popular. I was a class of one, so it was a wonderful experience and I appreciate her not canceling because of only one student. I learned a lot about Balinese cooking and the food was wonderful!
We absolutely loved our cooking class! The whole family was involved and it was such a unique experience from a full market walking tour with explanations of each fruit and vegetable to cooking in their home and enjoying seeing a traditional Balinese home. Our guide even brought us to the coffee plantation nearby for an extra treat! So keep in mind they offer you beer but you need to pay after so make sure you bring cash / are prepared to pay for things there! Great experience!
Highly recommend! Would absolutely book again! I am so glad I booked this cooking experience in Bali! It was beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined from start to finish. I booked the morning cooking class and we began by going to a local market to learn about local foods so there that we would use in her cooking later. We were also lucky enough to stop by a coffee and tea plantation/rice fields where we tried some of the best coffee NT I’ve ever tasted. Then finally we were off to the home of a very lovely family showed us how to cook many traditional Indonesian dishes. We also learned how to make coconut oil. The entire family was amazing – so accommodating, welcoming, friendly, and just all-around lovely. My favorite experiences in Bali and I would 100% do it again. If you’re thinking about booking a cooking class I highly recommend you book this one.
The best experience I've made in Ubud. So friendly people and so much fun. We were just two guys in the group but is was still nice and so delicious. I love the fact that the cooking class is not in a restaurant but in a real home from a really happy and helpful family.
Really enjoyed the day. Very lovely host and we made some great food.
Got to visit an actual local market and a coffee plantation. Cooking class was well organized and everyone received a printout cookbook at the end.
It was really fantastic. Thank you.
Throughly enjoyed! Great hosts one of the best classes I've done in asia! Highly recommend!
Such a great experience. The class was extremely well organised and communication and instruction was exceptional. Most of all it was entertaining and delicious. We could not get enough of the food and walked away feeling absolutely satisfied. I highly recommend.
Wonderful class, great run through the market, and we got a recipe book!
A wonderful crew teaches you about traditional balinese cooking. You get a real experience and learn more about their culture, the dishes we prepared were delicious and the vibes even better. I highly recommend this cooking class.
Well organised and very informative
Learned the base ingredients used in Balinese Food to make curry. Every recipe was taught very thoroughly and tasted so delicious. Truly worth it. Enjoyed a lot spending a day cooking Balinese Food.
Very well organized. The food was great. A wonderful introduction to Indonesian cooking.
My husband and I took this cooking class during our honeymoon in Bali. Overall, we had a nice experience. The family who runs this class is warm, patient and welcoming. They happily shared details of their culture, traditions and recipes, and were patient in answering everyone's questions. Our only "complaint" is that the class was WAY overbooked -- there were about 15 students in this class and it made the class feel impersonal and rushed. We were split up and told "do this, now do that..." but didn't really have time to absorb the things we were learning. Also, my husband and I didn't spend much time learning to cook these Indonesian recipes together because we were split up. The class also started late because we were waiting for many students to arrive. Perhaps the late start caused the rush, or maybe it was the number of students in the class; but either way, we wish there was a slower, more hands-on and togetherness vibe for the class. It was worth the price though, because the recipes were delicious, but we wanted to share our honest review. Thanks!
I would highly recommend this class to get out of the touristy things in Ubud and really experience traditional Balinese culture and cooking. Made is so generous allowing us to come into her home and cook in her kitchen with her cousin and husband. The atmosphere was food and food was delicious!
We booked the afternoon class without the market visit and had a very private session in a small group. The host was patient to explain many details about the food and Balinese culture. The food was amazing and plenty so don't eat before the class. I would recommend it to everyone!
This was a great way to see the rice country above Ubud, Bali and learn about the culture and food of Bali. The hosts were very helpful and treated us all like old friends that had come to share a meal in their home. And allowing us to help prepare it!!
It was my first time to join a cooking class and I had a lot of fun.
