We've taken quite a few in our travels. The full-day cooking class was awesome. Erlinda and her crew were so fun and engaging. And they were such a well-oiled machine. There were times when they would switch out for one another and you barely even noticed. There were only the two of us on our day but I can imagine it gets crazy with a lot more people. The food was incredible and we're already talking about which recipes we're going to make again at home. Unfortunately, there was way too much food for us to complete. But every but was delicious. I would 100% recommend Erlinda and her crew.
The cooking class was a very authentic experience. We were picked up at Canggu at 8 in the morning. Then we went to an authentic Balinese market, where Erlinda explained to us every Balinese ingredient, as well as traditions one can expect in a traditional market. After that Erlinda took us to her beautiful home and well-equipped cooking studio. Where we got a yummy breakfast and learned how to cook 14 Balinese recipes from scratch, without artificial ingredients or sauces, the atmosphere was terrific and we had such a good time. We also got help from her very friendly helpers. The food and dishes tasted so good. It was amazing how much we cooked in that short period. I would say this was a very authentic and non-touristic experience. I would recommend it and do it again.
We learned so much in the class, from visiting the local food market to making our pastes for chicken, fish, and pork. We cooked chicken in banana leaf, fish sate, chicken sate, Indonesian noodles, nasi goreng, and so much more. We prepared so many dishes and had small tastings along the way before we all sat down for lunch and ate what we had prepared. The instructor was very good and would explain anything that we were not sure of, and nothing was too much. The cooking classes were in groups of 6, so we had ample opportunity to ask questions while we and the instructor laughed and had so much fun. I would highly recommend Nia's cooking school. - Denise from Australia 😊
A great experience made ever so fun with chef Tommy Ford. Excellent knowledge of Balinese ingredients and cooking. I thoroughly enjoyed the session
Theodore was delightful. He made the class very enjoyable.
Thank you Chef Sudarmika! Respect! And thank you Ray! We loved the food choices! And loved eating the dishes at the end.
Such a fantastic cooking class from the visit to the market to learning all the different dishes. The class was so well organised and being in groups of 6 meant lots of hands on work. The food was delicious!
We were picked up from our hotel and on way picked up four more people . One of them said there were over 50 people doing the course . We nearly pulled out there and then . So glad we didn’t as it was an excellent cooking school and can easily cater for that number as they break down the groups to much smaller and we only had the 6 of us who arrived together . We cooked 9 dishes , did a wonderful market tour learning lots about Balinese ingredients and sat down to lunch with all the food we had cooked . Each group had their own station and chef with very efficient helpers in the background . We came away with a wonderful memories, a cookbook and a certificate .
Tommy, the chef, made it a great time. Lots of hands on and delicious food to eat at the end! Tommy was gracious enough to email a recipe of the dish we were served before starting. All in all a really fun experience.
This class deserves a good review! I booked a cooking class for my family of 4 for 16 June 2023 and we had so much fun learning the 3 recipes of famous Balinese food namely : 1. Sate lilit (chicken meat skewer) 2. Gedang Mekuah (Balinese Young Papaya Soup) 3. Urap Sayur (A dessert) Chef Nengah was friendly and instructed in English. We had ample hands-on experience after his brief demonstration. All in all, the class took around 2 hours and we got some extra time to dine in the restaurant savouring the food that we cooked. Booking was easy and instant. Once you have clicked to book followed by payment, you're in. I would suggest you book at least 24 to 48 hours in advance if you are interested as class size is limited to 4 at most. The class is conducted at the charming Maison at C Boutique Hotel & Spa Seminyak, a French colonial style hotel with Balinese accents. * Suggestion: If you can't check into your hotel yet upon arrival and need some activity to tide you in and have a nice lunch (cooked by you), the 12 noon to 2 pm class is great. You can leave your luggage with the reception.
Booked for the food that was to be cooked. Satay Ayam National Goreng Chicken Curry Corn Fritters Balinese Salsa Bean and sprout salad
We had a great day at the cooking class. Our chef/cook was fun and made the day very enjoyable. We learnt about a dozen dishes and got a recipe book at the end to take with us. We all sat together and tried the food, and there was heaps to go around. Also the hosts took many photos throughout the session then sent them to us via WhatsApp so we had memories of the great day. I thought it was very good value and would do it again if I was looking for something to do. The only hitch we had was we were forgotten to be picked up from our hotel in Canggu to the Seminyak class but that was quickly sorted out when the host sent a taxi to us to pick us up. So if you're thinking about a cooking class I wouldn't hesitate to do this one.
5h course in which we prepared a lot of tasty dishes which we got to try all together at the end of classes. Top quality in all details.
The class was great! “The chef” absolutely top notch. Had a wonderful experience
The whole experience was fantastic!! The staff were amazing and the food was beautiful
We started with a market tour. Learnt a bit of balinese culture. Tommy, the chef and tour guide was awesome. He was funny and informative. He kept the class entertaining. We made 12 course dishes. Every food was so delicious. We were so full in the end. Wish we could eat more!
