Mengapa Mengambil Kelas Memasak di Ubud ialah Yang Mesti Dilakukan
The town of Ubud is surrounded by lush paddy fields and scattered with Hindu shrines and temples. So why not learn about the culture of food in Bali’s paragon of culture and history? Learn how to cook authentic Balinese food, where in most of our cooking classes you will be able to go to a local market to pick out your ingredients for your cooking. With a surfeit of vegetation in Ubud, we also offer vegetarian and vegan cooking classes, where you will be able to pick your own vegetables on an organic farm.

Apa Kata Pelancong
We had such a great time, from start to finish. The organization was very slick, a really well-oiled machine. We were collected from our hotel, and then because we took the morning class we went to the market. Our driver /guide explained some of the foods to us, and we had the opportunity to buy spices, tea, and coffee. After that, we went to the cooking school, which is professionally kitted out with room for maybe 20 people.
You can make a meat/fish, vegetarian, or vegan meal, as you like. The food you cook is what you eat, so you can adjust the spice and seasoning levels to your taste.
The staff explain how to do everything, and are always on hand if you need help. After you've cooked, you sit down to enjoy your dishes and have the recipes to take home with you to recreate your holiday in your home kitchen. I would highly recommend this class.
The experience started when Wayan picked us up at our hotel. What great energy this guy has. The experience was so memorable, having the opportunity to get inside the Balinese culture. We went to their local food market and then to his grandma's house, where the cooking class happens. We learned a bit about their culture, religion, and lifestyle. We cooked 7 dishes that were DELICIOUS and so meaningful. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Bali.
This class was really fun! We started with tasting a bunch of coffee and traditional Balinese snacks and learning how to brew it ourselves. We then proceeded to roast our own beans to take home, which was definitely the highlight of the class! The instructors were very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful during all of this! The car ride to the farm was pretty long, but there were beautiful views along the way. Once at the farm, we got to try the oranges the coffee cherries grow under as well as the coffee cherries. We had a great time picking the cherries and roaming around the thick brush. Afterward, we drive further up the mountain and have a delicious buffet lunch with a gorgeous view of the volcano. Finally, they take you to try Luwak coffee, along with several other tasty beverages all while looking over a gorgeous view with many picture opportunities!
This was one of our favorite moments during our travels in Indonesia. The cooking class was well-organized and easy to follow and we made a variety of delicious dishes. Wayan and his family are really kind and helpful. Wayan taught us about the food, Balinese culture, and their Balinese house, all very interesting! We would definitely recommend this cooking class.
"A Very Well-Organized Class With More Than Just Cooking"
From the moment we were picked up from our accommodation by the friendly and pleasant driver Ketut to the end of the class, I was highly impressed! Ketut drove us to the market, where locals shopped for fresh food and explained the various ingredients. We were then driven to the class.
The entire team - the lovely informative owner (mother-in-law - please forgive me for forgetting the names), the beautiful daughter-in-law, who conducted the class, and all the team were very friendly, highly organized, and worked efficiently.
The owner explained to us the Balinese culture, the setup of the family system, spirituality, etc. which gave a very good insight and understanding of Bali and its people.
We gained a very good understanding of the different ingredients used in Balinese cooking and the methods used in the preparation. Best of all the teaching style was through involvement, which meant every participant got to physically do the preparation and the cooking.
The setup of the house with two huge teaching areas made it easy for the organizers to divide us into two groups. We were a group of six, which was a manageable size.
At the end of the class, we all enjoyed the food that was presented in a buffet style. The daughter-in-law (apologies for forgetting the name) beautifully packed food for my daughter, who could not attend the class due to illness. Thank you so much!
I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in learning new skills.
We had the best time in this cooking class. The team was very accommodating and they ran a very good class. The program was well-planned and very easy to follow.
Since coming home we have already been using things we learned. I can't wait to make some of the dished, so delicious and healthy.
I would recommend this class to anyone that is interested in local Balinese and Indonesian food.