My wife and I had a great time. Recommend this course for anyone interested in cooking / trying local Balinese cuisine!
very fun, very kind teacher
My most favourite experience in Bali! The food was incredible, and the experience was one of a kind. An absolute must do if you are going to Ubud. Thank you to Made for welcoming us into your beautiful home!
Putu and his lovely family showed us some tips in order to make some of the famous Balinese dishes and the results were outstanding. Best cooking class we’ve done all over Asia.
I learned about Made Ayu's class through my TripAdvisor and Google searches when I arrived in Ubud on a Tuesday. I booked the class through Cookly and was quickly confirmed for the next day's morning class. When her cousin picked me up at my hotel, to my pleasant surprise, I was going to be the only person in class. Her cousin and I went to the market where we picked a couple items (most Made and her other cousin, Wayan, already had ready to go at home) like garlic, ginger flower, and shallots and I got to see the different stalls and learn about different kinds of rice and produce and chatted a bit with the vendors. Definitely take the morning class if you are interested in seeing the market, as I believe it's the only time it's offered. Upon arrival at Made's family home, which takes place in a traditional Balinese home/compound, don't be alarmed seeing other family members occasionally poopping around, including her mother. They don't intrude on class, but it's kind of neat to be immersed in their home life. Made and Wayan do a lot of chopping prep when the group is small, but it was still very hands on and delicious and they were able to accomodate my request to do a vegetarian meal option. I also learned how to make a palm leaf offering and took pictures with them and of course of our food. Overall, delicious food, helpful recipes for later, and lots of smiles and laughs. One thing to note it's you don't spend too much time at rice farms (you pass by some in the area between the market and going to class) to take pictures and Made's cousin does a great job explaining the rice harvest process on the ride (I asked a lot of questions though). You also do not make coconut oil, but Made, does explain the process and show you the different components of it as it goes through the process and you of course cook with it. Overall, very educational, informative and fun for this non-cook :)
The host was so lovely and very funny! The class takes part in the family complex so it feels very personal and traditional. We will definitely be going back next time we come to Bali
A great experience and informative to do the market tour to learn the new and local products. The friendly and welcoming of their sharing their Balinese home for the lesson was special as was the friendliness of the hosting and lessons. Even accommodated us being shown how to prepare extra items that we were interested in. We were fully involved with the process and food choices were great. A great experience overall.
We had such fun cooking all the food and the hosts were so lovely. We learnt lots about Bali culture too. Everything we made was delicious and I would highly recommend.
It was very cosy and lovely to cook with this cute family. I’ve learnt a lot during cooking and prepared a very delicious meal.
A really authentic traditional experience. From seeing a local market, learning about how coconut oil is made to cooking our own dishes. My friend hates cooking but she really enjoyed this. Their english is good, the place is clean & the family compound is beautiful & interesting. We learnt about the family unit & how they live. The recipes were easily produced varied & very tasty. Exactly as the website described. An enjoyable experience.
It was an adventure to learn more about the Balinese food and a good way to meet new people
Great class! Picked up on time and dropped us off at monkey forest after as per our request. Cooked many different traditional meals. Only thing I didn’t like is they offered juice during the cooking class and did not say you had to pay for it until the end - we thought it was included.
My experience with Jambangan cooking class was incredible. It just so happened that I was the only to sign up for that session, so I had the class to myself. The family that runs the school is incredibly hospitable and encourages you to be as hands on as possible. Would 100% do again.
We really enjoyed the afternoon class. The family were very welcoming and made the experience fun and engaging - not to mention the delicious food. I have done a different one a few years ago and found this group size and location to be better.
We were all the family (also one child ) and we spent a very good moment. we learnt a lot of things. we cooked all together and it was also tasty!! 😋 thank you !!!
Loved the traditional side of learning about Balinese culture. And the food and process was amazing.