This cooking class was an amazing experience. I joined the class with a friend, and we enjoyed it very much. I would recommend this class to everyone who is interested in an introduction in the Indonesian kitchen. Although we could not visit the market due to the heavy rain, we learned to make many dishes in an interactive way, and afterwards were able to try them all. We had a great cooking instructor who made the class extra fun. This was my first class via Cookly and will definitely book again.
Ease with pick up. Educational and fun host / chef in Komang. Tasty food and recipes to take away. Interactive & inclusive session with alternatives for me who is gluten free.
Erlinda and her lovely ladies run a very professional clocking school but at the same time you feel like you are learning to cook Balinese and Indonesian cuisine at home It is hands on at your own station with help from the lovely Erlinda and house ladies. Be ready for lots of cooking after you attended the local traditional produce markets to learn about some of the ingredients you will be using. Also you have your own recipe book of all the recipes and techniques also to make your own notes if wanted
Erlinda you are a chef and teacher of 5-star distinction!!! The day was spent learning not only about the Balinese culture and cuisine but also extend to preparing authentic dishes from other regional parts of Indonesia. Erlinda breaks down the seemingly complicated exotic tastes and mouthwatering flavors of Indonesian dishes into bite-size lessons that are immersive, dynamic, and fun—starting at the local traditional market, then moving on to her vegetable and herb garden, proceeding with prep work and cooking of multiple dishes, and lastly devouring what was just created. Ibu Astrid and Ibu Abi were most helpful. They assisted in the entire cooking experience helping to teach and demonstrate the technique of using the Ulekan (mortar and pestle) to the general cleaning that makes the entire experience seamless. Erlinda only uses help from the local unsung heroines “Ibu rumah tangga” (housewives) of the neighborhood. MEXX Cooking School will have you leaving the day equipped with new knowledge and skills you can immediately implement into your daily cooking routines. I learned a ton while having a blast. What a treat! I would highly recommend this school.
We booked this class because of the reviews, and we weren't disappointed. The experience of Tommy, the owner and chef, was incredible. He had us engaged from the time we met him until the end. The traditional Balinese menu was amazing to eat at the end, made by the class. I would recommend this class to anyone.
It was really nice participating in the cooking with small groups. The hosts had great English and knife skills and made sure to include everyone in the cooking. The host was sure to explain all the ingredients their history and compare the dishes to other cooking styles, including Javanese and Thai. It was a really enjoyable time with more food than we could ever finish! I would highly recommend the class and would take it again!
I would highly recommend this cooking class. We had a great morning at Warung Nia from 8am till 1.30pm. The cooking class was so much fun, all the steps were clear what to do and of course a lot of tasting. After all the cooking it was time to enjoy the food together. We had so much food and it was so nice! Definitely worth the money.
What a great class!! Jimmy’s market tour was informative with plenty of jokes and coffee recommendations. Tommy’s cooking demonstrations were so much fun, the menu highlighted traditional delicious food and plenty of laughs to go around! All finished with such an amazing lunch! A great day out and great value for money!!
great intro into Balinese cooking, even for beginners! the market tour showed us the ingredients that are regularly used in Balinese cuisine as well as alternatives if they are not available at home. the menu was well laid out. we learned basic techniques and preparation of ingredients for common food items like nasi goreng/mie goreng, satay, and papaya salad. the instructor was very knowledgeable and even if we were in a fairly large class (about 24 students) made sure it was fun and interactive learning experience for everyone. all in all a much recommended experience for anyone wanting to learn about Balinese cooking, or just wanting to try something new.
It was the best day. The girls explained everything to the T, They were amazing and so much fun. They made us feel like royalty. The food we cooked out of this world. Loved every minute of it.
My wife and I visited Bali last week and we were definitely looking forward to this cooking class and it definitely lived up to the hype. The Amala Resort was a beautiful venue where the cooking class took place. Chef Wiriyata was friendly, patient, and was overall an amazing chef to guide us through this cooking class. The food was absolutely delicious. The place where they served our food was also breathtaking. It was just my wife and I, and it was truly a romantic outdoor setting. It was serene and peaceful as well. We will definitely recommend this class to all our other friends who plan to visit Bali soon. Thanks again Chef Wiriyata!!! You are the best!
It was a fun activity for me and my fiancé! Our tour through the market was great to get to know many local ingredients. Our chef explained the different fruits and veggies we were going to use perfectly with comparing the flavours to typical things at home (even though we came from 6 different continents!). All together we prepared 9 dishes with help from the kitchen staff, to speed up the process and in the end we had a delicious meal! We even got a little cook book and pictures at the end. Thanks for making it a great experience!
I had lots of fun during the cooking class, learning about how the market works was really interesting too! The chef was super friendly! It was nice to learn how to prepare the traditional dishes we have been eating (and loving) almost daily during our stay in Bali. I recommend this class to everyone even if you have a restricted diet, we cooked vegan and non-vegan dishes and the vegan alternatives were delicious!
