What was once the most pivotal cities involved in the Vietnam war has become a city buzzing with energy. With it’s rich history and modernity combined, the food of Ho Chi Minh incorporates influences from both the past and the present. All of our cooking classes in this dynamic historic city offer you to make local authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Some classes involve touring a local market, where you’ll be able to source your ingredients for your dishes. Or choose to go organic! Another cooking class offers you to take your class in an agricultural village where you will be able to source fresh vegetables from a local farm and experience what it is like to be a Vietnamese farmer for a day.
I immensely enjoyed my Vietnamese cooking class! Chef Mai and the staff were friendly and made us feel at home. We got hands-on experience making delicious dishes like sizzling pancakes and pho ga. It wasn't just about cooking; we learned the stories behind the ingredients and their cultural significance. Plus, we got a recipe booklet to recreate these tasty dishes at home. I highly recommend it for foodies and anyone looking for a fun culinary adventure! Kudos to the awesome team for a fantastic day.
Had such a wonderful time at this farm cooking class. It is one of the highlights of my trip to Viet Nam. Alice was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, and I loved learning about the growing methods for mushrooms and crops on the farm. The cooking section was super organised, with perfect mise en place, and I was provided with vegetarian friendly options. I was travelling on my own, and had a great time with the group! Highly recommend for everyone, including solo travellers.
"Great evening spent at Lua’s around three exciting traditional recipes"
Lua is a great and fun cooking teacher. his kitchen is impeccably equipped and filled with good products. The recipes were excellent and exciting to cook in a small group. Thanks again for the great time and emailing the recipes, can't wait to make another pho at home!
My family had a great time through the cooking class.
It was good to know how to cook exotic Vietnamese food for the first time.
The teacher was kind and considerate.
It was a more enjoyable time because the students who took the class together were pleasant.
I bought some of the good ingredients that I learned from her that I couldn't buy in Korea at the mart.
When I go back home after the trip, I'm going to make the dish that I learned from her.
Billy and Alex did a great vegan food tour with us. We felt very safe in the (for us) crazy traffic in Saigon. We loved to get to know locals, who showed us around and gave us an interesting start in Vietnamese vegan food. The food was really nice and they had little surprises during the tour. They were very welcoming and asked for feedback. Very nice way to get to know the city, food and very friendly people. Highly recommend it.
The tour was really great, we had the occasion to try different dishes from Vietnam and our guides, Lily and Jack were also great. We had a really good time, the informations they gave us about the food, the culture and the people were also very interessant. We recommend this tour, and of course our guides to 100% !
I booked the vegan cooking class with Lua for my father and me. We wanted to learn how to cook popular Vietnamese dishes for when we are back in Germany. We had a lot of fun with Lua and learned three easy and delicious dishes. Spring rolls which we have already loved and eaten a lot in Vietnamese restaurants in GER. Banh Xeo which we discovered some days ago in the Mekong Delta and we were curious about to learn what it contains in detail. And a banana coconut dessert, a perfect fit since I love bananas. Lua created a great environment and learning more about herself and the Vietnamese cuisine was a blast. Thanks for that great afternoon Lua. :)
This alternative take on the Vietnamese cooking course was well worth the hour’s trip by air conditioned minibus to an organic farm outside HCMC. It was fascinating to see and hear about all the fruits and vegetables they grow here - especially the oyster mushrooms. After gathering our produce we made a selection of 4 great dishes, which were delicious. Really enjoyed getting out of the city to the peace of the countryside. Highly recommend this trip. (left hotel at 7.15 am and back at 2.30 pm - on a Sunday)
The chef is patient in teaching us every cooking steps. We can learn his enthusiastic cooking career from his words. And also the staff are so kind to help us clean the desk and give us some advices. If we have another opportunity to take a trip in Ho Chi Minh, we won’t hesitate to book this course again!
We really enjoyed Lua's class -- her cooking skills, friendliness and adaptability.
