When we go to a new city, we like to look for opportunities to understand local culture beyond the tourist facade. This was one of the best we've done.l, and ended up being a highlight of our trip to Oaxaca, and Mexico more broadly. Sonia, Baldo and their family were very warm. We learnt a lot from the experience about Oaxacan food and culture, and the food we prepared was the best we had. I'm also really keen to make empanadas when I get home! Our two kids, aged 14 and 16, also loved the experience. I think it's definitely a great experience for families.
Carlos gave us a truly unique tour of Oaxaca, combining a delicious variety of foods and drink with a customized tour of the neighborhoods and murals. He was incredibly knowledgable, attentive and fun to be with. I would highly recommend Carlos as your guide on a street food tour of Oaxaca!
We really enjoyed this cooking class! The market visit was really interesting picking out different fruits to sample and trying the chocolate. Victor was a great instructor telling us why things are done a certain way and organizing all the dishes. We made 2 salsas, tortillas, a vegetable mix, mole, herbed rice, and quesadillas (with or without cheese). We also had a fruit plate and hibiscus tea to drink with our meal. We recommend!
I was so impressed by the guides on this tour. They were very engaged, informative and helpful. I've traveled all over the world and honestly this is one of the best food tours I've been on! The man who was the main guide was funny and full of interesting information. I learned so much and later when I talked to my friends who'd already been to Mexico City, I told them things that they didn't know. You must go on this tour! And food was spectacular!
The directions that were sent through Cookly were misleading and unclear. We arrived 1/2 hour late because of that. Please make sure you update those in the future
Our guide Bryan took us on an insightful tour of the second largest market on Mexico here in Oaxaca. We learned a lot about different cuisines within the state of Oaxaca, ingredients and recipies. And sampled delicious plates. Thanks dear team at Teolab/Etnofood for this educational and culinary experience. Best regards, Tom & Stefani
Every moment was so well organized and enjoyable. The deliciousness and variety of dishes was astounding! The staff was so friendly and encouraging. I recommend this experience wholeheartedly. If I go back to Oaxaca, I will sign up again.
We very much enjoyed our Mole class with Oscar. He was very organized, and while he covered a lot of ground very quickly, it was clear and well thought out. And delicious!
Loved the cooking and eating parts Would have liked more guidance and understanding of the things in the market, what we were buying, and how locals shop. Also loved that the class was small so everyone got to do everything. The teacher was sweet helpful and clear in his instructions.
Everything about it was wonderful - Baldo and all of the cooks and helpers were amazing, plus we really enjoyed all the food. Our only issue was finding room to eat it all! We love Oaxacan food and the variety, plus the freshness and selections were terrific!
Our day was quite an experience! Jose, who taught us, provided a unique, well-paced, and tasty experience in a beautiful urban farm setting. We made tortillas from scratch and stuffed them with cactus, mushrooms and cheese. We made vegetable soup, chicken with almond mole, pork with adobo and a surprisingly tasty plaintain dessert. From the way we were greeted, to the trip to the market and finally eating, our day was an experience we won't forget. There was mescal and beer for the taking as well as water and juice. Go do this!!!
This class was everything you could hope for in a cooking class, with a realistic timeframe. I can't believe how much we fit in. We met at the kitchen, they let our group choose what we wanted to make, then we all walked to a local organic market. There, our guide introduced us to many wonderful native ingredients and we met the local producers. After, we returned to the kitchen, prepped, and cooked our 6 course meal. Everything was great.
Was a fun cooking class that produced many delicious dishes! Oscar was fun to work with and I loved his green chicken salt.
We really enjoyed this tour. The host was knowledgeable about both chocolate and art and very passionate. We were fortunate to have several other guides with us who were equally charming. Would highly recommend this tour!
It was a great experience . We learned a great deal at the market. The chef did a great job giving everyone tasks to participate in cooking the meal. The lunch was delicious - enhanced by a margarita and a taste of mezcal. Would recommend.
