We are not giving you only the cooking class, but you will explore Luang Prabang traditional way of life and Lao food culture in our heritage house. Our cooking class is kind of unique and classic class situated in the garden of heritage house, in the heart of Luang Prabang peninsular. We follow the authentic traditional recipes of Phia Sing, the former Royal chef of Luang Prabang. And we use fresh and organic ingredients as much as possible and change by season.
Starting with welcoming you with our homemade welcome drink. Following by visiting our museum of 120 year-old houses to discover traditional ceremonies and our traditional way of life. Then, take you a tour in our Heritage House and garden pick up some fresh herbs for cooking.
Banana leaves is staple in Lao cooking method too, you will learn the art of using banana leaves in Lao cooking. Then starting with learning fundamental of Lao cuisines. First you will learn how to cook sticky rice. The first dish to prepare will be a “jaew” or dipping sauce with seasonal ingredients, it will accompany the sticky rice. There are many varieties of dips in Laos and this is a staple for flavour in any Lao home.
Following this, you will try your best at more complex preparations, depending on seasonal ingredients it may be a dish steamed in banana leaf, or stuffed in lemongrass, along with other well-known dishes such as lab, au lam, soup or Luang Prabang salad.
The learning will finish with a Lao dessert and then you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labors. In total you will learn to cook 4 dishes + 1 dessert
