Our chef, Kogi, made whole experience very nice and smooth. Cooking was fun and the taste was amazing.
We started with the market tour at Tiong Bahru Market. Ryan provided us with lots of interesting background information: the history of the area, the market, the products on offer and the variety of hawker stalls. Afterwards we took a taxi to the cooking school. It is perfectly furnished so that we could start cooking right away. Ryan is an absolutely competent cooking professional, so we were able to benefit a lot. Enjoying the three-course meal was the perfect end to this great event.
The class was very enjoyable. My husband and I were taught by Lena. She was very nice and gave us great recommendations for the rest of our stay here in Singapore! We had a lot of fun learning how to make the food. I would highly recommend taking this class.
Lena was so accommodating and patience to teach me in detailed. She was excellent and well prepared for my questions during the class. Highly recommended .
Lena and Eddie were knowledgable, friendly, and a ton of fun. They were well prepared, the recipe was easy to follow, and the view from the loft was fantastic. We peppered them with all kinds of questions regarding things to do/eat in Singapore and their suggestions were fantastic. Would definitely do again!
I cannot rate this place high enough. I had a brilliant time learning new things about food. Lena is friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. The location is very convenient and The Baking Loft is beautifully decorated and organized. You definitely feel like you’re in a real kitchen. Unlike a lot of cooking schools in Singapore, this one is smaller, which is important because you get a lot more attention from the chef, can ask lots of questions and get a much better sense of what it means to cook locally. I’m definitely coming back next time I’m in Singapore!
This was my first time joining a cooking class in Singapore. It's an awesome cooking class at a reasonable price. My teacher Lena was so nice and friendly, she picked me up from the lobby to her neat & beautiful workshop on time. She was so professional as well to teach me the skills to cook those yummy Singaporean dishes! I had a really good time with Lena, and I would definitely recommend this cooking class to everyone who is interested in cooking and planning to visit Singapore.
I had a lovely time learning classic Singapore dishes. Very helpful with the questions I have and very generous in sharing cooking techniques. Thank you for being accommodating and helpful.
The lesson is enjoyable and engaging. I find the instructor knowledgeable and helpful. I will recommend others to the class. I was grateful the ingredients were some I could purchase in Australia. It was interesting to find sugar would lower the “bite” of the chilli heat!
In Singapore, cooking classes often feature iconic dishes such as chili crab, laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, char kway teow, and kaya toast. You’ll learn the secrets behind the spicy crab sauce, the aromatic coconut broth, and the perfect balance of flavors that make these staples beloved by locals and visitors alike.
Yes, many cooking schools in Singapore offer vegan, halal, and gluten‑free variations. Instructors can swap out ingredients, use plant‑based proteins, or provide gluten‑free noodles so everyone can enjoy the experience without compromising on taste.
Typical classes run for 2 to 3 hours and accommodate 4 to 8 participants. This size keeps the class intimate, allowing the chef to give hands‑on guidance while still letting you mingle with fellow food lovers.
English is the most common language, but many chefs also speak Mandarin, Malay, or Tamil. Some schools offer bilingual instruction or provide subtitles so non‑English speakers can follow along comfortably.
Most cooking schools supply all the fresh ingredients, utensils, and sauces. You’ll only need to bring a notebook, a sense of curiosity, and perhaps a reusable water bottle.
Solo travelers can use the class as a social hub, striking up conversations with classmates. Couples often enjoy the shared experience of chopping and plating together, while families with kids can choose child‑friendly classes that keep them engaged with simple tasks and a fun tasting session at the end.
Absolutely. Many schools incorporate a guided walk through markets like Tiong Bahru Market or Maxwell Food Centre, where you’ll pick fresh ingredients before heading back to the kitchen to recreate the street‑food classics under a chef’s guidance.
The moment you taste the freshly cooked chili crab or the first bite of a steaming bowl of laksa is unforgettable. Many participants also enjoy learning how to make the iconic chili sauce from scratch, discovering the balance of sweet, sour, and spicy that defines Singaporean cuisine.