The school is by a more local area in Ubud and it's great to see how Balinese people live. We got to visit the market, try some local fruits that I have never tried before and then were off to the school. They explained a bit about the architecture of the place and its layout and significance to the culture. We had some welcome drinks, made an Hindu offering and class started. The coconut oil making they explained was the hot extraction process; they didn't really show how to extract the oil just narrated the process which was fine because I was there mainly for the cooking of the food! They give you recipes and a certificate at the end. All in all a good experience. They just need to improve on communication regarding the hotel pick up, as the driver was late and they weren't answering the phone, so at one point I thought I wasn't getting picked up. Good thing I waited and they finally arrived at my hotel. Apart from that everything was perfect.
Great class. Ended up being just the two of us. Great experience going to the market first and what yummy food! Thanks so much. Would highly recommend
Great class, really nice instructors, very informative, nice cooking venue.
Great moment! Made is a good teacher and her cousins were so nice. We prepared 7 plates which was easy to cook. Thanks a lot!
It was such a nice class, yummy food, super friendly people and a nice location! Overall a great experience!
We thoroughly enjoyed cooking and cooking and learning the Balinese culture. The flavours of the food were outstanding and surpassed our expectations. Very friendly and hospitable people. Absolutely recommend!!
This was such an amazing experience. We learned so much about the Balinese culture. The lady (Madi) who runs this is the cutest human EVER!! She brings you into her home and shows you where she grows her food, and teaches you about all the customs and traditions that the Balinese people follow. We were lucky enough to be there during Galungan so her home and village were so colorfully decorated. The food was AMAZING, and she made cooking a lot of fun. Food was beyond good and she gave us certificates and all the recipes to take home, as well as her email if we had any questions. So well done!
It was our first time in Indonesia and we booked at the very last minute with no problems. The cooking class was a great first time experience. We all cook at home and we were very interested in learning Indo Culture as compared to ours. We went to a market where the guide explained the different ingredients. We also went to her rice fields, which was very pretty. It was very well organized and they catered to both vegetarians and non vegetarians. Our dishes tasted as authentic as i expected. Great chefs!
Chef was charming. We produced beautiful to look at and tasty dishes.
Nice to see how the locals live, they bring you to their home.
The class was amazing! It’s so much more than just a class: you learn so much about the foods in the market as well as at the rice paddies before heading into their own family home to learn about not only the 7 recipes but the culture! If you’re looking for an authentic and hands on cooking class, this is the one for you.
The cooking class was great - we went to a market where the guide explained the different ingredients. We also went to her rice fields, which was very pretty. We then went to her house and cooked. It was very well organized and catered to both vegetarians and non vegetarians. The food tasted great. There was one family with a baby in our group and the cooks were all very kind and helpful towards them.
We really liked the cooking class. We learned so much during the class and it was fun to cook with balinese/indonesian ingredients and even better to eat all the delicious food we made. Very kind and open people working there and it was very clean.
They were so welcoming, detailed, well Spoken with good English. Very organised, clean and thorough. Would recommend to everyone and hope to visit again. We loved our day
It was a great day out learning some Indonesian cooking skills and recipes. Very friendly, hospitable and knowledgeable host. Our whole family had a great day.
Great class, delicious food and lovely warm host. Learnt lots not just about Balinese cooking but also about the culture more generally. Would definitely recommend!
Very nice family, nice clean house, everything was well prepared, we had a good time here.
Nice family, good food, lots of Information. I would do it again.
We had a great time.. we went to the market, got some ingredients. The guide was very nice. Then we went to a Balinese house and had the cooking class.. the food was really good
We loved their hospitality, and how they made us feel comfortable in their house. Got an authentic experience on Balinese home cooking and it was fantastic. Will certainly use the recipes back home.
