The “Vietnamese Venice” is integrated with a plethora of canals and is known for it’s melting pot of culture and history, demonstrated in its diverse architecture. In our cooking classes, you will find the sundry of Vietnamese cuisines reflected in the food that you cook. We offer classes on general Vietnamese food, where you can take a bicycle or boat tour through the canals to further explore the dynamic city where the cuisine you will be cooking was created. Some of our cooking classes offer you to take a trip to the local market to collect your ingredients. We even offer specific niche classes, for example you can learn how to master pho, or choose to pick fresh herbs from a garden to incorporate into your cooking.

We had a private cooking class to celebrate our wedding anniversary and our instructor was extremely sweet and the food was really good! I loved what the instructor had lined up and at the end, we had an awesome feast.
Most of the cooking classes that this school/company offers are shopping for ingredients and then doing the cooking class. However, we only signed up for the cooking class since we didn't have time to do the shopping. We still enjoyed the class very much and would do it again. Highly recommend. We also didn't have a car so we had the option to get picked up and dropped off at no additional cost.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day. The basketboat ride was fun, and very interesting going through the Coconut Forrest. We loved our cooking experience, we learned a lot and had fun cooking up our own meals after Nie our teacher showed us what to do. She was a very good chef and teacher and was passionate about her job and the food we were cooking. I highly recommend you do this.
This was the best cooking class I have ever done! Sun (not sure how to spell it, but it sounds like “soon”) was our guide and was the BEST. She was from the local village of Tra Que, so she was very knowledgeable about the area and local life and cuisine. It included a bike ride through the country and rice fields, 4 dishes, a tour of a small, local food market, and a tour of the Tra Que farm. We were the only 2 in the group, so we had a great, personalized experience. The local garden that we toured was incredible and beautiful. Great way to support a small village and family and get away from some of the main touristy activities like the basket boats. Available vegetarian.
This class offered everything from a great cooking lesson, to boat rides, massages and a welcome drink. It seriously was the WHOLE package. My two friends and I all left with such great things to say and incredibly full from the amazing food. It was a lighthearted atmosphere with the owner and staff and it made it a really worthwhile experience. HIGHLY recommend to anyone visiting Hoi An!
We were lucky enough to have a “private class” as no other groups booked the same time as us. The market visit was interesting and fun, our guide was knowledgable and made us feel comfortable straight away.
The agenda online says row boat to Island but we went on a basket boat down the coconut river which was fun and meant we didn’t need to book a separate basket boat tour.
Nhi was lovely, funny and patient. She was very attentive, topping us up with drink and made the overall experience worth while. The food we made was delicious and was given souvenirs to take back (chopsticks + mandoline)
Would definitely recommend this class!
This was a great class with a great instructor. She showed us how to make several dishes, all of which were delicious. She answered questions, and I feel like I can make these dishes in my kitchen at home now. The meal at the end was relaxed and lovely, we got to eat the food we made, as well as a few other dishes, in a beautiful restaurant setting. A great evening, and the food turned out amazing!
My family (including 3 teenagers) had the most wonderful day with the team at Sabirama. Aung was an incredible host and teacher. She has a fabulous combination of patience and good humour. The cooking was complex enough to feel like we were truly having a lesson, but easy enough to know we will recreate them at home.
This tour easily accomodated a wheelchair, extra time in Hoi An and a late drop off. And some great shopping tips too.
Had a good time walking through the market, riding the bamboo boats, and then learning to cook some Vietnamese dishes! I particularly enjoyed the menu of the items we cooked which is mainly why I booked this class. A warning though that the listing says the class ends at 12:30pm, but we were not even halfway through the dishes by 12:30pm, and I had to leave by 12:50pm to go to another tour I had scheduled, so missed dessert.
The cooking class was very good and informative.
We learned a lot and laughed.
In addition, you have the opportunity to learn more about the life of people in the countryside, which was very good.
The bike tour to the cooking course was very nice and you could get new impressions of the landscape.
The dishes was very good to cook and we got every step explained perfectly. The products for cooking were of very good quality.
Many thanks for the beautiful day.
We had a great day. Everything was well organised, from the market tour to the boat ride, to the massage to the cooking. The food was delicious, and the dishes where easy and fun to make because Hung explained it very well en demonstrates everything. A lot of the dishes aren’t hard to make at home as well so you can take the learned skills home (as well as the recipes). Hung was a lovely humorous teacher, and we had a good laugh besides the cooking. We had all the dishes vegan, and they were so tasty (would recommend even if you’re not vegan/vegetarian). In my opinion the duration of the session could be even a little longer since the time flew (good thing). All in all: very nice cooking class.
