It can be argued that many visit Italy for the food. With Rome serving as the Italian capital, it is no wonder why so many tourists visit Rome. Rome also happens to be a capital of the art world, and in our cooking classes you will see why. In our classes you will learn how to sculpt pasta in the same city where great sculptors were born and trained. Or learn how to make a pizza the Italian way and never have to order in pizza again. However, not all of our classes are confined in the kitchen! In some of our classes we invite you to explore the Roman countryside and visit a local winery, or visit a local Italian market to pick out your ingredients to cook with.
I attended this class on Saturday (16 September 2023). What can I say? The location is gorgeous and very clean! Giuseppe, our chef, is not only super friendly but he also taught us how to prepare REAL pasta according to authentic tradition. Tiramisù was explained simply and clearly, truly within everyone's reach!
I highly recommend this experience, you'll be plunged into a mix of multiculturalism and tradition!
What an absolutely beautiful experience. I couldn’t speak more highly of Claudia and Bruno who made us feel completely at home in their beautiful house in the Italian country. The cooking class was easy to follow and collaborative, finding herbs in the garden to add to the recipes. Bruno played piano and we spent the whole time laughing. The lunch at the end was perfect and all good was delicious, including the wine from their vineyard. Instructions to get to zagarolo were simple even though the train line was under construction and Bruno picked me up and gave me a tour of the town on the way. Highly highly recommend!
You will definitely learn how to make pizza (the right-crunchy-delicious-italian-way), but the experience is beyond the cooking. From Paola (who hosted us throughout), to the chef, to the ladies helping in the kitchen... it was a great experience overall! We went with one 14 year old, two 15 year olds, and one 18 year old and everyone had a good time.
This is the best putting I have done on vacation. Claudia and Bruno are amazing. The class was not rushed, Bruno played the piano, Claudia taught multiple recipes. It takes special people to invite you into their home and Claudia and Bruno are special beyond compare. We were with another family and a couple on their honeymoon and having other there made it that much better. We bonded over the course or many hours together. I wish I lived here so I could take more classes with Claudia. The end result was a day full of learning, laughter, and amazing food and people.
Claudia is amazing! More than a cooking class, our time with Claudia and her husband Bruno was an experience not to be missed. Of course, we loved our hands-on lesson in pasta-making (along with sorbetto, vegetables, sides, a meat dish… ), but even more so we felt like welcomed guests visiting our talented Italian friends.
Our morning began with a refreshing cup of mint tea and treats prepared by Claudia with ingredients from her garden. We were then privileged to stroll through the grounds as Claudia shared with us the tastes and fragrances of the many herbs she cultivates. The beautiful property also boasts an impressive vineyard and olive grove, from which Claudia and Bruno create delicious wines and olive oil (which we later enjoyed).
As we cooked and learned, Bruno (a talented singer and musician) serenaded us. Our “lesson” was interesting, authentic, and joyous. As a reward for all of our fun, we shared a feast with dish after dish, house wine, and fresh fruit sorbetto until we couldn’t eat another bite.
We were so grateful that we lucked into this very special cooking experience. Do not be put off by the relatively few published reviews. Such an authentic and personal experience far exceeds the large commercial enterprises through Viator or Travelocity. Sign up for us class! You’ll be reminiscing about it fondly long after you return home from your Italian holiday!
Because our class was on Saturday, we met Alessandro in the market at Campo di Fiore. He was a lively, engaging person who cheerfully introduced us to the various characters of the market and let us set some of the menu. I will say that visiting the salumeria and the macelleria made my mouth water.
After assembling and collecting our ingredients, it's off to the school. A light, open, wide facility for my family of seven foodies. We start with a lightweight appetizer and then get to cooking. Chicken cacciatore, ravioli filled with ricotta and mortadella, tiramisu with zabaglione.
Alessandro and his team led us through the steps of making great pasta, zabaglione, chicken ... all of it. Then to serve it up with Prosecco, ah. Such a delight.
