In this private home-style Japanese class, you see how the Japanese culture, lifestyle, and food look like closely with the guide and chef. The dishes you will learn is the dish that Japanese has in every day. You will learn to create your own Japanese dish. We offer a different menu on a different day so you can decide what dish you prefer. In all dishes, we will discuss the history and the story behind that become a dish of Japanese. You would be totally surprised at the variety of food you cook, but eventually, you would feel very close to Japan.

This tour also included a short walk after lunch. You will see many attraction places with an explanation from the guide closely. You can ask about anything you want to know about Japan. This is the special cooking class and walks tour for you. This is how you spend time in Japan with friend and family.

Satoru (Sato)

I have a very unique background. I was born in Hokkaido and was raised in a town with rich nature and huge vegetable fields which my grandparents owned. As a child, I would harvest fresh vegetables from the field and cook them with my mother and grandmother who were wonderful cooks. Especially, my grandmother never ever compromised in quality or technique when cooking and taught me everything she knew. Besides, my grandfather owned miso factory so that I believe I grew up with the best quality of miso. After high school, I went to San Francisco to study photography and art, however, I came back to Japan after 9.11. I was a photographer for a while, but had realized that I already lost my passion into photography, so I had reset my whole photography career then thought about what I could do for my life and living. After several years since coming back from San Francisco, all of my grandparents passed away around the same time. After that, I felt the spirits from them and decided to inherit their skills and soul to the travelers from all over the world. Now, I am a super passionate home cooking teacher. I believe that there are so many delicious homemade Japanese foods that cannot be found in the restaurants and delights in sharing these dishes with travelers. As of 2020, I have met the travelers from around 80 different countries and many of them have become the repeaters of my class!!!

Ramen/Gyoza, Kara-age, Okonomiyaki,Yakisoba, Curry rice(katsu curry rice), Rice burger, etc

Alcohol (Beer/Sake) available with an extra charge of 500JPY

The menu changes depending on the day of the week. We’ll cook one of the menus with 2 to 4 items and afterward,

we'll have a walking trip which already included.

What I liked: Meeting Sato-san was my highlight! He welcomed us into his home kitchen and shared everything that he knows about preparing Japanese staples like miso soup and rice. He shared his mother’s homemade miso with us and showed us how to properly make miso soup from start to finish. Sato-san was so excited to share his rice burger recipe with us because he wants travelers to experience this local favorite! His recipe was also extremely delicious!
What to know: Take the class with the tour! That would be my biggest tip. Exploring Tokyo’s hidden gems with Sato-san will give you an unforgettable experience.
Good for: People interested in getting to know Tokyo and Japanese food with a local.
How to get there: Shinjuku metro station.

Cooking Class with Sato

Sato was a great host and we really enjoyed his company and the fantastic cooking class. A great experience with great food. The walk in the neighbourhood after lunch was also a very cool and allowed us to see different sides of Shinjuku.

Fantastic Cooking Class in Japan!

Loved this cooking class and tour experience. Satoru is very friendly, knowledgable, and honest. He's very proficient in English and he was able to explain some of the nuances of Japanese culture when we had questions. The food was fabulous and the stories memorable! We were in Japan for the holidays and Satoru was gracious enough to give us a tour and cooking class on the morning of New Year's Eve. It was my partner's favorite part of our Japan trip. You won't regret it!

Incredible experience with amazing host

Sato has been an exquisite host, we managed to cook some incredible traditional ramen and gyoza. I really recommend having this experience while in Tokyo, he brought us around his neighborhood and had a chance to talk and laugh about everything. Thank you again Sato!!

Perfect Japanese Cooking Experience!

We could not recommend this cooking class with Sato enough! I booked this with my wife and we had an amazing time that we will never forget! Sato was there at the meeting point early for us with umbrellas incase we did not have our own, so thoughtful! After a short walk to his lovely apartment, he then invited us into his home, where he made us green tea from his beautiful new teapot and opened up to us and told us his story. We started to prepare the food and cook, he was a brilliant teacher with lots of helpful tips for everything. My wife has a gluten intolerance and Sato was very vigilant in ensuring his meals did not include any gluten. The food was a beautiful authentic Japanese experience using seasonal ingredients....... And also super tasty! We sat down and ate all of the food together and had more interesting conversations. We then went for the tour afterwards (which we would highly recommend doing), visiting hidden gems throughout Shinjuku and Nakano guided by the wonderful Sato, before departing ways 😥 We will definitely be booking a class when we are next back in Tokyo to catch up and try the different seasonal foods!

Best class / tour you can find!

This cooking class is very authentic, and cooking Japanese style in Sato's home is unique and worth while. I cant recommend this one enough! Sato is a super great host, he will make you feel welcome and comfortable and he will satisfy your hunger with delicious food you will learn to cook. Thanks Sato-San!