The hosts were great and informative! We had a group of about 14. A bit late picking us up but we had to pick up multiple others in the city center We started off with a tour of the market which was sometimes hard to hear our guide through the small noisy aisles. Also seemed a bit rushed since we weren't exactly on schedule with delay in pick up. But overall was very interesting to see all the fresh fruits and vegetables used! As far as the cooking, I didn't feel I was cooking thatmuch. Each person in our group chopped up a couple ingredients l and the host prepped everything else for us and we simply just put it in the pan to cook but it was interesting to learn about all the ingredients they use in each Indonesian dish! The food in all was very tasty! We tried about 6 different items. There were soo many ingredients it would be hard to replicate at home sadly! If you are wanting to learn about an Indonesian family, ingredients used, how things are prepared and served this is a great class!
The team was very welcoming us in their home, the class was well prepared and organised. We learned a lot and had a Great day
This was an amazing experience, one of the highlights of our whole trip. The family is very welcoming and friendly. Also, we've learnt a lot and that's why we went in the first place. I highly recommend this cooking activity as it's more than just cooking!
I loved this cooking class! I really enjoyed the trip to the market, along with seeing the rice fields. Very intimate and educational. I can't wait to try the recipes at home!
We had a great morning at jambangan cooking class. It is a great place to learn more about Balinese live and of course cook. The trip to the market was amazing . The school is very clean and we cooked a lot of meals, which are typical for Bali. The highlight is the blender, no more fitness is needed. The complete jambangan team is absolutley friendly an d funny. We recommend this place from our deep heart and wish all the team all the best!!!
My wife and I visited jambangan cooking class and I must say it was one of our best days in Ubud. We were group of 7 people cooked all together. At first we visited local market to pick up some food for the class. It was an interesting experience. Young boy who guided us in the market knew every product and could give a nice explanation. He was also funny :) Cooking class was in Balinese house. House looked great, very well settled up, very clean (I was a bit worried about it initially before we came to the place) Ladies who taught us food could speak very well English, was joking with us, giving nice tips for cooking. It was something new for us to try in a different country (although I’m a chef myself) I think it’s a must do while you are in Bali as it gets you closer to Balinese culture and Jembangan cooking class is highly recommended!
This was a fun class. Took this with my wife and we loved it. We had 8 people including us in the group and it was a very good size. We had never taken a cooking class before, and I would recommend this one to anyone even considering it as it vastly exceeded my expectations.
Very good cooking class for a basic indonesian kitchen experience. It starts with a tour around the market, which is very interesting. Then you learn about a typical balinese house. The family is very nice and the food turned out really good. I can also recommend the class for vegetariens. The groups are small. We were six people, so you can try a lot. You get all the recipes in the end. Really enjoyed it.
What an amazing time we had!! A full half day experience with a short rice field tour, full open market tour.. and of course a wonderful cooking class! The hosts are amazing and it’s a full family business! You get to see the beautiful home of the host too! They are so kind, positive and happy! I want to go again and learn more!!
Complete value for money! Learnt about the Balinese house structure, the offerings, how to make coconut oil, the life of rice and how to cook with traditional utensils etc! Madi who hosts is an absolute star and is so funny and helpful, she made us feel so comfortable and right at home!! They picked us up from our homestay in a very timely manner and dropped us back off at the end, all included in the price and no tips expected. We got a certificate at the end (cute!) & a very thorough recipe book! 10/10 would recommend. Especially for travellers on a budget who want the full experience.
Quite fun. Hostess pleasant and fun. Cooking experience reasonable, good food. Because of traffic, late pick up. Because afternoon class no market visit.
My daughter,15, and I joined the class and where lucky to be the only 2 people joining the morning class on that day, as the other family has cancelled early morning due to sickness. For he and she who is interested....there is a lot more to discover than just cooking. - Local food market - rice growing ( as the drive from marked to class leads through rice fields ) - offerings ( how to make a small offering ) - a traditional balinese house ( where the class takes place ) including the functions of the single parts in a "Bali-House". It is a really spacious place with all the typical buildings forming this beautiful place. The class itself was very informative and never boring. I am well advanced in asian cooking while my daughter is a beginner but this was never a problem. The staff could easily handle that without somebody feeling overcharged or bored. Jambangan-Team is a great group of friendly people, good english speaking and nice characters. We go a complete folder with all recipes we´ve used on that day I would definitely recommend to go there when in or near Ubud.