The course description is right on point - we visited the market, learned about ingredients and cooking tools, and cooked and ate some great food. But we also learned a lot about Balinese culture and how cooking fits into it and helps preserve it. Plenty of time for breaks and eating with a welcoming but no-pressure atmosphere to participate - just right for vacation! Incredible setting as well!
Our hostess was smart, knowledgeable, and funny. She welcomed us with drinks and snacks and gave us some personal insight into Indonesian culture and society. She spent time discussing the different types of ingredients (and letting us taste them) that went into Indonesian cooking. Nine dishes are impossible to make all on our own in a short period, but we divided tasks and participated in all the dishes while a skilled team of helpers then took our efforts and combined them into something better. The other participants were fun to talk to and the food was delicious. Absolutely a class I would recommend to others.
We loved this class. We learned a lot about Balinese culture. We made so many dishes, and everyone got to participate in each dish. They were so very organized and I can't believe how much we learned and accomplished, from the local market to the kitchen. This was one of the best classes I have ever taken while traveling.
"So eine unglaublich schöne und liebevolle Erfahrung"
Von vorne bis hinten perfekt! Tara hat uns zuhause abgeholt und zu der Kochschule seiner Familie gebracht. Alles wurde Schritt für Schritt erklärt und gezeigt. Das Essen war unfassbar lecker und wir konnten sogar die Reste mit heim nehmen.
"Very informative, well run and entertaining course"
My 18 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed the cooking course. We only booked it the night before but the car arrived on time and everything worked like clockwork.
The course was very well run, we went to the market first and were show all the local produce including what we would be using them were welcomed to the hosts house.
On the course itself we cooked 7 dishes together including fish, meat and vegetable dishes that we got to eat at the end (there is a lot so don’t have a big breakfast). The dishes were delicious.
We were also given a recipe book for all of the dishes we cooked.
In all I would thoroughly recommend this course, content, organisation and value for money were excellent.
Finally all our hosts were absolutely charming and never stopped smiling which was a delight.
We had so much fun cooking with Wayan and his family. First, we got an explanation about the ingredients at the local market and next, we visited the family's rice fields which were stunning. We got some time to walk around and take some photos. The cooking class itself was so well organized and fun. Everything was explained very well and it was very easy to follow the instructions. We prepared some tasty dishes in no time which we then ate at the restaurant. I would highly recommend doing this cooking class, it's an experience you will talk about for months! :D
The class, ran by Sumampan’s head chef, was above and beyond our expectations! My partner and I were the only ones in the class (as they purposefully keep class bookings to just who you book with) with this allowing for all the attention and assistance needed to perfectly execute the three-course Balinese feast! The hospitality, patience, encouragement and expertise from the Sumampan team was of the highest levels. We left with new cooking skills, recipes, a better understanding of Balinese food and culture, a full tummy and massive smiles on our faces!
We booked the cooking class early in the morning and startet with a fantastic tour around the local market. Afterwards we went to the beautiful farm where we selected our vegetables and startet cooking.
The staff was extremely friendly and the hygiene was perfect. Also the local indunesioan dishes were delicious.
They were super responsive to allergies and requests and the course was also perfectly tailored to vegans.
A great experience and we would book it again at any time and can definitely recommend it!
Ketut and his family were so kind and hilarious throughout our cooking class! Everyone gave us knowledge about the dishes we were making and even got the recipes after to try again at home. We booked the morning class so Ketut’s family showed us around the local market and showed us all the ingredients we would be using later on.
The dishes were all amazing, and the people so loving. Recommend to everyone visiting Ubud!
The cooking class was so much fun. We got a welcome drink and some explanation of the indonesian culture wich was really interesting and nice! The food was delicious and the yellow sauce is something I will definitely make at home!! Their pets are the cutest. Really enjoyed this experience!!!
Couldn“t have been better...loved seeing the fresh.herbs and ingredients first hand...great to start with something so quick like the sambal...I got a total thrill.from.seeing fresh tamarind used for the first time！！！ and the heat of that （half） a chilli was something else.
I.loved chopping.up.the garlic, shallots, spring.onion.and chilli.with the.other participants, and observing the.nasi.goreng and mei.goreng.being.put together.