(We didn’t do the Buffalo ride, not sure why not, but we didn’t miss it, we do saw a cute cow that we could pet)
Very nice experience. Started with a welcome drink, followed by showing us how they traditionally hull rice, then how they separate the hulls, and then liquefy the rice to make the rice paper. Then we each took turns making one. We then made spring rolls with out 'rice pancake'. All in all we made 4 dishes and had a locally made sesame pudding for dessert. We parted ways with the folks going back by boat some time around 2pm I think and hopped on our bikes, but not before visiting a local home and seeing how sleeping mats are woven. The bike pace was very leisurely with several stops along the way to see rice wine production, a temple, how basket boats are made and used with an opportunity to try it out, and saw how they do shell inlay. One thing I really appreciated about this tour was that there was 0 pressure to buy anything ever.
Chef met us at our hotel and we took a golf cart to our bicycle stop. Then a very exciting bike ride through Hoi An traffic! One of our party wasn’t able to bicycle so she rode in style on the back of his scooter.
After a tour of a local market, we headed to the country for a peaceful ride between rice paddies.
The Tra Que Herb village is an amazing community space with organic gardens and shrimp pools. We learned how they grow vegetables and then headed to the pavilion to cook our lunch.
Chef and his wife Moon are great hosts. We made 4 delicious dishes and we were very happy to hear they wash vegetables in treated water so we were able to enjoy them uncooked!!
And we didn’t have to ride our bicycles back to town….he drove us in his SUV
An excellent experience!!
Nhi is a great person and a great chef, she has a sense of humour and taught us step by step how to make the most delicious dishes.
Besides amazing food, the open space surrounded by the lake is beautiful.
Can’t recommend this experience enough!
Shortly after arriving in Hoi An, we spontaneously booked the cooking class for the afternoon because it was pouring rain. Longtran picked us up as agreed and we were surprised to find that only my brother and I had booked the tour. He took us to the market, showed us different types of fruit and vegetables we didn't know about and allowed us to try some. He then took us to his restaurant, gave us time for a drink, and ate some mango. After that, we did the Coconut Boat Tour with another really nice guy who showed us how to catch fish. For this, he took us to a more remote area away from the crowds. After returning to the restaurant we started cooking with his sister-in-law who gave us helpful advice. Everything we ate was super delicious and Longtran even invited us for a few beers. After dinner, he got us home on time and gave us an envelope with the recipes! He and the woman we cooked with were super friendly and patiently answered all of our questions! So far the best tour we have booked in Vietnam and we both highly recommend it!
The class was very nice, the market tour was good (we took the morning class so it was not too busy yet), the boat tour and basket voot tour was fun and fhere was a massage when we arrived. The cooking itself was awesome as well, the teacher was very good to follow and the dishes were local and very good, not too easy not too difficult. Vegetarian was possible. If you are looking for a complete morning with nice food on a very nice location, this is the place!
I can definitely recommend the tour after a short visit of the local market where Mai show us all the different foods we went back to her restaurant. Her mother an her aunt took us on a really nice basket boat tour through the palm forest. We really like it because the two women are real fun and we had a great time. The cooking class itself was nice aswell we learned a lot an cooked most of the food our self with the helping hands of Mai. She is a very nice, polite and fun person to hang around with. It is definitely recommendable to do the cooking class
It was great! We had a lot of fun with Loc, she explained everything very well and even gave alternative ingredients if we were ever to recreate the dishes.
Before we started cooking, we were shown how they used to make rice, which was very interesting. Loc told us a lot of interesting stories about Hoi An, and the different traditions they have. Highly recommend this cooking class, I do not think it can get any better than this :)
I had a pleasure to cook with a lovely and caring chef, we prepared a special vegetarian meal as I asked and in the market they bought extra food that they prepared just for me. It was such a lovely experience!
Long and his family were amazing hosts. I booked the afternoon tour and managed to get a private tour as most people book the morning as the village market is more lively then and has fresher ingredients. I then went out on a bamboo boat that was a lot of fun. Crab fishing, dancing and fishing with a net (no fish 🤣). It lasted about 45mins. Then we go and cook our dinner. Everything was yummy and I had the best chef to show me how to make the different dishes. They even made me some oysters, shrimp and quail eggs for me 10000% recommend.
We had a fantastic time with Luna our chef and guide. Starting off at the herb farms just outside the town. We then explored the markets and bought the produce to cook 4 Vietnamese dishes. We went by traditional boat to the cookery school located in beautiful grounds. We helped Luna pepare the dishes. There was so much food for lunch absolutely delicious. We then went back to the town by taxi. I thoroughly recommend this experience
Mo is a lovely person and very professional. She took us to the market to buy fresh products for the class and meal. She explained way beyond our purchases as to food products that are not familiar to us and how to recognize freshness. She also told us much about life in Vietnam.
We went by boat to her home on the island.
Her hospitality was exceptional and so was the class! We enjoyed preparing and eating the different dishes and sauces which we prepared as well. Every dish had special flavors and the grilled fish was the best we'd eaten in our lives!!!! We requested a gluten free menu and Mo was knowledgable and we never felt any difficulty with the limitations. The meal and drinks were in such generous amounts! I definitely recommend the class with Mo and can't wait to come back!