We had a wonderful experience learning about the various vegetables and spices. The teachers all kept us busy chopping slicing and grinding. I liked that along the process we each were given a spoon to taste the entree as we completed it. The final meal had many choices and great taste!!! I would enjoy taking the class again and I highly recommend it!
Friendly, good food, good experience
Nice people
The food we made was so good we were afraid to have Balinese food for dinner.
I loved the cooking class so much! Felt welcome from the moment I stapped into the family home and became a part of my Balinese family. It was just me in the class but that was no problem and I got all the attention and they explained all the ingredients and steps I had to take. The food wa delicious and I can’t wait to make some dishes back home from my family! Thanks again for everything!!
Such a good experience start to finish. Lovely welcoming family, so cultured and the food was amazing!
We had a great time at the family home of the owners where the cooking class was held. They explained every ingredient and more at the market and treated us as normal guests at their home and were so full of humour. At the end they provide you with the recipes. We would recommend Jambangan Cooking class to everyone who visits Ubud and wants to get away from the hectic city life for a while.
Had a great time learning about Balinese food and cooking our own to samples to taste. Everything was so delicious and fresh. I can't wait to recreate these dishes at home!
My parents and I had the best time learning about the local cuisine. The food was fresh and delicious.
From the time of pickup to drop off at our Ubud villa, they were welcoming, professional yet fun and shared lots of knowledge. We had a great group of fellow cooks from around the world which was also lovely. The menu was varied and could easily be made to suit those with preferences or restrictions. They welcomed us into their family home which was a wonderful experience to see how locals have traditionally and still live. Really enjoyed the day and highly recommend it.
The class was amazing. Great way to understand the Balinese menu. We can’t wait to try the recipes at home !
I have done a couple of cooking classes before. This was by far the best. I loved going to the market; where the locals go and finding out about the ingredients there. I recognized some, but previously, I had never had the courage to enquire about them. I know I will go and happily buy these ingredients and cook with them. I really liked the sort of food we cooked; normal family stuff. On previous cooking classes I’d done, the food was quite fancy and nothing I have ever tried to recreate. I would highly recommend this cooking class..... you’ll leave stuffed of good honest food.
The team were so friendly, funny and welcoming. The market trip was really interesting and we learnt a lot and got to try some new food! The cookery school itself is at the family home and we loved seeing this and learning more about Balinese traditions. The cookery class itself was informative and the ladies leading it were so funny! We had a great time. The food we cooked was also delicious! I should also say that they were and a kind and lovely family who helped us out too wheny sister left her phone. Thank you for having us!
We were made to feel very welcome by the host family We were taken on a tour of the local food markets and drove thru some rice paddy’s while the driver explained about the rice growing process and the foods we saw at the market The cooking class was suitable for all ages with our two teenagers participating with no problem We got to eat the food we prepared and were given the recipes to take home I would recommend this class without hesitation it was a great experience we feel we understand Balinese culture better after this class
Merci encore. Noemie et Cécile
Great experience very nice family who host the event We enjoyed the market tour and the cooking class Looking forward to trying the recipes when we get home It was a good family event and both of our teenagers enjoyed it as well
Obviously these cooking classes are directed to tourists, so there's always this kind of entertainment part attached to it but having said that this was a great experience meeting all my expectations. Putu was just lovely taking us to the market and the rice fields giving a lot of insight about local life. Being able to enter their family home as the location for the class was also great! The cooking was guided but felt way more independent than I experienced it in another cooking class in Thailand. The recipes covered the Balinese favorites and in our case we're adapted to a vegetarian diet. We liked the experience and would recommend the course.