This class was excellent value and lots of fun! My sister and I learned about the local ingredients before assisting to cook 5 dishes. There were 3 professional Balinese chefs to teach us and ensure we get it all done in time. The class energy was easygoing and light-hearted - you can be involved and learn no matter your skill level. We finished with plenty of food for our lunch and it all tasted great. You also leave with a recipe booklet and apron to remember the day. I highly recommend this class for anyone looking for an authentic Balinese cooking experience.
I enjoyed the small group experience and felt totally at home in this well thought out homely kitchen. Would recommend to anyone looking for that personalized experience.
We had a great trip around the local food market learning about Balinese cooking ingredients. Our guide was knowledgeable, answered our questions, and above all had a great sense of humour. We returned to the restaurant and participated in an engaging cookery session, producing many local dishes. We met some other travellers during the class and at the end of the session shared an absolute feast for lunch, everything had been cooked by us. Two people in our group were vegetarian and the chef adapted some of the recipes to suit our dietary requirements. Definitely a great way to spend a morning if you love food!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the class. Fun entertaining and delicious. I would recommend any one going to Bali to participate.
This class was so fun, engaging and informative. Erlinda and her staff were all so lovely, funny and knowledgeable. There wasn't a minute where I was bored. All of the dishes were easy to follow, the class was seamless and well organised. Can't wait to cook some of these dishes back home. I would definitely do this class again and recommend to anyone coming to Bali!
From start to finish, the whole cooking experience was fantastic! We started our morning with a 7:30am pick up via our host from our hotel with a visit to the local market. We then headed to our hosts home and we were welcomed with a breakfast and coffee before heading downstairs to an excellent professional kitchen where we made some absolutely delicious food with the help of two additional lovely ladies who were on hand to assist us with the dishes. We then headed back upstairs with a welcome beer or a choice of cold drinks , the food that we cooked was presented to us in beautiful dished which we were then able to enjoy! What a truly fabulous experience!! Thank you ever so much
Our cooking class is fun, good explanation and if u had question the cook take time. Good atmosphere and jokes as well. The market tour is good with tasting some fruit and see spices such as Laos. Our multi culti group (Australia, Japan, Philipinnes, Canada, Chech Republic and the Netherlands). Most like dishes for me are papayasalad and sweet corn snack. All of us take part of preparation of dishes. Perfect to learn Balinese kitchen. Recommended!
Enjoyed the experience and learnt great tips. Food was delicious and staff were friendly and helpful
Great class we had 12 people separated into 2 groups. That was a comfortable size. We all cut ingredients and shared the preparation. So much food left over. I highly recommend taking a pen to make notes on the recipes.
I am a chef and have been travelling around Asia doing different courses. This is hands down the best one I have done so far. Amazing recipes, great chefs with a lot of know how and great tips. We made 10 recipes and then got to sit down and feast at the end of the class. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to get a hands on experience.
One of our favorite experiences when traveling in foreign countries is to take a local cooking class. This experience was exceptional, professional, and memorable. Perfect in every way. We cooked a variety of local favorites including Mie Goreng, Nasi Gorden, Soto Ayam, sambal, and several other items. Erlinda and her team were amazing and delightful to spend the afternoon with. They do some of the prep work of measuring portion sizes and chopping up some small items in advance so you spend your time in the kitchen doing the more interesting / rewarding work. The setting is pure tranquility and a lovely space to enjoy the feast you just cooked!
I don’t cook, but Erlinda made me cook and yes I loved it! Traditional Bali and Indonesian favourites shown simply. Knowing how to cook Mer Goreng noodles and Nadi Goreng properly is great! It’s so simple and we learned the special tricks that make it so much more tastier! We will be back and bring our friends! And DON’T eat breakfast!!😂
From the minute we were picked up from our hotel the team were awesome! The market visit was short and informative, the Bali breakfast, coffees and views were amazing and the team was so welcoming. We had great fun in the kitchen learning lots and all “ hands on” which was just what we wanted. 10 amazing dishes cooked. A fabulous easy to follow recipe book and inspiring and basic Bali dishes to cook when we get home!
We really didn’t know what to expect. All the staff were beyond excellent, especially Asterid ( class leader , not sure of her name spelling) Bob and Abby. The lesson was outstanding and the materials to take home were super and appreciated. The quality and taste of the food was 5 star quality in food and service. Beyond that they accommodated a 5 month old baby while we were cooking. There driver met us after the class with an item we forgot in his car. This was one of the main reasons we came to Bali, all our dreams came true. Thank you so much.
This class was just right the experience was wonderful with a great atmosphere. The food was fresh and amazing along with fantastic cooking staff Thankyou Coco Villas!
We had such a fun morning learning the art of Balinese cooking. Staff were very friendly, the class was hands on, and the food was amazing. I’d highly recommend this experience. We did it as a family and our two teens enjoyed it too.
We started with a market tour where we looked and tasted/smelled at lots of different fruits and vegetables and given info on cooking and suitable replacements if we couldn’t find things back home Then went back to the restaurant to prepare and cook many dishes. The chef was really knowledgable, gave us loads of tips and made the day fun. The food was delicious and can’t wait to try cooking some more when I get home