A great course! Team, we cannot thank you enough for the wonderful time we had cooking with you and we hope yo do it again soon.
We had an amazing class with Claudia and Bruno! They have a beautiful and unique house in the countryside. The transportation is very easy with train from Rome.
Perfect hospitality, good food, wine, live music and nice location.
The trip to the Minardi farm was phenomenal! Our family loved the pasta making class, the tour of the vineyards, the wine tasting, the absolutely scrumptious lunch and the Italian songs at the end! We were greeted warmly and treated like special guests to their family home. This was an absolute highlight of our trip to Italy!
Thank you Umberto, Alfredo, Alessandra and Anna - we will never forget this experience.
(And we are excited to enjoy your olive oil and red wine too!)
Gio met us in front of the shop right as we arrived and invited us into the kitchen. There were six people total, our family plus another gelato enthusiast from Australia.
And there was just enough room for us to stand across the counter from him while he taught the class and invited us to participate.
He talked us through the steps of making gelato and let the kids and even adults take turns adding ingredients and whisking.
He is charming, funny and passionate about 100% natural gelato with no fillers. Just milk, cream, sugar, chocolate.
Then we got to add our own melted chocolate to our bowls of straciatella gelato and finally at the end of class which runs about an hour, we got to taste all the other flavors in this adorable shop.
My son said the basil pineapple flavor was “life changing.”
Gio even delayed opening by ten minutes to give us a gelato tasting.
An awesome experience for our whole family. Especially for kids. And verde pistacchio is our new favorite gelato shop in Rome.
"Wonderful Experience with Charming Hosts and a Beautiful Home"
Claudia's cooking class was wonderful and one of the highlights of my trip to Rome with my nieces. Her dishes are delicious and she is engaging with her guests, getting us involved in making everything. She adapted the menu to our needs (vegan and vegetarian) and the meal was fresh and very tasty. While the dishes won't taste as good in the States since we don't have the fresh ingredients that Claudia has available in her garden, we will certainly recreate the recipes once home. Like a lot of Italian cooking, the recipes are simple and easy to make.
Claudia and her husband, Bruno, are charming and welcoming hosts. They make you feel at home. Bruno's musical skills were an added delight and he even played some of my favorite Italian songs from the 1990s and some Billly Joel too.
Their home in Zagarolo is close to Rome but it is like you are far in the countryside for the peace, quiet and green you are surrounded by. Their home is also full of their personalities and interests and talents, which makes it all more interesting to be there and be part of the wonderful experience that they offer.
I enjoyed the piizza-making class very much. Our instructor Claudia was excellent. He showed how to make the dough with a few very simple ingredients We created thin crust. Pizzas were delicious. After the class we got to eat a pizza with a glass of wine, bruschetta, dessert, and coffee. What a treat. Can’t wait to get home and to try my new pizza recipe
My sister had recommended this experience when she was in Rome a few years ago, and it's now one of our favourites too. The pasta making was so fun, the food was so good, the wine was great, but the cherry on top was the friendliness and camaraderie of the staff on the farm. Paola was our host and she was hilarious and made the experience that much better. I would definitely return here if I'm in Rome again!
We had such fun on the cookery class. Claudia’s instructions for the train were clear and the journey through beautiful countryside was the perfect beginning to a wonderful day. The charming Bruno collected us from the station and acted as tour guide as we drove to the house. Their home is delightful with beautiful artwork and an amazing garden.
To start our meal we picked herbs and plants that would become the most delicious dishes. Next we prepared pasta, sauces, salad and seasonal vegetables, just incredible.
As we cooked, Bruno played songs and we all sang along - such fun.
Sitting in the garden with our amazing hosts eating our home cooked Italian food, drinking home produced wine and tasting the olive oil was the most wonderful experience. If we could have gone back the following day and learned some more recipes I am sure we would have.
Thank you for our perfect day.