The family was truely wonderful! The place is very clean and we had excellent explanations. Bathroom was spotless and sanitary precautions taken when preparing food. (asked about allergies and if we were vegitrian and spice level we could handle ) Diver was right on time and safe.
What a wonderful experience! We were so lucky to be welcomed into Rakesh's family home for this cooking experience. The whole family played a role, from preparing offerings to demonstrating how we should cut each of the different spices, all culminating in 8 delicious dishes!! They were also very accommodating and ensured that my peanut allergy was catered for!! 10/10 would recommend to everyone's I know!
Had an amazing time ! Great service, learned a lof of new recipes and adorable people ! I recommend
Our taxi which picked us up from our hostel was on time. After that we were at a big market where we could see all the local food. Our cooking class was very great! The host is very friendly and funny. We were 8 persons, which was quite ok for this class. We cooked around 8 dishes. (1 starter, 6 main dishes, 1 dessert) everyone was involved in different steps of cooking. Water was free and after we cooked all the dishes we sit together and enjoyed our meal. Highly recommended!
We had a really Nice afternoon cooking the best from the Balinese kitchen! It was a real great experience for us! You het the recipes to take home!! Go for it!!
A wonder step into un-curated Bali, a family business that leave you feeling part of the family and lots of fun too! A must while in Ubud!!!
A bit of activity with the cooking, tour of the market, walk through of a Balinese housing complex and overview of how to make coconut oil! Very chill and relaxing while informative and tasty.
I really enjoyed the class. There was a good amount of active time cutting and blending the ingredients and making the sauces. The food was delicious and the family was so friendly.
This class is very interesting if you want to know how a Balinese house is, the class is inside one! It's very original and you get the sense of the culture and how they organize the houses. The food was really good, although was a bit fast to follow if you don't have experience cooking.
Great hosts in their own Balinese home. A trip to an authentic local market. Everyone gets to take part and cook and the end results are amazing! Thank you
One of the highlights of my time in ubud. Food tasted amazing! Everything was made from fresh/ natural ingredients. Family was so lovely and welcoming. Couldn't praise this class enough.
Very nice cooking class, where we had the opportunity to see not only the food but also the daily life of Balinese people. They were kind enough to pick me up from the hotel even if it was slightly outside Ubud, and the drive for he house is gorgeous, through the rice plantation. The hosts were kind and open. Definitely go for the morning class, which includes a visit to the local market.
Great experience with very good and tasty food!!! Simona and Greg
The class takes place at a family home. The hosts are very welcoming. Everything is well organised. You make 8 dishes within the time. Lots of opportunity to try many Balinese dishes. Lots of fun! Would reccomend to anyone staying in Bali. Pick up and drop off service is great also.
Would recommend it to everyone who wants to learn something about the balinese culture and the food! Very sweet family;)
From minute one till the last everything was absolutely great. We got picked up from the hotel and afterwards full and stuffed with the best food droped off. The balinese framily we cooked with was adorable, very welcoming, friendly and they know how go prepare the best dishes. Also we learned a lot about rice and how the balinese people live. If I could I would repeat class right away and this is why I highly recommend it to you. This was a lot of text but here comes a little more for "good luck" :p Thanks again for the great day and all the tips how to make these delicious meals back home.
It was a noce place and friendly people. Food was great and my personal highlight was the cute white bunny which hoppled freely around.
The cooking class was perfect. The family seemed genuinely delighted. We participated in every step, we got to prepare, cooked and enjoyed what we've cooked. My kids were encouraged to help as well. They were so excited and enjoy it a lot. Then, we finally got to experience completely authentic Balinese flavors.
Great experience cooking in a traditional Balinese home. Good instruction, warm welcome and recipe provided. The food they taught us was super tasty. It was also fantastic since we had a chance during the meal to sit and talk about their Balinese culture. This is absolutely a must for any travellers.
Brilliant