We asked to make stuffed turmeric pancakes, banh xeo, which isn't on Lua's extensive list of items to cook. Lua accommodated us, teaching us how to make a savory pork-prawn-mushroom filling and light, crispy pancakes, which we ate folded into lettuce leaves and herbs.
While making fresh summer rolls and a banana pudding, we discussed the differences between northern and southern Vietnamese food and cultures, shared details about Lau's and our backgrounds, learned how she decided to teach cooking, and where she and we have traveled in Vietnam and internationally. A fun morning, delicious (and healthy) lunch, and super company. What could be better?
Oh what a fantastic time here at Grain. The ingredients were very fresh and each ingredient explained very well, all in a relaxed, fun and clean studio.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do this whilst in Saigon.
My daughter moved to Vietnam 6 years ago and this is my first trip here. She loves the food so I wanted to learn how to cook authentic Vietnamese food. I also love to cook.
I'm so glad I signed up for this cooking class!
The instructor/host was an absolute Joy! She was knowledgable and passionate about Vietnamese cooking. Everything was meticulously planned, prepared and fresh. The dishes were fabulous and we got to create them from scratch with lots of background information about ingredients, etc. And eat them! Best part! :-)
I think you will enjoy this class whether you're an experienced cook or a beginner. I can't say enough about it.
My friend and I really enjoyed the class with Chef Tommy!
The dishes were easy enough to prepare, and absolutely delicious. Chef Tommy's knowledge of all things food, from local flavors to international cuisine was a wonderful addition to a great afternoon!
I did the full nine courses and each of them was very nice, it also helped to see the base of Vietnamese cooking as to which ingredients stayed the same and which ones swapped out.
You are loaded with information, particularly in the garden, that leads me to think maybe I should have been writing things down if I hadn't been enjoying it so much.
The staff is all really nice and the owner is a natural wheeler dealer with a gift for the gab, amusing me and his other guests throughout the day.
Your money could go further other places in Vietnam, however it is a good day's cooking and I would recommend.
My boyfriend and I loved this cooking class, our teacher was very enthusiastic and taught us all about every ingredient, and made sure every member of the class was keeping up and knowing what to do. We learnt about Vietnamese herbs and fish sauce and prawns, etc. We had iced tea to go with the food. The food was so yummy!! We also got a cute recipe booklet to take home. Loads of fun!! Oh - and the market tour at the beginning was a lovely way to begin the day!
Started off with a cute little market tour. Friendly and informative chef guided us through the 3 different meals which left me very full and content by the end of the session. The recipe cards we got at the end came in handy when I attempted to recreate the dishes back home! Had a great time :)
This class was fantastic- enthusiastic teacher, spotless working area and delicious food. We learnt so much about the ingredients, and the recipes will be reproducible in our own kitchen. Great value and highly recommended
Mi was an both warm and friendly and a source of information as she took our small class of 4 people through the preparation of three very different Vietnamese dishes. We all learnt a great deal about ingredients we already thought we already knew (particularly Morning Glory) and it was a bonus to be able to purchase some of the specialist utensils to keep our Vietnamese cooking going when we arrive home to Australia. We also appreciated being provided with the recipes of all the dishes we were taught. They were beautifully presented in a lovey colourful folder. All up, a wonderful 3 hours and a real highlight of our Saigon holiday.
We had a tour of the local marker to learn about the ingredients we were going to use. The chef was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic and it completely added to the experience. The food we learnt to make was simple and delicious
Lua was very friendly and inviting. She hosted our small group in her apartment where we were warmly welcomed. Lua has been cooking since she was a young child. The years of experience in cooking traditional Vietnamese food was evident in the deliciousness of the flavours in the dishes. Together we cooked a sensational and flavoursome 3 course meal. Lua was very accommodating to a vegan diet and provided us with the recipes for us to replicate at home. If you’re in Ho Chi Minh, it’s a must do!! Thanks Lua!
We where introduced to the local herbs, vegetables and fruits. Then went into the cooking class.
Chef Chey Tan was awesome in explaining the ingredients and instructions. The food was delicious.