Grandchildren with grandparents had a great time learning to prepare some Italian favorites. Our Instructor was very informative and congenital. She entertained us with stories and her musical talents! We were surprised how wonderful our recipes tasted! Pistachio gelato set a high level of perfection for all other gelato we enjoyed on our Italian travels! Delicioso!
We had a really wonderful experience with Paola, Alfredo and Pietro. First we made three different types of pasta and learned a lot about how real good pasta should be and feel like. Afterwards we had a wine tasting on the beautiful terrace of the farmehouse and a tour through the beautiful vineyard inklusive a stunning view. At the end we had a wonderful dinner with some antipasti and our selfmade pasta with home made sauce. After the dinner Alfredo got out his guitar and played some songs for us.
All in one we really enjoyed this wonderful day with warm-hearted people and delicious food & wine! We will definitely come here again for a pizza class or any other course and warmly recommend it to everyone.
This was our 2nd cooking class with wheninromecooking. We enjoyed the 1st one so much we booked a second one. The class is fun, you get to roll your sleeves up and get your hand into the dough and get messy making gelato, although they do give you aprons, so not too messy. Great interactive experience for families (we went with 2 young adult kids). Our chef instructor Marco was super knowledgeable about all things Rome cooking, answering all the questions that we peppered him with, and had a great sense of humor too. At the end, we got to eat our creations. What more could you ask for?
The flexibility with choosing favorite pasta shapes and sauces made the class feel very tailored. My partner and I had such an amazing time taking this class and would recommend to anyone thinking about it! Each course was phenomenal
My husband and I throughly enjoyed the cooking class. There was ample staff to provide quality teaching and a hands on experience to a small group of students. While both my husband and I cook we still learned a lot! The facility was lovely and the teachers very accommodating and knowledgeable.
From start to finish it was a fantastic experience. All the guys and Paola were brilliant and we had an amazing day with pasta making and wine tasting. Would recommend to anybody who wants a relaxing day outside of Rome - very accessible with the train from Termini and you are picked up when the train arrives and dropped off 15 minutes before the train home. Very smooth and very relaxing from the madness of Rome.
Claudia and Bruno were wonderful hosts. They gave detailed instructions on pick up and drop off location. They offered a welcome refreshment. The cooking instructions were very thorough with individual tips on how to improve. While Claudia taught us cooking, Bruno entertained us with his piano playing from time to time. They also served us wine and olive oil that they made themselves. It was an overall delightful and fulfilling experience. I highly recommend this class! Not only was it fun, delicious and educational it offered a chance to escape the business of Rome.
This class was the highlight of our trip to rome.
They went above and beyond our expectations, we learned so much and had so much fun doing it.
They accommodated our dietary needs and gave everyone in the Class time with each person to help teach us all the best way to make pasta.
Claudia and Bruno were wonderful hosts in their lovely home. We cooked some great food - at least we thought so - and learned some new skills including making fresh pasta, ravioli and aubergine parmigiana. All then eaten overlooking Bruno's vineyard drinking his lovely wine. We were looking for something different from a restaurant or hotel based class and it certainly delivered. A memorable afternoon and highly recommended. Martin and family.
This was such an amazing experience on so many levels. I learned how to make pasta and got the chef's recipe for out of this world sauce that has only three ingredients! The chef was great with kids. My daughter lacks confidence and the chef kept showing her that she could make pasta. She was so proud in the end. I also love that we were taught by someone that knows cooking inside and out. He explained the chemistry to us. I've been making pasta wrong all these years and now know the right times and temperatures. Really it was worth it for the tips, for the confidence boost to my daughter, and for the authentic Roman experience.
We had an absolute blast. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and down to earth; it was quite the pleasure spending the day with her. She also translated for the chef during our class. We were all laughing and enjoying each other’s company while making pasta. The other restaurant staff were exceptionally kind as well! The food was delicious. 10/10 would highly recommend!
