The former capital of the Lanna kingdom is a place where modern houses live among ancient temples. We invite you to explore the ties that the Northern province has with the rest of Thailand through the food. Our cooking classes offers you to learn and get hands on experience and skills in cooking both traditional Thai food and traditional Northern food (we also offer vegan cooking classes). Moreover, in most of our classes you will have the chance to visit a local market to pick out fresh ingredients to use in your cooking.
I found Xie’s class on Cookly, booked it late the day before in blind faith, and turned out to be the only student she had today. Private cooking class, I’ll take it. We cruised around a market away from town, learning about the cornucopia of spices, noodles, tofus, and rice they have here, then went back to her parents place to cook all day. It was a total delight, and the kind of experience I could have only hoped for halfway around the world. It’s satisfying to make and taste a cuisine that you’ve always shied away from for years. Xie was an awesome, peppy, knowledgeable teacher. Her mom owned a Thai restaurant for 32 years that Xie helped cook in, so she’s got a wealth of excellent knowledge. Was also nice to get a local perspective on the city, it’s always so hard to jump in and know what to do/where to go in a way that’s true to a place. Hopefully some of you guys can take Xie’s class if you’re ever in Chiang Mai, and then cook local Thai food back home!

This class is led by Oui, a home cook and native of northern Thailand. She has a very friendly and individualised approach with a small class size.
This class is not the cheapest available, but the value gained from Oui's experience and attention, broad range of dishes taught, and being welcomed into her home all make this worthwhile.

"A place totally worth recommending."
Thanks to the pick-up service, it's not a problem to reach the school. The visit at the market gives you background in the main ingredients found in the Thai cuisine.
The school itself is located in countryside and has a nice garden where you could play with the owners' dogs.
The 'classroom' is big enough to accommodate up to 30 persons, though I was a part of 10-persons group.
As majority of the group were Swiss, for most of the lesson we were assisted by Michael, the school owner, who is Swiss himself.
The teachers, Art and Gem, were very attentive and cheerful. They gave tips that were easy to follow even by the children attending the class.
A nice touch is a cookbook received at the end of the class.

"Personable and perfect!"
This class was absolutely amazing! It exceeded all expectations and then some :) We each were able to make our own dishes and by the time we got to the entree we were already full!
I especially liked the extra added touch of them sending us the recipes of what we prepared so we can do it at home.
The grounds were beautiful, well organized course and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
Mahalo from Hawaii!

"So much fun and a great cultural experience"
This was one of our favorite experience in Chiang Mai. Our cook and guide, Kanyarat, was amazing. We went to a local market and she explained local fruits and vegetables, we also got to taste some of the fruits and banana wrapped sticky rice (delicious), we then went to the farm and picked ingredients from the garden to cook with. The class room was clean and the menu we got to choose from was great. I loved making the papaya spicey salad and curries, the banana and mango deserts were also great. Then we got to sit and eat the meal we prepared in the beautiful location.
Best Cooking Class in Thailand. Karen and Geoff.