This cooking adventure is a wonderful way to spend half a day in Hoi An. We started by meeting Mo and touring the food market. Mo talked us through all the ingredients we would be cooking with, pausing to pay the market vendors or allow us to smell and taste the fresh herbs and fruits. It was so interesting to see all the stalls and learn about Vietnamese culture and was a great start. We then took a boat over to Mo's house on a very serene island - it was very relaxing. I would recommend bringing water for the journey/market tour. We then were given an ice cold glass of fresh 0juice which was delicious and it was topped up throughout the day. We then spend time preparing the different courses, we rolled our own spring rolls, watched Mo cook fresh fish and made our own pancakes. The food was authentic, fresh and the whole experience was really memorable. The house was clean and spacious and provided a cool area for us to prepare the food and eat. We each had our own stove and Mo's family cleaned up around us so it was a relaxing experience with very tasty food. Mo was an extremely welcoming host, a brilliant chef and a genuinely lovely person. We felt honoured to have spent the day at her home and it was the highlight of our time in Vietnam. When we finished the course we took the boat back into Hoi An with full stomachs and a smile on our faces. Thank you, Mo, for an amazing experience and good luck for the future!
"The best experience we've had in Vietnam so far!"
Mo is an incredible host, she is very knowledgeable about the local markets and foods. We had so much fun learning how to cook local dishes, they were delicious and I can't wait to try making them when I get home.
Excellent food tour with local guides, Linh and Ba Tran. Lots of excellent local street food. Not only great guides but super accommodating as we mixed up our dates and were one day late for tour, which they arranged to run anyway. Thanks Cookly and Ba Tran for making it work. Highly recommended.
We signed up for the Market Tour with the boat ride to the cooking class. The activities were well-thought out and the small group (6 adults) made for a relaxed environment. The market tour was informative and it was a great way to learn about not-so-obvious uses for familiar items, and sample/ask questions about foods we'd seen prior to our visit to Hoi An but didn't know the names of. The class itself was hands-on and we cooked 4 different dishes, but we also enjoyed some quick breaks to wander on the back roads of the small village, and our lovely host shared details about growing up in the area and day to day life. After running around so much on our short vacation and feeling rushed on other tours we'd been on, this was a welcome change - and we have already made some of the dishes at home! Definitely recommend!
We got picked up on time from our hostel by Mo's husband and were dropped off at the market to meet Mo and two other couples. Mo gave everybody a basket and then our market tour began. In the beginning I thought it'd be just a stroll that's it but it turned out to be the best market visit I've ever had. We stopped at so many little stands and Mo told us about the various fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, spices, herbs, etc. Once all our baskets were full, we all got on a boat and went to Mo's house which is lovely tranquil place. The cooking class was outstanding. Hopefully the dishes turn out just as good when I make them myself:)
We did the afternoon class and had the pleasure of it being private for my partner and I. I guess usually the morning classes are packed.
We went to the market to learn about some traditional ingredients. In the afternoons the markets are less busy but we were ok with that. Our tour guide got us passion fruit and some clams to try out different cooking techniques.
Then we went to the restaurant and had tea and a special passion fruit juice our guide Longtran made us.
After we took a fun bamboo boat ride on the water which was amazing. There was karaoke and bamboo boat tricks as well as some minor fishing and we even caught two baby crabs we later let back.
Dinner was amazing. Please come with an empty stomach. We made Spring Rolls, Banh Xeo, Seafood noodles and Banana Flower Salad. Longtran also made different types of clams for us!
Most memorable cooking class experience in our travels! Also the beer is super cheap and perfect with the meal.
We really enjoyed our cooking class with Mo. Mo answered all of our questions as we made our way through the market - she was also very good at explaining how the market operates and the difference in prices. The cooking class was very hands on and you were put out of your comfort zone when making the dishes - but Mo was always there to guide or steer you in the right direction if you were not getting it! Lovely to be outside of Hoi An too in Mo’s family home, it really was an authentic cooking experience. I would highly recommend this class!
The cooking class was amazing. The teacher great, the food delicious, the place beautiful. The bamboo basket was so much fun!!!!! ♥ Also they respect any allergies o food intolerance you may have. Highly recommend the experience!!
We first spent around 45 minutes in the market learning about the different produce, herbs and spices. After a 15 minute bike ride we arrived at the class, greeted by our Master Chef, who guided us through 5 dishes. It was one of the best, if not the best meals we had in Hoi An (and we were in Hoi An for 3 weeks and had many great meals). Then surprisingly, we were given foot massages after speaking our feet in an herb bath. Unreal. We learned so much and had so much fun, we'd do it again.
"Great Experience - I would strongly recommend!!!"
We did the cooking class in a group of four and really enjoyed the whole experience. The response time was quick and the pick up in time. Before the class we enjoyed a short boat ride to the island where the actual class takes place. This was really relaxing and we directly felt welcome and eager to start cooking! Oanh the women, who was teaching us how to cook was speaking a very good English and was soooo nice. We really liked her and her cute way of giving us orders in a very kind manor :) she couldn't done better! Thanks a lot Oanh. The whole experience was great and the food really delicious, so I would definetly recommend this class to everybody!