"A Day That Will Stand Out in a Life Time of Days"
For one day we put aside everything else in world. We learned how to make two kinds of pasta. Had a nice tour of the Minardi Frascati Vineyard. Gained an appreciation for the region. Meet nice people (I suspect that might be luck). Ate a nice family meal and then were lucky enough to hear Alfredo and his neighbor sing and play guitar. The food, wine, views, people and experience could not have been better.
Highly recommend! Especially for families with children (all ages) - you’ll not regret it! Pls go for it if you’re looking for an authentic experience with local Italian family not only to learn of their culture, cuisines and tradition. Worth every dime and $ so well spent!
My family of 4 enjoyed a wonderful cooking class in a Roman restaurant with a great chef. Our guide, Sharon, and our Italian chef were fantastic - they educated and entertained us. We made 2 kinds of past plus tiramisu and then sat down to enjoy our amazing lunch! Overall, an experience that truly exceeded our expectations and has been a highlight of our trip.
Nice break from the crowds and heat of Rome. Loved seeing the vineyard, farmhouse and wine cave. We learned a lot about the art of making pizza dough - made several variations of pizza. Really enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend for anyone looking to do something just a short train ride out of the city.
"Fun and most relaxing part of our Roman holiday!"
Absolutely appreciated how simple Chef David made learning to cook classic Roman dishes!
Also really enjoyed the conversations and getting to know more of the Italian lifestyle in most family kitchens. Can’t wait to try out the recipes with our family back home in Singapore… and now to hunt for guancale back home!
The kitchen was so clean as well 👍 beautiful space.
We decided to book the class on a whim and were both absolute beginners. I'm vegan and my partner isn't. Emanuele and his team made us feel welcome and were such great teachers. They gave everyone the exact right amount of time and attention to make sure they got it right. They accommodated me perfectly so I felt included making my no egg pasta. The group is ten people and you make one dough but different shapes. They show the sauces but you don't make them. It was also a lot more fun than I thought, with music and prosecco. In the end they made sure we got home ok and were just so lovely and sound. I'd do it again if I could! Don't book this class if you hate fun.
Claudia is a wonderful cook and teacher. She taught us how to make two kinds of pasta and both were delicious, along with delectable fried treats. We even made a Pavlova cake to celebrate her daughter's birthday.
The whole experience was enjoyable, from the ease of meeting her husband Bruno at the station, to their lovely home amid an olive grove, to the delicious food and great company. I highly recommend this experience with Claudia!
The cooking class was great! Emanuele had so much fun teaching us everything - you can feel that he is passionate about cooking. The location was super nice, the group size perfect. We can absolutely recommend the course!
Claudia and Bruno's home is warm and welcoming. The grounds are beautiful and Claudia picked greens and herbs right from her garden for your meal. We thoroughly enjoyed learning to make ravioli and eating tons of delicious food! I would do it again in a heartbeat. We put them in our blog
Two teens and two adults. We had a great time, and enjoyed the people, the food, and the locale. It was truly a highlight of our trip! Good directions, and easy to navigate as well.
Thank you for a wonderful day!!!
The pasta making class was great fun and the dishes tasted amazing. Included a tour of the vineyard and wine tasting with the food. Our group had an amazing time, definitely the highlight of our trip and would recommend for anyone looking to do something slightly different when visiting Rome.
We were a family of 2 adults and 2 kids and we thoroughly enjoyed our class, we did lots of things in Rome and this was the best. Very kind and informative chefs, yummy food and we have even come home and made pasta again. It is one of the more expensive things we did on our trip but worth every penny and would highly recommend.
We had a wonderful time learning from Marco at our pizza and gelato class while visiting Rome. We enjoyed learning new techniques and recipes from a true Italian. Wonderful experience, highly recommend!
The class was amazing! Our instructor was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, which made the class very enjoyable and fun. We made fresh pasta and tiramisu and were treated with complementary Prosecco as well. Highly recommended!