Likewise, it was a toyal.thrill.to.smell and see.how you grind the freshly cooked peanurs on.that huge.mortar and.pestle for the peanut sauce.....with the precooked cloves of garlic.
What a cuisine！！！！！
I am.happy just sitting here in Australia recollecting.my.marvellous experience.
Thankyou Honeymoon Guesthouse and Casa Luna Cooking School.....
Very good organized: Transport, visiting market, cooking class! People very friendly, good english speaking and funny 🤣
Very tasty food, everithing freshly made, vegan options
A wonderful experience! Thank you for all
We had the best day cooking with Wayan! We started the day going to the market where we could taste typical fruits and products. When we arrived at her beautiful outside cooking class she showed us their rice fields and we made our own offer. Wayan is a very warm, fun and friendly teacher with a passion for food and cooking. We made lots of delicious dishes and Wayan told us everything we wanted to know about Bali and their culture.
The cooking class is one of our highlights staying in Bali so would definitely recommend. Thank you so much Wayan!
It was a very nice experience. 7:40 the driver picked us. 8:00 a.m. we went on a market close to Ubud. The driver let us try some fruits and typical balinese sweets. After that he showed us a rice field and he brought us to the cooking class in the house. The cook was very nice explained everything and we also cooked.9 dishes we did! After that we ate our dishes from a buffet which we had cooked for lunch. It was interesting and delicious. I really recommend it!
Subak cooking class was a one-of-a-kind experience, from the local market to the rice field visit and explanation of cultivation to the actual cooking. 1 paste 9 meals, and 1 dessert. So informative and interactive. The staff were excellent and friendly, I did it as a solo traveler; I would 100% recommend it. Not just for couples. If you enjoy Indonesian food, taking this delicious food and knowledge home is a must. Thank you
Such good value for 8am-1pm visiting the market and the rice friends and then cooking a huge delicious feast. As I’m vegetarian they prepared all the alternatives to the meat with tofu and Tempe and let me cook and get my food first to avoid contamination it was a great. I even got to take leftovers home for dinner haha. The people were so lovely I can’t wait to cook these dishes at home for my family, thanks for a great time!
Superb experience. Pick up instructions clear, transfer on time. Interesting start picking some ingredients, then the actual cooking, food tasted great and cost of drinks very reasonable. But what really made our day was the staff, humorous, informative and made the whole experience great fun. Price was also very reasonable. Cannot recommend highly enough!
We have done a number of cooking classes throughout Asia and found this to be one of the best, if not the best. This is a very well run operation. The facilities are good and the instruction is excellent. We not only cooked a wide range of good food but learnt a lot about the ingredients and Balinese culture. I would highly recommend doing this class.
This was a fantastic experience and I can’t recommend it enough. I learnt a lot about the coffee growing process, the challenges facing Balinese coffee farmers and the difference between different types of coffee.
Since market was closed for the day, Rakesh swapped that experience by taking me to Mas village for some wood carvings shopping..
He showed me around his house, pointing out the traditional elements of the house.
The ingredients were laid out and explained. The process included chopping, pounding and cooking. It was enjoyable and fun. The flavours were amazing and was amazing to learn the end to end process from raw ingredients to final dish.
I would have loved to have a conversation about the ingredients, evolution of Balinese food and some history or background to the differences in flavours from around Bali or Indonesia.
What a fantastic time we had! First, the place we cooked in was gorgeous. The trip to the market was a nice experience but unfortunately we were there before most stalls had opened because of the holiday the day before (not really anyone’s fault). Everyone who worked there were so friendly and informative and walked us through the entire cooking process which we got to help with. The food we made was delicious and we got to eat buffet style when we were done. We would definitely go back!
After they picked us up we went on a local market tour with a guide who explained a lot and helped us buy local fruit for local prices. When we got back we got a nice drink and local snack and they told us more about their traditions which was very interesting! Then the cooking started and it was a lot of fun. It was well prepared, well explained and very traditional. The food was amazing and we got a recipe book to try it at home. Would definitely recommend!!!
