We learnt so much about how to get the best out of the products without using too much spices. And how to get a feeling to temperature. Patricio is an excellent chef and teacher, we had much fun and the small class (7 persons) was perfect! Thank you so much!
Our class with Patricio was the most fun cooking class I've done. We started with a wonderful shopping expedition in the market. He bought us goodies to taste on the way (meats, cheese), and explained the matriarchal way the markets are run. At the fish market I said, "Ooh, I love navajas (razor clams)!". He said, "Well, let's buy some." The cooking experience was fantastic! We learned not just how to cook, but why certain foods are cooked certain ways. Everyone (there were 10 of us) got to help. And the food was absolutely amazing. The wine and conversation flowed, and Patricio was an entertaining and patient teacher. A perfect way to spend a few hours in San Sebastian.
Wonderful staff, full of knowledge and very helpful. Everyone had different roles to play in the cooking. Excellent food, nice selection of wines. Relaxed meal together. A great experience!
Really good fun- was petty hands-on whilst still being relaxed and the staff were all great. Ingredients were superb and very professional!!
In San Sebastián, cooking classes usually cover pintxos (small tapas), classic Basque dishes like bacalao al pil‑pil, txistorra, and tortilla de patatas, as well as regional desserts such as churros con chocolate and various local cheeses.
Yes, many studios offer vegan, gluten‑free and halal options. They’ll adapt ingredients while keeping the authentic Basque flavors.
You’ll find market‑tour classes where you pick fresh produce, street‑food sessions that teach how to make pintxos at home, and family‑friendly courses that let kids learn simple recipes.
Classes typically run for 2–3 hours, with groups of 6–10 people. Some intensive workshops last up to 4 hours if you want a deeper dive.
Most courses are conducted in Spanish or Basque, but many chefs also speak English, and a few offer French, German, or Italian language sessions.
In San Sebastián it’s common to remove shoes in the kitchen, keep the spice level moderate, and greet the chef with a friendly “¡Hola!” or “¡Buenas!” before starting.
During the summer, you might taste pintxos featuring seasonal fruits, and around August you can join the San Sebastián Gastronomic Festival where chefs showcase new seasonal dishes.
Solo travelers can easily join small groups, couples can enjoy a private or semi‑private session, and families with kids benefit from a hands‑on, interactive approach that keeps children engaged.
