What to Expect

Take your authentic Roman-style pasta cooking class in the Jewish district of Rome as seen in the Stanley Tucci’s show. Take a break from visiting the city by meeting local people and learning how to make a typical Roman dinner menu from scratch.
Meet your host in Piazza Mattei, one of the most fascinating squares of Rome, just in the heart of the Jewish Ghetto. The area offers breathtaking views of the stratification of Rome during the Centuries as well as a number of restaurants and shops.

Here you can find, indeed, restaurants and trattorias selling Jewish Roman food. Enjoy the easy-going happy lifestyle, which the Ghetto is famous for. Head to the restaurant and meet the Chef ready to reveal secrets and recipes to you. This is a hands-on class, but if you’d just like to be a spectator you can relax, watching the chef working, with a glass of wine.

You’ll learn how to make homemade pasta from scratch, clean and prepare seasonal vegetables to fry, and taste desserts that all Roman grandmas used to cook for local kids. Start your cooking class learning how to make fresh pasta from scratch. Using our grandmas’ style you will be able to make it again when back home.

Seasonal food is a must in Rome, in the winter class, you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to peel artichokes to be cooked in the Jewish Style, one of the highlights of Roman cuisine. In the Summer’s class, you’ll learn how to prepare zucchini flowers or any other amazing fresh vegetable to make the original “fritto romano”. In the end taste the amazing torta di ricotta e visciola, the famous ricotta cheesecake made with simple and delicious ingredients.

First course:

• Fresh homemade pasta with two traditional sauces

Second course: 

• A seasonal main course (artichokes, zucchini flowers or other fresh vegetables) prepared by the chef 

Dessert: 

• A special dessert (crostata ricotta e visciole) to taste

Schedule

• 5:00 pm: meeting point at Taverna del Ghetto
• 5:10 pm: make a short tour through the Jewish Quarter
• 5:15 pm: arrive at the restaurant and get ready to cook
• 5:20 pm: cooking session
• 7:00 pm: tasting the dinner made of the cooked dishes
• 8:00 pm: end of the experience