We didn’t realise it was so easy to cook such great food.
Looking forward to taking the experience and cooking at home.
Love seeing the City on the bike.gives you a different perspective and worth the price and the Vietnamese coffee..I was addicted to it so so good. The food was delicious . Must say good selection of dining spots discovered. Will recommend my friends and family as well.
The cooking class was not only fun, but also really instructive. We learned several techniques in just a few hours (e.g. using caramel to add flavor to fish) and had a very tasty lunch at the end. Lua was very friendly and knowledgeable and it was great to get some insights into Vietnamese culture from her. Would definitely recommend the experience while in Saigon.
The dishes we cooked were all delicious yet simple. The recipes were provided at the end, and I feel confident in what produce to buy and techniques to use in order to recreate them. It was extremely clean, and all the tools were safe and easy to use. I would recommend doing to market stop to get the ingredients first (it is a proper local market and no other tourists there). Cant fault the class, so that's why I have given 5 stars.
My boyfriend and I had a great cooking class with amazing food a few days ago at Lua's place. Lua is super nice, explained a lot around Vietnamese food and culture and made us feel at home at her lovely apartment. We even got some secret tips and the recipes per mail afterwards so we can cook the meals at home.
All in all highly recommendable! Thanks Lua!
We enjoyed not only learning how to make three authentic and exquisite Vietnamese dishes, but also gaining in insight into Vietnamese living and culture. Lua was welcoming, interesting and good-humoured, and the class structured in a way that we were all (group of 4) kept busy throughout. A must-do if you are in HCM City.
Lua did a great job preparing everything and everybody could be of help afterwards to make the three course dinner perfect. We had all natural ingredients and she made sure that people with allergies got to eat everything as well. We had a nice group of seven people and talked a lot while eating and cooking. Great start to Vietnamese food.
It was such a fun experience! We learned how to make 3 dishes that were all tasteful and beautiful. Everything was ready for us clean and neat, which made it easier to cook. The cooking demonstration is easy to follow as well.
We had a wonderful experience with this cooking class. It was well organised and easy to follow. All the ingredients were prepared fresh for us to use and the instructor spoke perfect English and was very helpful. Thank you!
"Delicious food, easygoing fun afternoon experience"
My mom and I joined the class not long after landing in Saigon for the first time. It was a great way to spend the afternoon, the class format and preparation was very smooth and easygoing. We're definitely going to make some of this food at home in the future!
Ms Lua is a great host, has wonderful knowledge and share it clearly. I loved the small group- we all got to do things, to observe closely so we now know what ‘cooked’ looks like. The afternoon was great and I learnt so much. Thank you, Ms Lua!!!
Four of us attended the class and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Lua was an amazing host, friendly and interesting. Cooked three courses and she took the time to explain each ingredient and meal. Would highly recommend to friends and others.
My daughter and had a wonderful afternoon on the Vegan Food Tour with female riders. We were a little nervous at first but Anne and Helen quickly made us feel relaxed and safe as we traveled to wonderful places and ate delicious food and learned lots about Ho Chi Minh City.
Would absolutely recommend!
Since we‘ve enjoyed the great Food at cyclo resto twice, we wanted to learn more how to do it. First we visited the local market and found out how to get the best fresh ingredients. At cyclo resto the complete Team around the Chef supported the Cooking class. We learned how to prepare, spice up, cook and decorate a whole menue. The Result was amazing and we can warmly recommend everything.
I thoroughly enjoyed the class I took with M.O.M.! All the chefs and staff were kind and patient, and did a great job describing all the ingredients and explaining the dishes. The food we cooked was also delicious, and we got certificates and recipes at the end which was great.
Would definitely recommend taking this class!!!
Cooking with Lua was a great experience. She explained every step and really cooked with us together instead of just showing us what we have to do. The food was really delicious, I would even say it was one of the best tasting meals we had during our two weeks travel trough Vietnam. Therefore if you have a little spare time left during your vacation I would really recommend you to spend a few lovely hours with Lua!(:
