Step into Grandma Junko’s kitchen — a warm, welcoming space filled with love, tradition, and over 50 years of cooking experience. In this hands-on cooking class, you will learn to make some of Nagoya’s most beloved local dishes, all in one session!Such as Tebasaki (chicken wings), Tenmusu (rice balls with shrimp tempura), Kishimen noodles.
You will also learn the foundation of Japanese cuisine: how to make dashi, a traditional soup stock made from bonito flakes and kombu seaweed — essential to the umami taste of many Japanese dishes.
After cooking and enjoying your homemade Nagoya meal, you'll experience a mini Japanese tea ceremony (seated at a table and chairs, in the Ryurei style). You will learn how to whisk your own matcha green tea and enjoy it with a seasonal Japanese sweet.
This experience is perfect for those who want to connect with Japanese home culture, taste authentic local flavors, and enjoy warm hospitality from a Japanese grandma.
We will prepare three popular Nagoya-meshi dishes—local specialties beloved by the people of Nagoya—along with two classic Japanese side dishes:
Tebasaki – Crispy and flavorful Nagoya-style chicken wings
Tenmusu – Bite-sized rice balls with shrimp tempura
Kishimen – Flat udon noodles served in a light, savory broth
Japanese Rolled Omelet – Light and slightly sweet