What a day! In the middle of the jungle you’ll get an authentic cooking class. Best ingredients from the garden and amazing recipes. We were so full after it.
The instructors were super friendly and we had an amazing time. Would totally recommend it
Great fun, hands on experience, teaching us about traditional Balinese ingredients, dishes and ways of cooking. The food was great and the beautiful women who run the day are fantastic and loads of fun. I wish we had time to do the Friday class too! Would definitely recommend for people wanting to try something different.
One of the highlights of our trip. Excellent cooking class (we had a dozen so far, so we can compare) : lovely farm, proficient and funny instructor, balanced meals and much more.
We highly recommend it !
"Best experience I’ve had. Great cooking, amazing pool and great place"
Loved the whole experience. From the picking up to the cooking and dropping off. Their house area is amazing and also have a restaurant. It’s not far from Ubud and really worth the visit (also if you don’t do the cooking class and just want good food, friendly staff and a lovely surrounding)
My partner and I really enjoyed this cooking class. We took the afternoon class, Wayan and his family has welcomed us to their home like we are part of their family. He taught us not only to cook but also gave us some information on how balinese people live. This was such a great experience! We also made 6 dishes and they were all very delicious. At the end we were given a recipe for us to take home. I would highly recommend this to everyone !!
I loved this experience! Super well organised, I enjoyed the non-cooking parts of the day as well - the visit to the market, making the offering, learning about rice farming and learning about a traditional Balinese house - even the cheeky monkeys coming to check out our food was all part of the fun! Thanks to the team for putting together such a lovely day for our group :).
We can not recommend this cooking class enough, we had a fabulous afternoon, learning to cook some delicious food.
All the staff are very welcoming and friendly and the farm is stunning. What makes it even better, everything is grown on the farm. I can not wait to try these recipes at home, thank you for wonderful memories.
Loved our cooking class with Ketut, from the morning market visit, understanding how rice is cultivated, the fun of cooking our 9 courses to sitting down to eat our feast for lunch, everything was entertaining and delicious. Can't wait to go home and impress my family with my new Balinese cooking skills.
It was so, so cool!
You learn a lot of interesting facts about fruits, vegetables and spices and the cooking class itself show you how to use it.
The family owned farm is just beautiful and the people are so friendly!
You really should book this cooking class!
High recommend :-)
We were picked up at our hotel before going to the rice terraces and learning about the rice. We then went to the market and learned about different types of ginger and got to try some yummy oranges and snacks on the way. Then we went to the cooking class led by Wayan. My sister and I did the vegetarian option and loved every dish! Wayan and the other staff were incredible always on hand to help and clear stuff away. At the end we ate our creations and it was so tasty
Such a brilliant tour, I'm so happy I found it! It was lovely to get off the beaten track somewhat and visit a local market, such a treat for the senses. The cooking class itself was just divine. I loved each and every dish we made, it felt so easy too! If only I had everything I needed surrounding me in my kitchen like that at home I'd eat like a queen forever. I'll be taking some new culinary skills back home with me and some happy memories of friendly staff and fellow tour guests.
Really enjoyed the cooking class. Wayun our chef, was fun, engaging and spoke good English.
It was lovely to be taught in his family home and was good to hear about how Balinese houses are set up.
The food was fresh and tasty and well organised.
We started with a market visit which was good and then went to the house for hands on experience of chopping and cooking.
The food was super tasty and as vegetarians plenty of alternatives which was great!
We were given a full menu card to try all the items at home. Certainly will give some of it a go!
Highly recommend the class.
Added bonus we were picked up from our hotel so hassle free.
Prior to attending the course, Tresna provided clear communication on what will be covered, timings, google map’s location code and preparation instructions for the day.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Adi, Frances and their lovely team of sous-chefs with a refreshing Ginger and Cinnamon cold drink. The workstations were nicely laid out with a chopping knife, board, apron and towel and a sticky name tag.
The class sizes are intimate - ours was 8 - which meant both Frances and Adi could assist all participants.
Before we started cooking, we were invited to pick some of the ingredients from the garden adjacent to the cooking school. Here we learnt how Adi and Frances carefully grow their fruit, vegetables and herbs to ensure that the cooking school, and the surrounding houses in the village have the freshest ingredients.
The garden is filled with everything from Durian to jackfruit, ginger, galangal, turmeric, moringa to vanilla pods and their own coconut trees.
There were about 4-5 sous chefs - an incredible team who were instrumental behind the scenes to pick and prepare the ingredients which we needed for class - this ensured we had the freshest ingredients, and we were able to cook a number of dishes in a short space of time. They even had time to make us some tempeh and sambal nibbles as we cooked.
Once we picked these fresh ingredients, Adi taught us some useful knife skills and how to prepare different vegetables and herbs.
In total, we cooked 8 dishes and 2 pastes with a few snack breaks. Along the way, Frances and Adi gave us hand tips on how to adapt recipes for similar ingredients which would be available in our home countries. They were also careful to include each participant in the cooking process, be it either pulling a salad together or preparing a curry.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience in traditional Balinese cuisine typically cooked at home and during ceremonies with the freshest ingredients. After class, we feasted on all the food we had made and it truly felt like we were having lunch with our family. At lunch, Frances shared some fascinating stories about her life journey so far, some of which were very moving.
Tresna (who also offer non-veg classes) was one of the few who offered vegan classes that we came across that did not use the terms vegan and vegetarian interchangeably which due to our dietary requirements was truly appreciated. We didn't know what to expect going in, other than just a cooking class. We however walked away with incredible memories and a true appreciation for Balinese food and culture.
We learnt that Tresna means "love" in Balinese and witnessing what Adi and Frances have created and accomplished so far on their life's work, we can see that they act purely out of love and have the biggest hearts.
We would thoroughly recommend joining this class, and we wish Adi and Frances every success in their endeavours.
Adi and Frances deliver an authentic experience, complete with an informative garden tour, hands on prep and cooking, and a spectacular vegan meal. The kitchen is spotless, modern and comfortable. The vibe is warm and soulful. Highly recommend this unique Balinese experience.
Ketut’s cooking class was a fantastic experience. The food we made was delicious and they give you the recipes to take home. Staff were awesome and made the experience so much more enjoyable. It is hands on with the prep but with some of the dishes they cook the food for you while you make the dish, which we liked as we didn’t want to spend the whole day cooking and just wanted to eat the food once we started to smell it!
We had an amazing day shown round all the rice fields the class was set in the most perfect setting imaginable, we would highly recommend this cooking class to everyone ! Thank you for a fantastic day.
The whole experience was just great, from the beginning of going to rice fields and the farmers market to the class itself it was just amazing. Wayan was a great teacher and the food we made was delicious. The whole thing was super well organised too.
Amazing!!!! Everything was so fantastic, I never thought cooking could be so much fun. The whole experience was so great, the food, the atmosphere, our wonderful teacher Nyoman and his village. The class is held in his home surrounded by his 42 family members. Nyoman not only taught us traditional Balinese cooking but taught us about the Balinese culture, the health benefits of the fruit and vegetables and the balance of life. Nyoman’s uncle ‘Wayan’ was also a wealth of knowledge, he taught us the zen of life. I would have to say in all the years I have been coming to Bali, this cooking class was the best thing I have done, I loved every minute of it, this class needs to be on everyone’s ‘To do list’.
This was an experience we will never forget. There was a lot of explaining about the food, vegetables, herbs an also the daily living in a compound. We cooked 9 dishes. We can hardly recomend this cooking class.
The class was incredibly well organised and run. The drivers and teachers were lovely! We worked in pairs to prepare the ingredients for cooking. The teachers were patient and demonstrated and directed all that was required. The food was beautiful. I couldn’t recommend this class more. A must do for your Ubud trip!
The care the chefs gave us was great. They taught not just the recipie but more efficient ways to cook - such as knife handling, and techniques for the mortar and pestel.
I also really appreciated their comments on western substitutions for plants and flavours - it can be difficult to duplicate food without that guidance!
